I love united healthcare, I am insured through them and recently had a baby which was a great experience with them. They were easy to contact, answered my questions clearly, and got me the best coverage at the best hospital.

Although heath care prices have risen a lot the last few years, we like the quality of service we get from United Healthcare. Whenever we need a specialist they have many to chose from.

I have been a part of UnitedHealthcare for a long time. They are good to work with and have always been easy to work with. I wish I didn't have to pay so much out of pocket though for every service and it is a little complicated.

I have had their Medicare advantage plan for 6 years and never a problem till my Cardiologist said I need to have a loop recorder for my afib, they have never approved it both times it was to be implanted had to be cancelled. If I call since all the customer service is out of the Philippines when they can’t answer your question they hang up and never call back. I’m 74 and don’t have the energy to fight them. Don’t make this mistake.

This is probably the worst company we’ve ever dealt with for insurance. They have awful coverage and we pay an extremely high bill monthly for coverage and end up with $1000s still from just one doctors visit. They will not assist in paying any other fees even when you go somewhere in network and check to make sure everything you are getting done is in network. We will never use them again. Definitely not refer anyone to United healthcare. Customer service is AWFUL. Coverage is not worth the amount you are paying.

OTC Healthy Benefits is a scam. We get $175/mo to buy supplements and healthy food. $ expires end of month, refills on the 1st. We were cheated out of Jan-Feb $ cuz 1st, no stores would take it. Finally HyVee said Yes, but card didn't work after shopping for an hour in a covid polluted place. CS wait times are >1 hr to talk to incompetent people. As of today, the card isn't in the system anymore. I gotta waste a few hours to get this sorted out only to have it not work again next week. This SUCKS!!!

Impossible to get correct information out them. As a member, I call in to get information on hearing, vision, changing primary care physician, etc., and very time it is an ordeal. Time after time I am given incorrect information, even from a supervisor!!! I have wasted hours because their employees that I deal with are incompetent. One supervisor even told that they have thousands of employees, and they don't always know what they are doing. Just gross incompetence. I am sick of dealing with them

They are one of the worst Insurances to get Prior Auth. They give run a round or state the member doesnt exist or put you on hold for 45 mins and if you say you will take survey with bad review they disconnect you and get a dial tone. Some act like they dont understand English and when you ask for a manager they then ask why and demand a reason and you tell them you want to speak to manager again they disconnect you. If its oncology prior auth then forget it.

for the past 3 years this company will not stop calling me because they have my phone number confused with one of their clients. have asked dozens of times in multiple ways for them to change their records, but they continue to call me at least several times a week. at one point, one of their representatives recommended that i just dont answer the calls!!! I am contemplating having my phone number changed because of this issue. Thankfully, i am not insured by this woefully inept company and good luck to all who are.

Be Forewarned on pre-approvals for surgical procedures. They go back on their approvals. They will give approval for a major surgery. But then not pay the anesthesiologist. United Healthcare then claims the anesthesiologist was not pre-approved. How do you approve a surgery without approving the anesthesiologist? Try cutting off the end of a femur without anesthesia.

I cannot believe that with all of the negative reviews I was still taken in by United. I went to the doctor they recommended for my free wellness check-up. While there, the doctor recommended a couple of shots without discussing the cost. But I had insurance, why should I worry. Four weeks later, I get a bill for $443 which United will not pay. I know we are always warned to watch out for these manipulators. But we should not have to when dealing with our health. No... the shots did not make me healthy. I was sick for a week.

DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE CARRIER if you plan on doing anything more than regular Dr visits. Anything past routine Dr visits will not be honored/covered, despite what they say. I have a Dr saying I need a surgery for my health and the chat rep said it was covered but when it came to the Dr to verify coverage they have declined it twice. What am I paying for?!?!?

Horrible experience. They told me (in writing) a doctor was in network, I went and it turned out they gave me false information. They said I could apply for a review and gave a reference # making it sound like they would fix it, I have appealed it 3 times formally and sent several emails, get a different person every time. They are HORRIBLE!! They will not even fix their own mistakes. Our family will be taking whatever other options are available next year and letting HR know our experience.

This is the worst health insurance company. Don't expect them to pay much. If you switch your employees to UHC you are effectively giving them a demotion. If your company switches to UHC it's time to look for a different employer. Notice a lot of the high ratings for this company are in Utah so they are probably UHC employees trying to jack up their ratings.

Denied coverage for residential mental health / substance use disorder in an in network facility. The professionals at the facility were recommending 6 weeks of treatment (the original intent was 4 week). Retroactively United Behavioral Health denied coverage after only 12 days. We were not notified of this denial until several days after the 12 days.

It was awful at the time I took out my policy I was 60 years old the agent sold me a supplemental policy little did I know the policy is designed for a person age 65 and up. I also bought a vision and dental policy with the agent. I was under the assumption that it was a major medical policy the agent knowingly sold me the wrong policy. I would never recommend to anyone who needs health insurance. Danielle Bass

I had a well woman appointment in November, and in January my husband's company switched providers. So, they didn't pay it. Period. End of discussion. The corporation made a decision, so I was left on the hook for $190. I appealed three times and finally HR Corporate got involved. They still refused. I think it's horrible that a large corporation would be so petty, and refuse to honor the terms of the contract. I'm sad and feel betrayed and incredulous that this is what United chose to do.

If a could give this company a zero I would.. customer service is no service -- I have spent 2 hours two separate days on the phone with no answers , I get different answers every time I call. I have been told 7-10 days an answer and it has now been a month..2 weeks of which are in underwriting -- I just got a letter from underwriting with no phone number for them, but for customer service who has no clue what is going on which has taken 12 days in the mail.

Poor website with outdated information. Poor ability of customer service to rectify problems. Said and it is written that Shingrex is approved vaccine (two doses) with no co-pay for my policy but denied paying my first dose. Customer service, written form downloaded and appealed, no refund. They said the already paid. Well, it was 3-4 months later and they had paid 2nd dose, not first. FRUSTRATINGLY BAD!

Unfortunately, they were the contracted group coverage company for my husbands employer for many years. I must say when we first started with them 15 years ago, they weren't as bad, but in the last 4-5 years I'm having a hard time finding anything good to say. The website is woefully misleading with wrong information at every turn. It's not updated and if you call customer service, they are anything but helpful. And there isn't enough space here to mention all the problems with Optum Rd. I gave up on them years ago.

I have chronic medication and United healthy care as my primary and only health insurance provider managed to prevent the refill of my prescriptions for over 4 weeks. Countless hours of calls to inefficient and inexperienced staff and overseas call centers. Some of the calls taking more than 80minutes. At the end of each call they tell you the matter will be resolved however two days later you get another message stating that there is an issue with your refill. December 17, 2019 I applied for insurance with United Healthcare on December 11, 2019. I spoke with Matthew G M. He suggested the Triterm Medical Plan and a Hospital Safeguard plan. Absolute garbage coverage. You would think that between the company and my out of pocket expenses of about $25k a year they would afford coverage. They look for any reason to not pay a claim and not afford coverage. Oh and the "Family Specialist" assigned to me Holly is by far the worst person I have ever spoken with in regards to anything. Pharmacy ran out of medication. I transferred my prescription to another pharmacy and explained what happened but United denied me medication. They said it was too soon to refill a prescription disregarding what I told them about the pharmacy across the street being out. I’m canceling my plan. This is ridiculous. You should never deny someone medication. Atleast give them some to take that day so they don’t skip a day while things get sorted out

Horrible! I spent extra time listing/verifying my medications with a representative to ensure I was purchasing the correct plan. After months of not being able to pick up my prescriptions, paying almost $200 a month, trying generic brands my doctor did not want me on that made me sick and waiting on additional forms and paperwork from my doctor as requested by UnitedHealthCare to ensure approval of my medications, I am told that there is no plan that covers my medications!? What a horrible, expensive, waist of time!

I thought it was a good insurance company until my son needed a surgery my Dr said they are the hardest to get approvals for surgery. I still thought we would be good but we now are going into the second summer of trying and fighting to get this surgery my son(16) needs before he turns 18 and his condition gets worse. It already causes him pain but United healthcare considers it a cosmetic surgery. When my son has a dent in his chest so big my fist fits in it that's not cosmetic it causes pain when breathing and doing activities. So I advice if you have a choice don't use united health care.

The absolute most incompetent workers and unorganized system I've ever encountered in customer service. Spent literally a year calling back to get a simple reimbursement because every time I called and even provided reference numbers, they seemed to have no record of my case. I would re-explain it EVERY SINGLE TIME... the amount of transferring calls was also ridiculous. I'm a fairly patient person, and I never feel inclined to leave bad reviews, but this company is the worst of the worrrrrst. Please please please do not go with UHC.

They are horrible. They process thing appointments and lab work stating that they aren’t covered in network and have state they wrong the wrong “tax ID #” I went through hoops to try and get it fixed. I even had a representative from the hospital on hold to get the # updated and all they could say was “it’s not processing correctly on our end.” They’re great at making you feel like they’re trying to get things resolved and not doing anything about problems that they create.

I have PPO insurance with UHC and its the worst insurance I have ever had. They have very onerous policies and find any way to possible to deny payment of treatment or reduce payment. They are misleading in their definitions within their plans so you find out things are covered way differently than originally thought. They are unreasonable in coverage of pharmacy medications as well.

United Healthcare customer service is terrible. You talk to machine that transfers you to more machines and then it will hang-up on you If you’re lucky enough to push the right Button you might get a person to talk to that will transfer you back to a machine that will hang-up on you. I’m sure its not the people working there it’s the company police. The people at the top don’t wont to answer questions.

If you have any choice whatsoever do not choose this insurance! They are heartless, this is not about good healthcare, this is about a huge moneymaker. I, like many others do not have a choice but if you do, do your research and look at the reviews. The last conversation I had with them was pathetic and I told them "you are doing a better job killing me than helping me". Do your research and good luck.

United will gladly take over $600 per month for a mediocre plan but first thing that happens when I actually need to go to the hospital is I get a letter from them saying they’re going to deny my claims because they think someone else should pay for my health care costs.
