Spot & Tango is a specialty dog food brand from Breuer Premium Pet Food Company. Founded in 2014, the brand sells human grade dog food cooked in small batches, available with convenient, subscription-style delivery. It is made in New York with locally sourced ingredients. The meals are sold online and in select Northeast pet stores.

This isn’t your normal dry dog food. It is homemade dog food cooked to order, with an emphasis on how the food will affect your dog’s health. These personalized meals come at a price, but are personalized for each pet. The price of Spot & Tango pet food varies based on your dog.

The Good

  • Trial and Money-Back Guarantee
  • High Quality, Fresh Ingredients
  • Shipping and Subscriptions
  • Meal Plan Algorithm

Trial and Money-Back Guarantee

If your fur baby is a picky eater, this pet food delivery service offers a risk-free trial. Not only can you get 50 percent off your first order for two weeks, but in the event that your dog doesn’t like it, Spot & Tango will give you a refund for your 2-week trial order.

High Quality, Fresh Ingredients

Recipes are formulated by vets and animal nutritionists and products exclude all fillers, additives, preservatives, and animal byproducts found in many commercial dog food brands.

This is fresh food. Ingredients are never processed.

Not only does Spot & Tango offer fresh dog food made with a blend of real ingredients, but its menu options are good for special diets and several food allergies and uphold the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) standards

Each meal is cooked to order with care, in small batches, just a few short days before it is delivered.

Spot & Tango offers three dog food recipes, suitable for puppies and grown up dogs:

  • Turkey and red quinoa
  • Beef and millet
  • Lamb and brown rice

Based on what your dog needs, health-wise, as well as nutrition and caloric intake, meals can cost about $8+, which is $100+ per week’s supply and arrive in specially made containers just a few days after they were prepared.

If you don’t want to commit to the full plan, there is a Topper dog food delivery subscription to use on top of your dog’s regular food, to provide some of the benefits of its homemade dog food recipes without the full price.

Shipping and Subscriptions

Shipping is free and meals are shipped in biodegradable environmentally friendly boxes made from recycled paper. Meals are vacuum sealed and flash-frozen in food-safe pouches and include a best-if-used-by date.

Dog food subscriptions auto-renew, but customers can always contact to cancel or change their order by Thursday night at 11:59 p.m. EST.

This is more of a meal delivery service for dogs. The difference is that pet owners can’t really just order one meal or an ad-hoc order through the website.

Subscriptions can be canceled by contacting customer service, but you do have to submit the requests by Thursday night at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Menu Service

Spot & Tango uses a proprietary algorithm to see what recipe and nutrients your dog’s diet needs. It creates a unique, tailored meal plan for each pet.

However, you do have to fill out a quiz before it will share any pricing information because the meal recommendations are based on your dog’s breed, gender, age, weight, and activity level, among other data points.

You can even provide the date of your pet’s birthday to get a special present.

The Bad

  • Service Area
  • Service Hours
  • Pricing Transparency

Service Area

If you live in Alaska or Hawaii, service isn’t available in your location. Try another dog food delivery service or wait for expansion to be planned for your area. The issue is probably shipping time because of the company’s emphasis on freshness.

Service Hours

Customer service is only available by phone Monday–Friday 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern. However, for people unable to call during that time, email and an online message form are offered to connect with the service team.

Pricing Transparency

It's hard for dog owners to get a ballpark price without filling out a personalized quiz for each furry friend. For customers who don’t like to jump through hoops or play games, this may be a bit of a barrier. These people should know that this is a high market gourmet dog food product. You will spend hundreds of dollars each month. If that is out of your price range, you might not want to complete the form.

The Bottom Line

Spot & Tango’s dog food subscription is focused on health and wellness. It helps pet parents feed their dogs homemade style meals delivered in frozen, ready-to-serve meal packages. Each of the three recipes is approved for feeding dogs of all life stages. Customers receive fresh fruits, vegetables and meats in a biodegradable container at their door. Other dog food companies or even specialty meal delivery services don’t go to such great lengths.

With this emphasis on nutritional value and homemade quality preparation, this food for dogs is not cheap, but it is easy and good for your pup. Grain-free dog food is even offered in two out of three recipes. Prices start at $4+ per meal ($2 with the 50 percent off introductory offer) and that includes shipping. If you aren’t sure if you want to join this pet food delivery program, or even buy dog food online, you can get a 50 percent off offer for your 2-week trial.

I hate the Spot & Tango website. I hate how complicated it is to place or alter or even cancel and order. I have four (4) senior dogs, weighing from 11 pounds to 60 pounds. When I got to the final price, I decided that I would only order for my two larger dogs and then portion the food out along with my homemade food (I have experience in pet nutrition). Hah! Because the site is so cumbersome, I think I will sign on as a new customer and start over and just list one 60 pound dog. I'd give the product more stars, but I just realized that each bag for the large dog is less than 5 lbs and costs over $50. I guess I'll just continue with my homemade dog food. Convenience is far too expensive.

I am on the start of my third month with Spot and Tango. I notified them that two months in a row they shortchanged us on dog food. The last month I was surprised when food ran out five days ahead of time. As a result we had to feed with different food. My puppy got diarrhea on the carpet. It costs us $150 to clean the carpet. I literally measured out each serving for the upcoming month and discovered we would be short again. They gave me a laundry list of steps I needed to take down to taking pictures of bar codes the actual scoop they provided etc. We are literally talking about a difference of $12 monthly of food and I just wanted the amount shipped to me so my dog would not get sick again. I followed up again and they refused to even address getting me the food so my dog would not get sick. (Whether I pay extra for it or not) Their customer service is terrible and they are more concerned with proving the consumer wrong then the care for the puppy. Think twice before using them.

BEWARE... Spot and Tango is a terrible company with some of the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I tried their food and it was okay but I cancelled my account after the trial. When trying to price out options later, somehow was account was re-activated and I was charged for an order I never placed. I spoke with customer service and their response was essentially "we could do something for you, but that's against our policy." I am now left with paying for an overprice order that I never asked for and they are not going to do anything about it. Their only response was that I could donate the food and they would refund me 50% of the price. It's unreal to me that is how they conduct business - they sign up potential customers who never opted into their service and then hold them accountable. Stay away from this company at all costs

First of all there was NO indication that this was "auto-renewing". In addition I was NOT aware that I was spending over $90 for this order. This leads me to believe that your company is a SCAM and I will spend all the time necessary to inform the public at large of that fact. There is no excuse for people such as yourselves. I am am 81 year old with limited funds and very little to spend on my Coco regardless of how much he means to me. I already have a company that bends over backwards to assist me in cost, shipping and  quality. As far as I am concerned, your company offers neither. So do what you have to, but know full well, it will not be worth it to you in the long run.Furthermore, this business has no contact phone number for customers to complain that we have been charged two weeks after the "trial period" ended. There is no excuse for this thievery.

If you want to have a scheduled food delivery service, then stay away from them. They don't fulfill orders on time! I had high expectation of Spot & Tango as after extensive research (apparently not enough just like others have said) they were listed as #1 or one of the best ones for Fresh meal delivery. I've ordered their trial prior my puppy arrived so I can start the transition sooner than later. My pup loved the food don't get me wrong (both the unkibble and fresh meal), so I decided after the trial I would like to get the monthly subscription with a customized plan 70% unkibble and 30% fresh meal. The customer service team got back to me pretty fast when I reached out to get this customized plan into the system, and that's when all of my issues started with this company! 1. The website won't let me login, I've tried reset the password by going through the "forgot the password" more than 10 times and still can't get in. Contacted their customer service, and they said first they did some website upgrade and this might be causing this. Second time reaching out as my issue never got resolved (more than 2 weeks I can't get into my account), they said they will have a technician to look into it, after 4 days still no response and no solution. 2. Since I can't get into my account I can't modify my order. My pup is growing fast and I would like to adjust the weight to get the appropriate portion for his size but can't do it on my own, had to reach out to their customer service via email. 3. After my official first month order placed (automatically) on 7/5, the unkibble food shipped out 4 days after which is 2 days longer than when I ordered the trial. Waited for over a week still haven't received any shipping notification on the Fresh meal. I reached out to them and they basically said sorry but don't know what happened and will give you a 10% discount for the next order. After another 2 days, still no signs of shipment, reached out and they gave me a full refund for this portion of my order and said they will still ship it. But by then I already ran out of dog food, as we all know shifting dog food will add more pressure to puppy's sensitive stomach. At that time I was already frustrated, then they finally shipped out the order on Friday (2 weeks after they charged my credit card) and they just said they don't know what happened with their fulfillment team. 4. After receiving the shipping notification, it said the estimated delivery date is Tuesday, 5 days after this order has shipped! This is perishable food they chose the 2 day shipping, however they added this additional delivery instruction "deliver only on weekdays". When I received the order on Tuesday evening, the entire batch have already gone bad, not usable to feed my dog! Why ship it out on a Friday and add this additional instruction of not delivering on weekends? I've reached out to cancel my subscription. I wanted to get onto this service for the sake of convenience and high quality human grade food, yet all I got since the beginning is trouble and stress.

PSA: False "trial" for dog food. I ordered what I thought was a "trial" of this food, which my dog did not like at all. He only eats it if there is literally nothing else available. However, I guess I assumed that a trial was exactly that. and I that I would have the chance to review the food or that I would need to take additional action before more food was sent. NO. Not even a courtesy email a day or two before sending $60 worth of food that my dog won't even eat. A company with a good product doesn't have to trick you into a subscription. After receiving the first auto-ship order, I got an email saying that "You will receive a reminder email 3-days before your next order. You may pause or cancel your meal plan at any time." Except, no reminder email before the first subscription delivery. Truly. Got the "trial" and then nothing until the $60 surprise arrived at my door. No email asking whether my dog even liked the food or whether I wanted more. Very shady company. Do business at your own risk. Just wish I had done more research before ordering.

If you'd like to deal with a lot of headaches, and a lot of back and forth emailing, this dog food company is for you. If not, avoid them! We signed up under one of their % off deals, thinking it would be a great idea for our dogs. We try to feed them the best food possible...but that gets pricey. This looked like a good option. I ordered food for both dogs...waited quite a while for the first order...and the first order was short by two bags (of the Unkibble). I emailed and they said they'd ship two more bags. Then, when we went to feed them...the scoop which was supposed to be included wasn't there--in either order! I emailed to find out how much to feed them, and the customer service agent couldn't help me. So, all in all, headaches. I won't order with them again.

Unfortunately I cannot speak to the quality of the food & if my dogs liked it or experienced improved health. But I can address customer service! Our very first trial shipment arrived thawed, warm, and with no sign of remaining ice. I contacted customer service within minutes of delivery and got an immediate auto response asking for 72 hours to respond as customer service was closed. So, I waited for their customer service hours to open before trying again and received a chat response asking me to allow 4 days for a response – that was it, that's not customer service. For what I'm looking at spending per month on dog food and I expect some sort of response to receiving food that is unusable.

Placed order for 2 week trial. Received email confirmation saying order would ship in 1-3 days. It has now been 8 days and I have not even received a shipping confirmation as well as zero communication from the company other than spam ads. I have asked to have my account closed and future subscriptions canceled. They agreed to cancel my account and that was the end of the conversation. I noticed in the email confirming my cancellation it says as almost a side note that "I  do want to clarify that we are a subscription service, so after your 2-week trial your next order was automatically processed to ship two weeks later, as described in pre-purchase and post-purchase communications." I did not see this written anywhere when I originally signed up or made my purchase. This company will not refund me even though I have received nothing.

I got a coupon with hello fresh, food- dogs haven’t tried yet- my dogs have sensitive stomachs I like to believe because whenever I give them wet food of any kind they pretty much make a mess (gross). So I haven’t given it to them since I haven’t had time to stay home to make sure they’re okay. Ordered about 3 weeks ago and before my 2 week trial period was even up they charged me 168 for the following MONTH. I didn’t even have an account set up, dogs haven’t tried anything, didn’t know that’s the amount of it in full.... who pays 168 for dog food? I contacted them through fb messenger and emailed 2 times and still no response even to cancel my account that I NEVER had! I got charged yesterday so there is no way they’d already made the food so I really hope I get a refund I don’t even spend that much on myself for 2 weeks of food... lol...

I ordered some food from spot and tango for my two dogs the unkibble was just that , but worse. The dogs refused to eat it. Keep in mind we operate a dog boarding business. I cancelled the subscription prior to the new delivery , yet they still sent me a huge 28 day supply that unfortunately is not edible to any of the dogs . I contacted customer service and explained to them that my dogs were not satisfied, nor any of guest dogs . They do not honor their satisfaction guarantee. Terrible customer service and product. My dogs love the food, but at $400 a month I should NEVER be running out of food 5-7 days before the new order arrives. I have has this issues since the very first time I started using S&T. Why is the food not lasting the full 28 days, yet no one can seem to give me an answer aside from insuring I am giving my dogs the recommended portion..(which I am) Customer service, has not been helpful in this regard whatsoever. I can’t speak to a single live person. At this point I am ready to cancel my subscription.

I forgot to cancel the trial subscription and I lost my job recently so I contacted the customer care to discuss refund options. They weren't even concerned about my job loss, they gave a generic answer. I bought the unkibble so it's not even perishable like the other fresh food option from Spot & Tango. I offered to return it as soon as I received it but they didn't even consider that option. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Worst part is my dog didn't even like the food. Not even a bit.

When automation goes wrong! Orders are not fulfilled on time and the customer service is extremely lacking and basically feels like all AI. Its very frustrating that they cant even fulfill orders, we've run out of food on nearly every order. They are good offering discounts because they are constantly messing up. Its frustrating because i think its a great product, but for the high cost, you would think you would actually have enough food to feed your dog(s).

I used the company since June of 2020. The first six months were great. My dog enjoyed the food and the price was fair. But then it appears they changed their delivery from 2-day Air to "non air" and it takes approximately four days. Since then we have had four shipments arrive warm and and in-edible condition. I've now cancelled three times but they keep offering to send free replacement shipments. The replacement shipments even arrive warm. I am having to move on to a service that

I woke up to getting charged $80 this morning. I was saving my money because I need to take my pup to the vet for her ear infection. Now that is all gone and they don’t do refunds. I never got a email knowing they were going to charge me. All I wanted was the 2 weeks trial. Not a reoccurring order. Now my pups vet visit will have to be delayed. She doesn’t even like their food. It’s too hard for her to chew.

This Company will harm your pet. They incorrectly calculate your dogs calories to make it affordable at first glance. Once you start the trial you can check the calories. For my English staffy puppy at 3 months it calculated 375 calories, almost half of the 700 calories needed. Absolutely do not trust this company— if they can mess up something so simply as calculating calories imagine what else they’ve messed up.

Also, like the below, did research and found this to be a great dog food for the price (while still a bit pricey). However this is the WORST customer service I have ever received- late deliveries, stock answer responses, no delivery updates. My food is currently 2 weeks late, but I keep receiving these sun-shiny responses like I should be so happy my food is late... this company kind of all around sucks. Your pet deserves better!!

I've been subscribing Kibbles for 3 months. After the trial, the quality of food is totally different than is shown in Ad. The bag is full of crumbs, it doesn't look like the product shots in Ad AT ALL. Very few toppings, a few kibble-look like, and the rest is just crumbs. After 2nd try, I decided to unsubscribe and go somewhere else. If you are looking this place because of beautiful kibble product shot in ad, you'll get dissapointed.

Terrible!!! They say they give you two weeks to trial the food but it takes a week to even get to you and then by time you pet even tried the food they say too bad trial over! They want $143 for one month of food for a 3 lb dog. There is never anyone to talk to and the owner picks and chooses when they want to talk to you. You’re better off with Petco fresh food. Half the price and more convenient to return.

Very disappointed. Wildly overpriced and terrible customer service. They sent me an email on March 30 saying I had 1 day to make changes. I immediately emailed them that day and told them due to a job loss during this covid19 pandemic I could not continue with their company. I only received 1 trial shipment from them. They emailed back later that day saying it was too late to make changes. I paid $104 for 14 packs of food. That’s an average of $7.42 per meal. I don’t even spend that on myself at this point. Totally inflexible company and very disappointing.

My dog nibbles a $27 first order randomly, not ravenously. When I was charged over $100 two weeks later for another shipment (prior to being notified), I was told by Spot and Tango "no returns; no refund". Very unsatisfied with this company's misleading advertising. NOTAmazing!
