U-Haul Moving Services was co founded in 1945 by L.S. Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen. After World War ll this couple recognized the need for do-it-yourself moving equipment that would be available on a one-way, nationwide basis. The hustle of driving a rented truck to its original location is eliminated by offering a specific drop-off location in the state where you have moved to.

Low Prices on In-Town Moves

U-Haul offers low prices on the moving trucks if you need to use them in the town where you live. Prices start as low as $19.95 with $0.69 per mile, but total cost is based on the size of the truck and how many miles you will be driving. Also, you have the option to pick extended days and miles rates if you need the truck for certain amount of days.

High Prices on Between-State Moves

Even though the prices on the U-Haul trucks are cheap for in-town movers, they are much higher if you need to move to a different state. Depending on where you are moving, the prices can range from $170 to $1,200 on a small truck, and up to $1,900 on the larger trucks.

Restrictions on Ford Explorer

If you decide to use U-Haul as your moving partner, you're required to enter the make, model, and year of the vehicle you'll be using if you'll be towing a trailer. If you say that you'll be towing with a Ford Explorer, you may receive a statement that restricts you from using any of the U-Haul equipment because of the excessive costs in defending lawsuits involving Ford Explorer towing combinations.

The Bottom Line

U-Haul is a do-it yourself moving service that provides moving vehicles, as well as moving equipment, storage facilities and moving help. To make the process even easier you have the option to drop off the moving trucks in the location where you have moved to, even though you might have picked up that same truck somewhere else. If you are using moving trucks in the same town you live in the prices are affordable and customizable based on the days you need it for; however, if you need to moving trucks to move from one state to another the prices might go up to $1,900. Also, if you own Ford Explorer, you can not use their moving equipment because of the excessive costs in defending lawsuits involving Ford Explorer towing combinations.

I've moved several times with U-Haul. The fees are straightforward and the people are usually pretty helpful. I have never run into the issue of reserving a trailer/truck and having it not be there. The only issues I have run into were my own fault - getting too small of a trailer to try to save a few bucks and not being able to fit everything. The online reservation system works great.

I love doing business with UHaul. Their network of rental dealers is convenient, trucks have always been ready when promised and the price is fair for access to this range of equipment. I've used vans and large trucks. I like how UHaul has designed their trucks specifically for how they are used rather than purchasing off-shelf trucks with no forethought or modification. The ramps and "Mom's Attic" are useful features which make the difficult job of moving and item transport much easier. I find the UHaul offices / dealers to be knowledgeable, helpful and up front about availability, pricing and policy.

I used U-Haul when I moved from Washington to Southern California. Specifically, I used three U-Box self-pack pods. Overall, the experience was good, convenient, and cost efficient for me. I didn’t have a lot of stuff to move, and it wasn’t worth paying a moving service. This was less expensive than me renting the truck and doing it all myself and having to drive it myself, and pay for gas. And move a cat. Two things to remember, though: first off, make your reservation WELL in advance, and try to move when everyone else isn’t moving. That goes without saying. This definitely impacts your cost. Secondly, pack that U-box carefully. When they say, “some items may shift during moving“, they are not kidding. I knew things would move around *some*, but I didn’t expect the boxes would be tilted back at as large an angle as they obviously were. Some of my stuff was ruinted. It was annoying, but it wasn’t enough to file an insurance claim for it, and it would not have been worth it to pay for their insurance. Overall, I think U-Haul trucks are also good, and I have used them before to self move, too. I liked the U-box product offering also, but it takes a little bit of planning and strategizing to make it work best for you.

I love u-haul. They always seem to have a location near me, and renting from them is always a fairly quick process. Their storage units are high quality and they offer A/C in some of those units! I’ve rented both storage units and other products with no problems, and will use them in the future.

I move A LOT and I've always sought out U-Haul first because they have the best rates, great employees who have always been helpful (no matter which location I've visited) and had trucks when I've needed them. No need for further explanation because I've never encountered a problem that needed fixing - I've always been in and out.

Used a uhaul from Washington State to new Mexico. It was a 10 ft truck, easy to drive very smooth. I think they had speed control on though. Couldn't go faster than 70 even though some freeways in states are faster which really sucked. It wasn't our first choice of renting due to its higher pricing than others but it's automatic and has many outlets where I could return.

Always there when you need them. I can't tell you how many times I've moved over the years. I finally wised up and stopped calling "friends with trucks". The clean smoke free trucks are all automatic transmission with huge mirrors, A/C, and radio. I love the option to use "in-town" or leave the U-Haul in another State. Their customer service is great and the truck are so user friendly. And you can get packing materials to boot. One stop for all moving needs!

We have used U-Haul for quick hauling jobs (we rented a pickup truck) as well as moving to new homes and moving across country. All the times have been positive experiences. The staff at each location where we rented vehicles or trailers were very friendly and helpful. The vehicles and trailer were all clean and seem to have been well maintained. The price we paid was fairly reasonable.

U-Haul is one of the older and more experienced moving equipment rental guys. They have every size vehicle or trailer you can want they have good pricing and they know what they're talking about as far as packaging and stacking in a truck so take their advice. I've used them several times some stuff not even for moving necessarily it's all in a big load of something somewhere, are using a car dolly or the car trailer. It's another place to think of if you're trying to tow a car most people don't. They got great roadside service if anything should happen to you on the road in one of their vehicles or pulling on their trailers. I definitely recommend U-Haul over the other guys

I rented a U-Haul van to take some furniture to my family in NC. The experience with U-Haul was ultra-pleasant from beginning to end. They were ready for me when I got there. The vehicle was so comfortable, very clean. Check back in was literally moments - there was someone in front of me, so I was prepared to wait, but immediately they came from inside, checked a couple of things and BAM! I was done.

I have moved more times than I care to count, and although I haven't always used U-Haul for each move, I have used them at least eight times. I literally put my life and all my possessions in their hands when I drive one of their vehicles loaded with what I am moving, whether it be across town or across the country! Never has one of their vehicles broken down and left me stranded, something for which I am so very grateful! If I have to move again (I hope NOT!!), I wouldn't hesitate to call on their services again.

I think U-Haul is a great company. There are 2 things I really like about it. 1) After you finish using its vehicles, you can drop them off at any of their locations. It does not have to be at the one where you picked it up. 2) They offer you insurance, and it's cheap. Once you take it, you're covered. If anything happens to the vehicle, it's on them, not on you.

Cost vs equipment quality is amazing. You can go in, rent it on sight or online any size to fit your budget and needs. From a tiny trailer to a full sized semi truck they got you covered. With other services there is always lost, damaged or stolen items, to them is stuff. With U-Haul it’s all you, so it’s how you want, when you want and level of care that only you will give you precious keepsakes, to you it’s precious memories and emotional history!

I have used U-Haul multiple times to move from home to home and also have used their car transport trailers as well and I give them a 5 out of 5 stars on everything as long as you do your part they keep their word. Bring their property back how you got it clean and the gas back where it was and you won't be charged any extra. I made sure to keep my contract with them as they did with me.

I have used U-Haul many times. They only have one issue that I can see, I tried to rent a car trailer and went through way too much trouble trying to figure out their system as to what kind of car I could haul. In the end it didn't make any difference because I hauled the car I wanted even when they said it was impossible. Other than that, I have never had any trouble with the trucks or package materials.

Literally never had a bad experience with 3 different uhal locations. They provide you with a vehicle so fast. They're actually extremely affordable. The customer service is pretty good as well. If you follow the rules with their vehical (ie: filling the gas to the requested amount prior to returning the vehicle, ect..) you wont be charged with any extra fees. Drive safe, be smart, and fill the gas a little bit higher than what you started with! I highly recommend uhal if you need a moving vehicle

I like U-Haul. I have used them many times. both locally and cross country.. Rates were fair and they have good support. Once I had a truck break down on the freeway while going across the country. Within a hour they had another truck to me and help to unload truck and load new truck to get me back on the road. I would highly recommend them for moving

We have always had such wonderful experiences with uhaul. I would say I've used them for 10 moves and have had nothing but positive things to say. 15 years ago they installed the hitch I needed on a car at the time so I could pull a trailer. Over the years they also taught me how to attach and detach trailers on my own and how to maneuver driving my car with it attached. They've always been in decent shape and the price is always great.

Uhaul is always available. When I purchased my home I rented a full size truck to move my belongings. On short notice, we needed a van to move a washer and dryer set. We had no problem making a same day reservation and getting what we needed. The rates are affordable and the drop off was easy. We were able to return both vehicles to the same location without a problem.

U-Haul is the leader in rental trucks by a LOT. It is so quick and easy to find a nearby truck, reserve it, and rent it from one of their franchises. The sign out and insurance process is straightforward, and it makes returning the truck (after the tough move) a breeze. U-Haul is like another reliable utility for people moving, and it is so appreciated.

This company is awesome for when you are moving. They offer a wide arrange of different sizes of trucks so you can get the perfect size that you need when moving or when you need to make a big haul. Plus these guys actually offer installing tow hitches on your truck if you don't have one yet. So that is awesome, they do charge a little more than some places, but they have all of the pieces usually in-stock and are not booked out very far in advance; at most 2-3 weeks out.

The U-Haul Store had a complete selection of boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, labels, pad locks, dollies, moving blankets wardrobe boxes basically, everything we needed to make our moves as easy as possible. That is why we will use U-Haul again when our children have there first homes.

I have used U-Haul multiple times while moving large amounts of stuff and it would not of been efficient or successful without U-Haul. They offer quality and sturdy moving vehicles (with other moving essential such as: boxes and furniture pads). I always make sure to contact U-Haul, before I need to move large quantities of stuff.

The prices are great with a flat rate and your expense depends on how much you travel. Not too bad, I would recommend.

Ive always had a good experience with UHaul. Lots of truck sizes to choose from. Pretty cheap rates. And lots of locations to rent from. My one annoyance with UHaul though is having to pay for the dolly. They purposely put it in the truck and lock it up in front of you, tempting you to break the seal. Hahaha kinda shady, but no big deal as long as you know to expect it.

I’ve used U-Haul and few times during our moves and it has made the moving process so much easier. I’ve done several moves with just our own personal trucks and trucks from friends and it was a lot of trips and a lot of work. I loved using U-Haul because everything was enclosed, so you had that piece of mind knowing your would losing anything along the way and we did the move is just a few trips. It was so work the money and made the moving process so much faster. We will use them again if we ever have to move again.

When moving from West Valley City to Herriman, we were able to load up a big U-Haul one time and get the job done quickly. Both the cab and the back of the truck that we rented were clean. The associate that helped us get it all lined up was courteous and nice, he even made us laugh a few times. We were able to get all the boxes and tape we needed for the move from U-Haul as well. I've had to move several times within the city I'm in. When I do, I'm always debating over paying for movers or doing it myself and when doing so, then ask how I'm gonna do it? Thankfully U-Haul has made this extremely easy as not only they've provided the trucks I need, but at decent prices. In addition to this, dealing with the people at the locations have been a breeze. I can't say I've tried others, but I don't see a reason why I would. Thanks U-Haul!

I have used U-Haul all most every time I have moved in my life and on the most part it has been good but this last time was horrible. My husband and I decided since we always had a good experience with trunk rental that we would use them for a storage unit, the setting it up on line went great, online said insurance was optional so we decide against it because we only need for a month or 2 then we got to uhaul they raised the price from online and demanded we pay for insurance though them even thro our renters insurance covered it. I called corporate they said that they would look into it but never got back to by phone or email. They also said that you do have to have insurance but their website didn't say that. I told them that was false advertising and they need to change their website. I have not been back to their sit to see if they changed it and I plan on never using them again for anything.

Over the years U-Haul has remained by go to company for anything having to do with renting moving trucks or trailers. I have tried other lower cost companies, but after some not so good experiences, have always come back to U-Haul. They offer good products at reasonable prices, and really make it easy to rent and return equipment.

I only used Uhaul three times. I didn't have any problems driving them. I really like that they have locations all over the world so where ever you move to you just drop the uhaul there and the company takes over. I never had to drive it back to where I picked it up at, (which I really like that ). Great expeirence each time i driven one.

I have use the their big moving trucks and I love that they give you a dolly, blankets, etc. But, the daily use rentals of their pickup trucks are so nice too. Super cheap for you to get a truck to do your household chores!

I helped my aunt move in and we used a U-Haul rental truck! I was a little nervous that we would have to go very slow and be careful of turns, but the truck was stable and reliable. Once we started driving my nervousness went away and we moved in successfully!

Uhaul is always been a good company, my family and I have used them most my live… that being said, fall of 2018 I fill out their online questionnaire to rent a truck. So their Account Questionnaire thing is hacked , because Then an hour later I got a message from a different moving company.. Movingforward LLC , John J C , that had all my moving information and would move me for half the price because they were already going to take a load there. Had me pay him to an account in another country., I think the Canines Islands Well after they got my stuff in truck , they tripled the price., I said I couldn’t pay it so he stole my stuff, just drove off with it. I wasn’t the only person he has done this to… I wrote an email to uhaul and never heard back.

Easy appointments through website. Very trustworthy company. You book a U-Haul and you go and get it with location check-in. I didn't even have to see an employee to rent the U-Haul the past couple of times. Cheap and great value for money! I love this company!

Found one in Franklin but they were closing in 30 mins. The woman took our Information as we drove there. She was awesome to wait.
