Oscar has been a great insurance and also we totally love the app! Their network of doctors has been exactly what we needed and our monthly premiums are the right price.

I love how easy it is to use the Oscar app. I have used the Service "Talk to a Doctor for Free". and it has saved me a great deal time and I was impressed with how quickly they responded.

Used the 24 hours doctor service and was very satisfied. My call was returned quickly and the doctor was able to call in a prescription for my gum infection. This all took less than an hour.

The customer service is very good and both the website and app and very easy to use.
The number of doctors that accept the plan is ok but I wish they had more Hospitals in the network.

The oscar app is awesome, you have everything you need. From looking for a doctor to a specialist and they pay you $1 everytime you reach your step goals. Friendly customer service

Like most insurance companies, Oscar will refuse to pay for most tests and medical care until you pay their outrageous deductions first. It's only worth it having insurance with them if you plan to spend a lot of time in the hospital and have heavy medical expenses. If you have moderate expenses, you will spend thousands out of pocket, on top of your premiums, before Oscar pays for anything. We need to get rid of companies like this and institute universal, not-for-profit healthcare.

Oscar claims to be the solutions to healthcare and it turns out they made the problem worse. In May 2019 they fired the good doctors from their plan in San Antonio and only do business with the less capable/experienced doctors in the Baptist network that they feel they can control. My Bronze plan pays for nothing! $640+ and they won't even pay for part of the blood panel required for my annual physical. If when I signed up I knew I would lose all the doctors I do business with on May 1, I certainly would have not renewed them for the 3rd year. YOU ARE WARNED! Stay away - they are a young insurance company already desperately cutting benefits.

I love Oscar. They're always there to answer my calls and answer my questions. The monthly price and accompanying high deductible are the only reasons I chose to give 4 stars.

I was initially in love with Oscar and it’s customer service model until I had to actually use their medical coverage which is insultingly bad. Apparently, according to their reviewer who denied my claim, my hospital stay after surgery was “unnecessary” (although standard by all other accounts) because even though I literally couldn’t walk, had to be carried to my bed by nurses, as well as other factors that are common after a major surgery they thought I should have been able to levitate home and have outpatient coverage! Their concierge customer service was extremely polite and friendly but I cannot get any solid information from them, only vague almost automated responses that seem to be designed to frustrate you so you will just give up seeking the coverage you pay them for. I am beyond disappointed. My direct questions are never answered. Please believe the reviews about their denials of coverage. You do not want to be hit with a ridiculous bill of close to 20k when you should be focusing on recovery. The point of insurance is for peace of mind when dealing with health care and prevention and my recent experience with Oscar has been the exact opposite! Sure, their ads seem inviting, and their app interface is cool, but what they lack is substance which is exactly the point of any health coverage. I really wish I saw these negative reviews sooner, because they have been my exact experience!

Oscar cashed my check for my premium payment. I then received a letter stating I was delinquent with my payment. I call oscars “concierge” team and they request I forward them proof. I go to my bank, collect the proper paperwork and file it over. Representative states to me that it looks like an error was made in their end but until the billing department finds my check I am considered delinquent. They tell me to pay online or by phone so there’s no mix up again. So imagine this.... you wrote a check out to your insurance company, they cash it, you send them proof that they cash it and then they tell you it may be safer to do it online or by phone. I do not recommend this company to anyone. Told me it would be resolved in 24 hours. It has been a week now. This is not a company you want to be involved with.

My fiancé has the Oscar plan. It has been a terrible experience. There are so few doctors who take Oscar. She has had preventative care for women's health and Oscar denies any coverage. They wouldn't even cover the follow up appointment with the copay, so we had to pay fully out of pocket. I highly recommend staying away from this company. Read all the reviews. they're almost all bad. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and have NONE of these issues. Every single doctors visit I go to I only pay my $30 copay. Even preventative care. This company is not looking out for your best interest. IT"S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY AT OSCAR

Reply from Oscar
Hi Josh, thank you for taking the time to write this review. Health insurance plans can differ, so if your fiancé has a high-deductible plan then certain non-preventive services will be subject to the deductible. This means that they be responsible for the allowed amount of those services up until the deductible is met. The bill received from a provider may reflect the cost for their service and not what you will ultimately owe after we apply the allowed amount to that bill. We're happy to answer any follow up questions your fiancé may have at 855-OSCAR-55.

Started with OSCAR for 2019. Near end of January, I purchased Stelara through CVS Speciality Pharmacy as recommended by OSCAR. Used Stelara Savings Program to pay remaining balance of $7900 - $5.00 copay paid by me under Stelara savings program. This purchase satisified my deductible as indicated by several pharmacy reps and the pharmacist filling the prescription. All said I had met my obligation for the year. The OSCAR online system also showed the deductible had been paid. I saw another doctor after this for a sinus infection and medication was prescribed and all charges were covered. On 2/25/19, I fell and fractured my hip. Went to E/R at an in network hospital. Give hospital my card. They come back an hour before my surgery to tell me OSCAR says I owe a deductible. I tell them there must be some mistake, as it was fulfilled in January. So I follow up with OSCAR when I am home on 3/1/19, and was told they backed out the deductible paid in January because it did not physically come out of my pocket, even though it was paid on my behalf by Stelara. My last insurance provider always provided these Stelara payments towards my deductible, and so did OSCAR initially. I asked OSCAR rep what difference did it make if Stelara reimbursed them on by behalf, or if I paid and then got reimbursed by Stelara??? There answer: "Because it came out of your pocket, and we don't get re-imbursed by Stelara, when they pay on your behalf". Say what???? So now I will be forced to go through this a second time. I don't know yet how the hospital emergency will be handled and now I am on pins and needles wondering what other shenanigans they will pull. The other thing I do not like is they will not accept credit card payments for premiums. My premiums are almost $800.00 a month. Their customer service reps are super slick, and will explain away anything that makes sense to a normal person. Like where did the money go that Stelara paid on my behalf?? It just doesn't vanish into thin air, and it would appear OSCAR is taking $7895 from Stelara and will take another $7895 from me. How can this possibly be legal?? Yet, they insist it is, and they did not receive anything from Stelara. I called Stelara, and they said the insurer can allow the payment from Stelara to be paid towards the deductible. So why is OSCAR not doing the right thing in this matter???? Why did they back out the Stelara payment?? I'm sure they didn't give it back to Stelara. So where did the Stelara money go??

Hi Linda, we appreciate the feedback. Due to privacy laws this isn’t something we can help with via Best Company, but DM us your Oscar ID number and we’d be happy to have your Concierge team get in touch with you to help. As an Oscar member, you can still use third-party copay assistance programs, keeping in mind that only the amount you pay for the prescriptions yourself will be applied towards your deductible or out-of-pocket max. When a coupon is applied, members can waive the full cost-sharing cost for a speciality drug, not including all other services, until the coupon runs out. The cost-sharing is split between the member, Oscar, and the manufacturer. We do want to note that this applies to speciality drugs, not coupons for retail drugs. Your Concierge team at Oscar is here to help you understand your plan, so please don't hesitate to give us a call at 855-OSCAR-55 when you have questions in the future.

I live in LA and am incredibly disappointed with Oscar. They only have mediocre doctors in LA through UCLA and they route the Oscar patients through a horrible call center so you can never speak with the doctor or assistant. My wife needed an MRI for hip pain after seeing two Oscar doctors and it was deny deny deny. I am still fighting them to get a basic MRI done. After the policy is done this year I am going back to Blue Shield even if it costs more. The EPO is basically a repackaged HMO. They have to approve everything. There doctor network is PATHETICLY bad. I don’t care what anyone says. I gave them a chance and am now regretting it.

Unless you have a ton of time to devote to finding a doctor, waiting in a waiting room and in general struggling to get your needs met, this is not the insurance for you. We signed up for Oscar starting 1/1/19 and on 1/3, we started looking for doctors. The first several we called said they didn't take Oscar, despite being on Oscar's site. The next several were not primary care doctors despite being listed as such on Oscar's site. We finally got an appointment with someone a week out to find their office standing room only and being told wait time was 2 hours after the appointment time. After giving up on that, we went back and tried calling more doctors to find the same thing happening or the doctors that did support Oscar and were primary care doctors were booking appointments months out. During this whole thing we tried working with Oscar's "Concierge Team" and they're useless. They have the exact same list we do on the website, don't believe you when you tell them it's wrong, won't call on your behalf (despite their website saying they will)... It's just a huge, useless, expensive nightmare.

By far the worst insurance company and customer service I've ever experienced! I moved out of state and canceled my service with them. The representative I first talked to said they would refund me for my last month of service since they couldn't cover me in the state I moved to. Two weeks go by and no refund. I called again and they said they couldn't refund me unless I proved to them I had overlapping insurance with a new company. My new insurance didn't start till the first of the next month so they used that as an excuse to deny my refund. Despite proving that I moved out of state they refused to refund me the $518 I paid them for a service they couldn't provide me any longer. Typical insurance company... all they care about is getting your money! Find a different insurance company and save yourself the headaches!

Do not get this insurance. I got Oscar and it might cost me thousands ,hers why. I woke up at three am sick as a dog and sweating and feeling like I was dying so I called an ambulance and they took me to the nearest hospital. Since I'm 64 years old and I have heart disease and have a stint the heart doctor at the hospital wanted me to spend the night and to take some tests. Turns out Oscar says they won't pay my hospital stay because they said there was no sound medical reason for me to stay the night and have the tests. The doctor at the hospital says I should spend the night. I assume he knows what he's talking about. Was I suppose to not listen to him? Oscar is totally bottom line and all about profits over caring for you so do yourself a favor get other insurance.

They are fine when it comes to regular doctor appointments and prescriptions. However when it comes to emergency and specialty care, the real reason people have insurance, they are a joke. I have been waiting 6 months trying to get my son into a Nephrologist. My son has one kidney and is loosing weight. The only nephrologist in my area is out of network. Oscar says they will pay for it but now it is months later and nothing has changed. They haven’t done what they need to do. I’ve been on the phone with Oscar about this issue 100s of times. They just keep me waiting and running me in circles. They are easy to get ahold of however and their employees are very nice. The company on the other hand needs to get their act together. I’ve never had such a fustrating experience in my life. Their own employees can’t even back up the company on how this is being handled and yet nothing has changed.

Most of the folks at Oscar are nice. The coverage language is slippery. For example - 'normal' foot care is not covered unless it has to do with diabetes. Apparently, removing a bone from a foot which requires 'normal' anesthesia in a hospital isn’t covered either.
Oscar still has not resolved the issue with Anesthesiologist. Apparently the Anesthesiologist is submitting claim incorrectly but Oscar won't tell them how to submit with correct codes. So? I get pay because Oscar won't work this out??

Oscar isn't accepted by almost any doctor I've contacted and their Oscar clinic doctors left me disappointed. I felt my issues were left untreated and the doctor was not thorough. My high deductible has left me unable to get multiple prescriptions I've needed. Oscar tried to charge me over $300 for copays on meds. I give them two stars simply for their marketing and easy to contact customer service. Overall I would NOT recommend purchasing this insurance.

After being laid off, I enrolled in an Oscar plan to start 10/1/18, paid my premium and uploaded paperwork showing no lapse in coverage. On November 1, I logged on to pay my next premium only to find that I had been un-enrolled. In a panic, I called customer service and was told that, at some point in mid-October, the decision had been made that my coverage paperwork was missing a letter...but nobody had reached out to let me know that! I immediately uploaded the letter in question. It is now 11/14/18, and I still do not have retroactive coverage, despite being assured it would be taken care of by the 12th. If somebody had simply let me know I needed to submit a single document back in mid-October, none of this would be happening. As you can imagine, it is unbelievably stressful in the current political climate to be in limbo about health insurance coverage, especially for a middle-aged person like me who hasn't had a coverage lapse in decades. I now have no faith whatsoever that Oscar will communicate with me about important matters like this. While everyone I've talked to on the phone has been very nice, I have not received any kind of explanation as to how this situation happened in the first place. I have also spent a considerable amount of time trying to fix it, and an immeasurable amount of fear and stress. And it's still not resolved.

Terrible company, terrible coverage. I thought Idealcare was the worst insurance on the marketplace, I was wrong. Oscar is a horrible company, they use marketing and a flashy phone app to hide the fact that they are greedy and unethical. They pay for nothing, and even when they've "guaranteed" a service is "covered at 100%", they still send me a large bill several weeks later. Their "consierge" messagaing system is a joke, it's just a buffer to keep customers from getting any straight answers or any medical services from being covered. Companies like Oscar really highlight how corrupt and broken our healthcare system is. Oscar doesn't care about anything other than their bottm line. Do yourself a favor, pay a little more for better insurance this year, that's what I'm doing.

Positive reviews are fake. The positive reviews in October are ALL corporate impersonators. They are employees of the company reviewing before Open Enrollment to entice unsuspecting consumers. This is absolute fraud. The real people reviews from January until September were almost all universally negative. You know, when actual real people use the insurance and get huge bills, denied claims, and massive premium hikes. Just look back, mostly negative reviews Jan until September, then suddenly 40% of the total reviews all year, all 5 stars, come in October with similar language? What a joke, scam, and outright dishonest fraud

I have been with Oscar since its inception with Obamacare in 2014. It start ed off great with a large network and low cost and low deductible. Now I can piece together good specialists, but they are fragmented and some doctors just do not spend much time in an examination. The fragmentation of the network is the real loss. But my major complaint is that I had to do so much work to get coverage of an MRI that one specialist prescribed and I am still fighting to get coverage for a hospital admission after an emergency room visit. The hospitalization ensured that I did not have a stroke or heart attack and Oscar said because I did not , they will not cover the hospitalization. It is now in dispute with the DFS. Oscar is more concerned with cutting costs than my health.. I will most likely choose another company next year

Medical insurance coverage has been a learning experience. Oscar excels in their communication from concierges (staff) but falls short on services such as an available list of Durable Medical Equipment providers (DME). My son needed a special knee brace to wear following surgery and there was no list of DME providers available. So I had to eat the considerable expense of going out of network. Getting every procedure and x-ray approved has been time-consuming. I admit to choosing to take a low monthly premium and a very high deductible, taking a chance that my family would only need regular preventative care. An unexpected injury requiring surgery changed everything. I will be re-evaluating our coverages and health insurance provider based on this experience. I'm willing to pay high deductibles for in-network, but not having medical provider lists for everything is not good business. Nor is waiting 72 hours to get a list of providers.

My experience with Oscar Ins., highlights how poor their coverage is and the incompetence of their staff and coverage policies.
On May 9th I had I shoulder reconstruction surgery on my right surgery and, at the time of surgery, was covered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas (BCBS). Due to changes in my employment status I went through the Healthcare Market Place and picked up Oscar Insurance as a replacement insurance policy to continue on with the physical therapy sessions Blue Cross had already authorized and allocated.
However, when my insurance finally transitioned from BCBS to Oscar, the nightmare began.
Oscar Insurance Co outsources to another company, EvoCare, the monitoring and approval of all PT sessions requested by both the doctor and the therapist.
The surgeon who operated on my shoulder was very clear about things:
1) The failure rate on the surgical procedure on my shoulder has a 50/50 success rate.
2) Consistent physical therapy treatment is the key element relative to success or failure of the surgery.
3) I would be require physical therapy or at least 6 months after surgery.
I'm am now in my 2nd month of physical therapy with Oscar. Simply put, their incompetence is endangering my recovery and creating the very real possibility that the surgical procedure used on my shoulder will fail.
1) Oscar refuses to issue more than a few PT sessions at a time and the takes more than a week to process requests for additional pt sessions. (During these breaks in treatment scar tissue develops in the joint and movement becomes difficult.)
2) Oscar representatives "hide" behind their statements that the authorization process is "EvoCares responsibility and not theirs."
3) Between the subsidy paid to Oscar through the Affordable Healthcare Act and my premium, Oscar collects close to $800.00 a month for premiums, however the cost of PT sessions is less than $65. per session.
Simply, Oscar is making a killing in monthly premium and refusing to adequate treatments to restore and recover from surgery.
I strongly encourage anyone ...LOOK TO ANY OTHER INSURANCE COMPANY OTHER THAN OSCAR for coverage. It is THE WORST. It seems their owners are, as most business owners these days, more interested in increasing their profits at the expense of patients who need service. I'm reminded of a phrase I seem to have heard some where before that probably comes out of the mouth of their CEO when talking about Oscar patients..."Let them eat cake."
As I understand it from the admin at my PT office, I'm not alone in my experience with this "insurance company."

There are things I like about Oscar: Fun, chic marketing intro packet, and some of the people on the phone have been great.
There are some things I don't like about Oscar: They aren't transparent with trying to understand future billing situations; they often give you the wrong information on which providers are covered so you have to spend excessive amounts of time (if you have it to spend) researching everything detail yourself to ensure you don't get slammed with a large bill because you were improperly informed; they say they offer benefits, but when you research what those benefits are, they don't (in my case) actually benefit you; and the people that man their phone centers sometimes make spurious claims when you press them on why something is the way it is. I don't give a lot of reviews. I'm almost always happy with what I purchase and do the due diligence to know what is a good purchase. I didn't with my choice to go with Oscar, and I regret it. My experience with Oscar has brought me to a point where I have to let other people know that a particular product (this insurance company) is not worth buying even if it is cheaper than other options. If you don't have lots of medical issue or likely won't be going to the doctor at all, this may be the plan for you, but if you go to the doctor a lot or are going to have a baby or are going to have surgery or are going to do anything else that may be invasive, I'd recommend saving your future self lots of frustration and time. Hopefully this helps them change to become a better company that people can rave about in the future.

Oscar verified with me ahead of time that my psychotherapist was in-network. Almost 4 months have passed and my psychotherapist has NOT been paid for her services to me. I have called Oscar multiple times to get this cleared up and it still hasn’t been cleared up or paid. This is just one issue I’ve had with this company. The others are too long to write about here. I’ll save them for other reviews. I don’t ever write poor reviews of companies, but I am completely frustrated with Oscar Health Insurance. They say one thing and then do not honor their commitment. It makes having health insurance nightmare. I went back to Blue Cross Blue Shield. Thank God.

I'm at the point where I no longer even believe that this is real health insurance. Their network of primary physicians in NYC seems to be made up of a handful of doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and at least one osteopath/chiropractor. The one actual doctor I managed to see ended up leaving the Oscar network after my first visit, leaving me to figure out how to continue my "healthcare" on my own. No one likes dealing with insurance companies, but do yourself a favor and at least find an insurance company that contains a solid and diverse medical lineup; Oscar does not come close to accomplishing this. On the other hand, with a $7500 deductible for a $500/month plan, I suppose you might as well go out of network if you can - you're going to pay for it out of your own pocket anyway.

Worst insurance ever! Do not enroll! Just found out I don’t have insurance. Somehow my family insurance policy was cancelled without notification and strangely my husband got a bill from Oscar as if he had just signed up by himself. So my 8 year old daughter and I don’t have insurance and we just went to the doctor for our yearly check ups. I wonder now what would be our bill.
We are calling tomorrow to find out but never have experienced this issue with any other insurance before. Definitely going back to Anthem. It’s more expensive but coevers more than Oscar. With Oscar you pay monthly and you pay also Everything else! Terrible!!

Well let's see where should I start? I need an MRI that has been requested by two different doctors and Evicore denied it three times and so did oscar. I feel that if a request or several have been made by a doctor and I am paying my premium that I should be able to get my MRI. I am not happy with this insurance and wasnt happy with the last one which was Ambetter by Superior.

Recently went to The Cleveland Clinic (Oscar was only Insurance available for CC through Healthcare.gov). My doctor requested a Hep C test. I received the bill. $2,153.00 !!! My girlfriend had the same lab work and test done at University Hospital and was charged $548.00 for the same lab work and analysis. To add further insult, Cleveland Clinic had to run this laboratory test three separate times to get results that they could trust. They are "partners with Oscar". My out of pocket cost was $889.51 !!! Additionally I have had issues with medications that were covered by my former healthcare insurance provider (and prescribed by my family doctor at Cleveland Clinic), that are not covered! If I could give less stars I would. I will now have to switch healthcare providers in order to get insurance that is reasonable relative to total costs. BTW I pay $953.67 monthly!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe the Cleveland Clinic would make such a poor choice in Insurance providers. I wonder what other poor choices they making?

Hi Rich, we’re sorry to hear you’re not satisfied with your experience. Depending on the plan you’ve chosen, you may need to reach a deductible for non-preventive services, including lab work, before cost sharing applies (preventive services are always covered). This means that you'll be responsible for the full negotiated rate of those services up until the amount of your deductible is met. We’re unable to comment on rates that other providers and insurers have, however if you have questions about costs of specific medications, tests, or services your Concierge team would be glad to help. Anytime you call or send a message through the app, you’ll speak to the same people every time. Please don't hesitate to give us a call to discuss this or any other concerns: 855-OSCAR-55.

I don’t want to give any star to this insurance company. First of all the clinic told me they have network. I have received claim declined letters from Oscar since they are not network. But they are network... I have visited the clinic manager to make sure if they really are network with them. The manager called the insurance and they admitted they are network with this insurance provider.
Again I have received another declined letter from the insurance. I contacted with insurance to ask what’s going on. They said they will need to confirm so need time.
I am wondering why they don’t know if they have network with the clinic...
I have no idea ... this is ridiculous.
I don’t know what I am paying for.
This is huge mistake to pick this insurance.
Please don’t ever get this insurance.
It’s not worth it at all

THIS COMPANY GETS YOUR BUSINESS BY LYING TO YOU
If you have need medicine or have a pre existing condition run as fast as you can away from this company.
First if all their "negotiated costs" for some medicines is no different than paying at a retailer with a Good RX card.
I spent multiple phone calls with them to make sure all my drugs and durable med equipment was covered. Even gave them id's so they could check. When I went to order they only covered one, and not with the suppliers I gave id's for but with a third party. One of the items I need they charge MORE than if I buy direct from supplier out of pocket.
Their idea of a negotiated cost is 175 bucks for a 20 day supply of insulin. I can get that with a good rx card without insurance. They don't tell you this before you sign up. Not to mention this is a pharmacy order BUT they won't apply it to the $500 pharmacy deductible. They apply it to the $6000 deductible which means they never help with the cost.
The website is a joke. You call a doctor on the site they have never heard of Oscar. Even when you call them they give you names of doctors that have not heard of them nor take their insurance. 6 months I have been trying to get appointments.
We are self employed and we pay ALOT for really nothing...and don't even get me going on the pediatric dental.
This company is a scam to rob you of your money. Can't wait for 2019 so I can be done with them.

Hi Kristen, we’re sorry to hear you’re frustrated with your plan. Due to privacy laws we're unable to discuss the specifics of your private health info here. Depending on the plan you’ve chosen, you may be subject to the full negotiated rate for prescriptions and services until the deductible is met. Please be aware that Oscar works with a third-party partner for all durable medical equipment requests and if filled with an in-network provider, any costs would be applied to a plan’s deductible or durable medical equipment cost-sharing. Our Concierge team is standing by to help find providers that meet our members’ needs – they can supply a list of potential providers according to a member’s plan. I've been going back and forth with Oscar and Mt Sinai hospital over an unpaid claim, which Oscar of course assured me was taken care of. It's been 4 months. I found out today they denied the claim because "it was supposed to go to Optum - who handles our mental health claims". This was for a consultation for basal cell carcinoma, NOT a mental health issue.
Not only did they deny the claim without telling me, they actually told me it was paid and now I'm past due! I'm on hold right now with Oscar and the agent told me I had to call Mt Sinai and deal with this myself. This is absurd!
NEVER EVER insure with Oscar. I'm going to find a new insurance company for my business as soon as I get this fixed.

Not worth the price! You have to pay the full price of EVERYTHING at the docs office till you meet the deductible. So much for budgeting a feely paycheck! My last 15 minute appointment cost me $215 out of pocket!!! The network hospital is over 1.5 hours from my home. I have a local hospital and a full network of docs 20 minutes away and must now drive past all of them to get to Oscar's network! This plan should not be sold in an area if the local hospital doesn't take it!! If you haven't checked on their website yet- the search function to find a doc is useless- or I'd have discovered the paltry network when I shopped for a health plan.

Hi Geraldine, we're sorry to hear you're frustrated with your plan. If you have a high-deductible plan, preventive services are covered in full, but any non-preventive services will be subject to the deductible. This means that you'll be responsible for the full negotiated rate of those services up until the amount of your deductible is met. We do have a curated network of providers, which means that our network is made up of select providers and hospital systems who, like us, are interested in keeping costs down for our members without sacrificing any quality of care. Our full network of providers is searchable on our site at , but we're also always happy to help you find in-network options. Additionally, if there's ever an emergency, your plan covers emergency care at out of network emergency rooms as well as urgent care at out of network urgent care facilities. Please don't hesitate to give us a call at 855-OSCAR-55, we're always here to help.

I am SO frustrated by my dealings with OSCAR and the company who provides their Physical Therapy services, eviCore. I and my physical therapist office have talked to them on MULTIPLE occasions to try to get the services that my Therapist, my doctor and myself, feel I need. EVERY time I call their representative to try to get some clarity, I am given information that does not match what I have been previously been told or that my therapist have been told. so, one complaint is that they do not keep good notes and are unclear about what they are doing. My second complaint is that they are disregarding my best interest. I have been in pain for over a year and am finally feeling better and seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. My therapist has said to them on multiple occasions that she feels like if she were able to work with me for 4 more weeks then I should be good to go but they are not allowing that. She has now requested 2 more visits to set up a home plan because they told her they would not give anymore and she was able to get them to consider the 2--even thought this is not what she thinks I need. (btw, I am already doing LOTS of exercises she has given me at home, I am still having trouble sleeping due to hip pain and am not able to walk or sit for any amount of time with out discomfort, not to mention get any kind of exercise) I am so frustrated as is my provider.
Additionally, I drive 30 minutes to go to a therapist because you guys had only ONE of the many physical therapy groups that my Doctor (who is in your plan) recommended. I think this is unacceptable.

Oscar was the least expensive plan in my area, had a nice website, and promised to basically be "techy" and "new." I signed up. I have my first claim. It's under $70, and I'm not even seeking reimbursement - only want the payment reflected in my deductible since I paid out of pocket. It has been nearly two months and they have denied my claim without even speaking to my doctor. I call them to figure out why they haven't spoken to my doctor and they lie and tell me they tried calling them several times and faxing and they won't respond. This is a major nationally-known hospital, not some family practice with a 68 year old receptionist who can't use a computer. In my experience, they are just in the business of denying claims. Luckily for me it's less than $70 and was only for a follow-up appointment, but what of all the people they are doing this to who have life-threatening conditions? Who don't have the money to cover these mistakes by Oscar while it gets "figured out?"
My experience so far: seems to be a scam company. And wouldn't you know it, Jared K.'s brother is the founder. I'd pay double next year for any other insurer. It's not worth it.

I chose Oscar simply because it was the cheapest option in my area with my doctor in network. I'm regretting it. They don't accept credit cards. Given how "secure" we know systems are not these days, I NEVER give my debit card out. And, yet -- now I have to to these people. Plus -- EVERY time I've gone to the site to either pay or look something up, I have had nothing but trouble. And, you can't call after hours to pay a bill over the phone. They're terrible at user functionality. I haven't had to use the actual coverage yet. I'm worried given some of the reviews and the fact that it's hard enough just to pay them.

Hi Heather, we do not accept credit cards due to the high fees that they charge. We do our best to keep costs down for our members whenever we can. A minimum of $0.85 of every $1 we receive in premiums is spent directly on health care claims for our members. Unfortunately accepting credit cards would mean potentially raising premiums to accommodate this and we're not interested in raising rates for our members whenever we can avoid it. We apologize for any inconvenience. As for our site, we did have a brief outage with our payment vendor for about an hour on Friday 3/2. During this time, the payment are of the site was indeed down. This has since been fixed and you should be good to go, apologies for any frustration this outage caused!

Believe all the other reviews - Oscar is awful. RUN in the other direction. My health insurance broker mistakenly signed me up for a February start date instead of March (even though I already had coverage from another company for February). No problem, I was told by my concierge, if I could provide proof of overlapping coverage for February, Oscar would refund me the payment and my policy could officially start in March. Great - I provide the proof, I get my refund and everything is all set...or so I thought! By total chance, I happened to sign into the Oscar web site a few days later - only to discover they had cancelled my entire membership (without alerting or warning me). I asked my concierge about it, and DESPITE HIS ORIGINAL ASSURANCE THAT MY POLICY COULD START IN MARCH, he now told me that receiving a refund meant I had to give up my entire policy. Again, he did not originally tell me this! I was offered NO apology for the mistake. When I explained this would potentially leave me without health insurance for all of 2018, he insisted my health insurance broker had to call Oscar and verify that he was the one to mistakenly enter the wrong start date before they would even consider reinstating my policy (and even then, it wasn't guaranteed) - first, I was told my broker had to call a certain number; then, it changed to an e-mail he had to write; the information was never consistent. And, again, keep in mind that I discovered my terminated policy by accident! They never even told me about it. By an extreme stroke of luck, I had actually not yet gotten around to cancelling my coverage with my previous health insurance provider - thank God, because it means I can leave Oscar behind and know that I do in fact have health insurance for 2018. I am now so grateful and happy to be giving my previous provider my money. If I had not randomly decided to check my Oscar profile online, I would have been in for a MAJOR rude awakening come March. Worse yet, none of them cared about this huge mistake - there was no sense of concern or remorse. Just an utterly unethical, deceitful, mismanaged company.

I have the unfortunate experience of trying to use my Oscar "insurance." Don't buy into the "cool" company hype...it is a total scam. I am on the phone right now trying to find out the cost of an in network procedure. But guess what? They don't do "price checking." According the the uninformed agent I am speaking with, there is no way to know the negotiated rate until the claim is processed! So you just go in network and wait for a bill to find out the cost. Oh, you want to speak to a supervisor? Nope, none available. This is really outrageous.
Update: I received a response from Oscar. It consisted primarily of a list of irrelevant excuses for refusing to disclose the negotiated rate for a specific procedure with an in-network provider. Completely unacceptable.

Hi Marie, unfortunately cost estimates are difficult to provide for two reasons. While we typically know why we're seeking care (maybe for a general check-up or a specific concern) we don't always know the kind of care we're going to need. Even when we do know the care we're seeking, the treatment is provided as a part of a care episode and may include other supporting services we're not anticipating. For example, if you go to see your provider for a cough, you will expect to pay for the office visit; however, diagnostic tests administered within the visit - such as breathing tests, labs ordered, or prescriptions sent may result in additional charges. Moreover, the charge you incur will vary depending on the setting in which you see a provider as well as that provider's specific credentialing and qualifications. While we are committed to providing cost transparency when and where we can, these factors make cost estimates hard to pin down. Above all, we want to make sure we're providing you an estimate that we can stand by so that you can make a decision with confidence and would never want to provide an estimate that could be inaccurate. We are aware that this is a pain point for members at this time and are working hard to improve this experience for the future. Your request to speak to a supervisor was escalated by the representative you spoke to and someone will be reaching out within 48 business hours.

Oscar: You will be expected to cover 100% of the negotiated rate.
Me: Understood. What is the negotiated rate for this mammogram.
Oscar: Oh, we don't have that information, can no tell you and no one will.
(Verbatim)
I have one question. How is this legal?
They refuse to say what the costs are, even when provided with CPT codes and the Tax ID# of the facility. Absurd. One thing they do expect is for their members to pay the bill when it does come.
Oscar. Your system is broken. I have shared with our entire work network, friends, family and regional points of contact that your company is not a good option for anyone.
