I have flown United quite a few times for work and the planes seem to be very hit and miss. Some are great and some are very old. On short flights, it usually isn't a big deal, but I hate paying high prices and not getting a TV.

Typical United ORD-SFO flight on 777. Very narrow seats, as comfortable as city bus ride. At least it was on time. 1K United customer, but almost impossible to get upgraded on this route. Exit row helps, as usual, but it is not something most of the people, including me, look forward to.... spending 4.5 hours on the plane under these conditions.

UA818 emergency landing in Santiago Chili! Where are the star ratings? First let me say, Thank you to the pilot for landing the plane in Santiago after a violent thunderstorm and lightning strikes and a circuit board that caught fire. Thank you to the crew for trying to keep all of us from puking and passing out. NOW here is where United HAS A BIG PROBLEM! United has hands down the WORST phone support ever! After landing there was not a number to call in a foriegn country with a representative that was nice. The first man hung up on me, said he wasn't going to talk to me because I was upset. No kidding I was upset, I just had a terrifying flight. The 1800 number is not a free call on top of that, 2 bucks per minute international rates. The second time I call, the automated machine sends me on minutes of a run around only to get half the time a person that really does not understand English. OMG! Too make matters worse United will NOT provide a corp number to file a complaint. You hear the same thing from the phone people over over like little robots. "We are sorry for the inconvenience:" It is not an "inconvenience" It was a life threatening event. Too make matters worse yet again, my next flight UA846 had a person on the plane have a medical emergency! This person needed to be taken to a hospital. They did not land the plane in Lima. They made that poor person fly the entire 9 hour flight before getting medical attention! Horrified I am. Again I get the same no-answers from United. File an online complaint and sorry for the inconvenience. No we do not have a corporate number you can call. OMG. If I needed medical care , I can not believe they would make me stay on a plane for a 9 hour flight and not land for medical care. Not inconvenience, but huge issues here!

I didn't mind the flight price or what happened while I was on the flight but I had to pay for all the bags I had. They don't give you any checked bags. I wasn't a fan of that. The flight was also an hour late but the weather wasn't great and it was November in NJ so it happens, there was nothing we could do about mother nature.

I love flying on United. They are always my first choice and their affiliation with Star Alliance is perfect for our many trips to Europe. I've had a delay or two but that is the rarity and not the norm. I've never lost luggage or had rude behavior. The United team has always been professional and addressed my questions and concerns prompty.

We have flown United many times, and have never had a complaint till we flew from Los Angeles in winter to Denver and no one told us we be outside in blowing cold wind and snow to get to the next plain, seems it was really tough seeing elderly people doing this it effected me by catching a cold so United maybe if there is an outside plane you have to get thru let us know, otherwise thank you for safe travels on time, mostly the crew was very nice except should they wear gloves when serving drinks and food , just saying, and maybe see why flying over ocean didn't have no tv or movies there free only sometimes! other then that your doing ok but hope you read comments and take into consideration of others

DEN to STL was roundtrip on a regional carrier. First leg was on time, leisurely boarding, and well attended. Return trip was weather delayed after we boarded. Access to the terminal was provided and a few people who could not make their DEN connections got off. Return flight was uneventful, as we like.

Great airline have always treated me very fair. Flights have been on time, flight attendants have mostly been good some have an attitude that is why I gave a 9 not a 10. I have flown other airlines and been disappointed in their service.

I would like to mention my ordeal at Narita International Airport on the 11th of December last year. Although I booked the ticket thru United I had just 45 minutes time between my Thai flight from Bangkok and my United flight from Tokyo to Washington D.C. I rushed to catch the flight but plane had already started moving at around 4.25 p.m. although it was scheduled to leave at 4.35 p.m. I had to take another flight via Chicago to my destination and was delayed by 4 hours. I would suggest that United should keep more time between flights and a flight should not leave before time.

The Good: Economy plus seating in coach is nice and uncommon among other carriers. They also fly to many locations which adds value to the MP FF program. Great pilots. The Bad: CRJ 50 flights used for routes that should have bigger planes, very cramped, no first class. The CRJ70 is only marginally better. Food served (either domestic or international) in coach is abysmal. The latest revision to their FF program devalued the earning power of FF miles for international flyers by over 60%. US based flight attendants are generally elderly (with obvious seniority), surley at times, rude at other times, and generally treat passengers with little respect and are slow to respond to requests if they do so at all. They often spend much of their time chatting in the rear or front of the aircraft and it seems of late that on the plane is the last place they want to be. They should all fly Singapore Air sometime to get a sense of what level of service could really help to differentiate their airline from other US carriers.

Flying from Madrid to London using Germanwings as a airline partner, we were notified that we were not in the system and there was not a reservation under our name. The Germanwings employee advised us that this issue is very common from United Airlines that after you purchase a ticket with them; the airline fails to send the purchase order to Germanwings. This doesn't give any other choice in the system but to cancel the reservation. We almost were stranded in Spain without a ticket. I had to do a roaming phone call from my US phone to solve the issue with the airline. The phone call cost me $50 to solve a problem that is United Airlines problem. Is ridiculous that partners airlines are aware of a problem from United and none do anything.

As a larger woman, I find the seats reasonably generous. On 2 occasions, I've had very large people seated next to me. They've both appeared to be very regular flyers (as the FAs called them by name and chatted)and neither could fit into their seats. On both occasions the FA has had the arm rest lifted so they could slop over into my seat. This made me VERY angry but nothing was done about it. On one occasion they offered me a $50 credit on my next flight. Big whoop.

Things went well. I took my scooter and they picked it up at the door to the plane. Again - things went very well - we travel with a dog and cat and that was also no problem. The flight was not full so we has plenty of room - plus we bought the United Coach Plus -- really worth it on long hauls. The food was typickally awful airline food. I almost would prefer none to the crap they give up. Otherwise all went well

I am a member of their frequent flyer club so I am partial to Continental not United. Personally I would have given Continental a 10 and United a 3 or 4 (from the nightmare stories I have heard) but because of the merger I bump United up or better yet Continental down. You can easily tell which flight attendants are from the United or Continental. Continental's are more friendly and United's fly as if they have a chip on their shoulder. Depart/Arrival times are always at least 10-15 minutes late. In conclusion if you ask why I did not average the numbers and give United a 6 or 7, it is because more of the negatives of United carried over than the positives from Continental.

my issue being on time. United is about 60-70% on my account on time - once it took 32 hours to get from Fresno to Newark, NJ. As far as customer service, didnt have a problem. Continental had so much better flight experience and once united merged, all went to crap. Someone said they are equal to other airlines. Equally bad. Compared to European or Far Easter airlines, American airlines really lack. And since when in the US was equal good enough?

I'm a life time gold member but have not flown UA Internationally in the last few years as I've not been able to upgrade with miles or find the business class fares not competitive. I last flew UA from LAX to Singapore, and the same amount of miles were removed from my account and was wait listed from Tokyo to Singapore and having flown LAX to Tokyo in business the 7 hour flight in economy plus was not comfortable. Suggest that UA go to economy plus seats like Air France etc. for international flights. UA's business does not compare to JAL,KLM, Air France etc on service and cuisine. I used to be only a UA traveler, but after the merger I found it next to impossible to use miles to up grade even 6 months away, and the price for business non competitive. Even domestic flights in economy plus except for the legroom are still cramped and tight.

I am a 1K and get upgraded frequently. Service for me has been generally courteous and the food decent in the forward cabin. In the economy cabin I generally can get exit row seats. I bring my own food and eat at the lounges. UA treats its very frequent flyers well. I suspect the regular travelers who may have to sit in cramped seats and pay for luggage do not share my experience.

The flight attendants were professional and helpful. A very long flight, but made easier by United personnel. I fly United about half the time, and have never been treated rudely, or with distain. I have flown United for over 30 years. I have noticed a HUGE change in the airline since the merger with Continental. Jeff Smisek is ruining the airline. United used to be a very customer friendly airline, but now you are hard pressed to find it. I recently flew first class to Alaska and was singled out by the gate agent for my bag(which is the standard carry on) and essentially humiliated by the gate agent. I had to spend the 6 hour flight without my medicine because instead of letting me get my medication out, she simply took my bag and gate checked it. I have been an elite member for 20 of those 30 years and have NEVER been treated as badly as I was on that flight on any other airline that I have flown without status!!! The whole airline needs a customer service class and Jeff Smisek needs to gooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I complained but still have not received a response. I choose to fly United when Delta is more convenient.

I went from lax to Quito ecuador. My luggage was 2 days late and damaged. It was like it was underwater. I had everything I needed for a project there. I filled a claim. It was what I thought to be very fair. Laptop etc. I had to change my plans. I was told I would get a check on a date so I could replace my equipment. Ecuador taxes all electronics double so I would lose money. I talked to the head man and he said on this day the check would be mailed. Well a few calls well after the date the head man quit returning my calls. The check came in 3 weeks later. Way to late for projects. My friends moved on without me as needed. I had to pay for a hotel for a very long time and the flight was for nothing. I ask for more money and they said NO. After complaining they gave me a $200 voucher I lost over $4,000 plus my project.

I was not able to use my ticket to fly due to the Coronavirus. I was not able to be refunded but instead was given a ticket credit, alright fair. I just had to go online, quickly cancel and then was given a voucher for 12 months. Easy, simple, and did not involve having to make call after call to cancel my ticket. I will look into using United more in the future.

While I enjoy flying United, i wish they would do a better job when scheduling layovers. Too many times i had 30 minutes or less to make my connecting flight with the gate on the other side of the airport. I have found myself all too often running through airports desperately trying to make my next flight. Would give them 5 stars if not for this point.

We have had wonderful experience with United Airlines, particularly when we have traveled overseas. Their quality of service is wonderful, and they take care to manage the minor details well. We have been impressed with the special attention and care they give to our children when they fly with us. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and we have rarely experienced delays. If their price point was slightly lower, my review would be 5-star.

Overall pretty good experiences so far with United Airlines. I've flown several times with them and no real complaints. Happy flight attendants and good snacks in flight. I guess the only downfall that I have seen would be that the airplanes are a bit on the small side so a little crowded but nothing that would stop me from flying with them. Overall good in my book.

We recently flew on United to the Hawaiian islands. The pros: great price, comfortable flights for the most part and friendly service from both gate agents & flight attendants. The cons: no in flight entertainment unless you downloaded AND signed into their app before your flight. If you weren’t aware of that or you had an older tablet that didn’t support the app (both were the case with us) you just went without. The plane we flew on from California to Hawaii was six seats across (3 and 3) and the seats were so uncomfortably close to each other, it felt extremely claustrophobic & miserable being a 5 hour flight. Our other flights were either on smaller planes or a larger one, and each of those was a comfortable experience. We would fly with them again because of their prices.

United Airlines is the first airline I have ever used to travel via air, and sadly it was the last time I have used this company. I had a horrific experience. I was flying from Kentucky to Laredo Texas. There were two exchanging flights. When I got to Dallas, the flight had been overbooked and they were asking for volunteers to wait till tomorrow to fly to Laredo. Enough people volunteered and we ended up getting in the air. Then when we got to Laredo airport, we had to circle around and go back to dallas because the Laredo airport had lost power. When we arrived to Dallas, the airport was closed for the night. We were essentially locked in. They did give us a $10 voucher to buy food from one of the establishments, BUT, everything was closed because the airport was closed. We all had to wait over 12 hours in the airport, overnight to fly to Laredo. Then to top it all off, on my return trip home, my departing flight was literally taking off as our flight was landing and I missed my flight. I had to yet again stay overnight alone in a strange place, but at least the airport paid for an actual hotel that time. On the other hand, I was alone and had no idea where I was, I had a voucher for a taxi to take me to a hotel, but I couldn't find one, so I was stuck at the airport for 5 hours before finding a taxi to take me to the hotel. When I arrived at the hotel is was so late that all delivery resturants in the area were closed. I had not ate for a long time and was hypoglycemic. That was enough to scare me from flying for several years.
