Groupon has been operational since its launch in December 2006. For the past 8 years, their goal has been to provide consumers and merchants a mutually beneficial site by working with vendors to offer discounts in order to drive more traffic to businesses. They offer a large selection of product categories for consumers with a large percentage of potential savings. Their platform allows customers to purchase virtually any product anywhere.

Groupon works with a large number of vendors to bring great value to their customers. Consumers will find over 50 categories to search for savings. They offer 4 main categories which include local deals, goods, getaways, and clearance as well as coupons specific to certain businesses such as department stores and travel sites. Each main category includes a list of sub categories. Consumers can search for virtually any service from restaurants to clothing stores. Planning a vacation? Consumers can search Groupon's database for deals on cruises, hotels, and more. Consumers who use Groupon have the potential to obtain up to 90% in savings. Groupon offers deals that provide a percentage off of a service or a dollar amount that can be put towards a purchase. Many of the coupons include the option to choose whether to redeem a discount online or in the store. Groupon uses what they call the 'Groupon Promise' when handling returns. They promise consumers who have used a local Groupon voucher before its promotional value expired, took a Getaway trip, or attended a GrouponLive event and were disappointed with their experience that they can contact Groupon within 14 days and they will work with the consumer to make it right. Each type of service also has a no hassle refund policy: • Local Deals: A voucher may always be redeemed from the merchant for at least the total amount the consumer paid for it. Unredeemed vouchers may be refunded if returned within 3 days. • Getaways: Purchases may be refunded if the merchant is unable to book your stay during the dates specified by the voucher. Vouchers that have passed the book-by date may be used as credit with the merchant. • Goods: Any item may be returned within 14 days of delivery on Groupon.

The Bad

Groupon's website can be difficult to navigate when searching for customer service help. It is very difficult to find contact information via Groupon's website. The only contact information for customer service provided is a website. Only consumers who are members of Groupon are able to access the link necessary to contact customer service. This may make it difficult for some individuals to gain information and access certain questions without committing to become a member with Groupon. Groupon has been a company for 8 years. While this is a decent amount of time in business, some other deal sites reviewed have been around for 10 or more years. This gives other companies more experience in working with customers and providing savings.

The Bottom Line

Groupon offers customers a wide selection of products and services at incredibly discounted prices. Their platform allows customers the flexibility to find deals locally as well as nationwide that they can obtain from virtually anywhere. Their lack of transparency when providing contact information may make it difficult for some individuals to fully utilize their website. However, for those who are willing to join Groupon as a member, they provide an excellent resource for obtaining savings.

I’ve been using Groupon for many years now and have only one complaint. It seems like every time I try to use a purchased Groupon the website is down or the app reports an error. When using Groupon I’m finding that I really need to find a good time that’s good not only for me but also for Groupon. This is frustrating to say the least. I’m not sure what the issues are but what is the point of buying from Groupon anymore if I can’t use the Groupon I’ve purchased when I want to? Hopefully this time the app is only down for a couple hours and I will still have time to take the kids to Kentucky down under today.

Recently I had incidentally ran across a interesting restaurant that I hadn't experience. I called the restaurant and spoke with an employee about upcoming events, menu, reservations. The employee had told me about savings with "Groupon". After I searched with the convenient Groupon app, I was able to save myself considerably and found even more valuable discounts for other restaurants, events and services for the future. Now I'm a consistent customer of Groupon!

I have used Groupons many times. I have discovered new things and places I wouldn’t have without using Groupon. The only thing I don’t like is having them expire. I have had a few Groupons expire and I feel like it’s money down the drain.

Online chat function for customer service is excellent. Some 3rd party offers leave a lot to be desired in terms of customer service, prompt delivery etc but theres little GroupOn themselves can do about this. That being said, any issues I ever had with Groupon were dealt with very quickly and exceptionally professionally, top marks.

I often check groupon when looking to make purchases. I have found several great discounts just by scrolling through the site. a couple of times I have found deals that I was able to purchase multiple of the discount to use in the future which was wonderful because it saved me from having to spend the time looking for a deal again. the variety is amazing and knowing that the discounts are verified saves me from wondering if I am getting ripped off!

I have used groupon in the past and was very pleased with it. The variety of deals was great. I use them occasionally still but not as often because I couldn't keep track of everything and the expiration dates would lapse before I could buy/use them but for the deals I have purchased and been able to use it was a great deal. I would use them again.

I’m always finding great deals on Groupon! But I get frustrated when I spend “full Groupon price” for something and the next day I get a coupon code that would’ve saved me an extra 20%. I’ve bought everything from lighting, lotions, batteries, or concert tickets as well as car or spa services and have always had a good experience. So it’s a good, reputable site for saving money.

I love the deals we find on groupon, but I can't give it five stars because it has one problem: you pay for the deal up front, and then you have to remember to use the coupon before it expires. We have forgotten several times, which is just money down the drain. I have found the best way to use this site is to search for specific services you will be using soon, so you actually use the coupon, rather than just browsing and buying groupons you think will use in the future and then forgetting about them. If you use it right, you can get some really good deals.

I'm obsessed with using this app! This is so helpful and inexpensive. I love looking for all my needs here first since they're good deals. My only thing I don't like is the fine print. Example: I purchased teeth whitening and it indicates I need to have a consultation, but nowhere does it indicate that I need to pay for the consultation or if it's included in the price, etc.

I have bought several goods or services through Groupon. I have been pleased on some of the deals and disappointed with others. Two of the deals I was disappointed with were for food from very small businesses (pizza and cupcakes). I have not used it in the recent past but when I did, I did not feel the site showing my account was very user friendly (possibly b/c I was using it mostly on my phone). The deals are also sometimes confusing with the details and descriptions not always tracking with what is on the photo add on the feed. They send way too many emails.

I use Groupon occasionally. I did agree to receive their emails, so there are a lot of those and that is really the only complaint I have. I have bought several things from them and most have been a really good deal. Clothes are the one thing that make me nervous as sometimes sizing can be an issue. But, for the price, it is worth it to try sometimes. Things have always been delivered in a timely fashion.

I love Groupon!! I bought Beats headphones for my husband as well as my daughter for Christmas. They were not brand new, but they may as well have been. Nobody could tell the difference. They looked brand new and worked like they were brand new. I was a bit nervous about getting them on Groupon vs. spending twice as much and getting them at a store but I'm so glad that I did it. It was a great experience and I will definitely buy more things from Groupon in the future.

I love Groupon. I have saved a lot of money using my groupons and have been able to do activities that would typically be out of my price range but are much more affordable through groupon. The only problem I have encountered using groupon is I purchased one for jiffy lube but it had to be used at a specific location which was not in my area.

I love seeing the great deals on Groupon. I just only wish you could set a filter so that I don't have to worry about kids stumbling across inappropriate content...and it does have it on there. I however do love getting a good deal on things.

Have always had a good purchasing experience here. I took one star off because I purchased a Fitbit Blaze from here. It broke earlier this year and when I called Fitbit, they wouldn't help me because Groupon isn't a 'verified reseller'. So the warranty didn't apply.

Groupon provides a large variety of goods with great discounts for many occasions. However, not all the discounts are labeled well so it may be difficult to know what the coupon actually applies to. Overall, groupon is a great site that makes going to fun activities a lot easier!

Sometimes Groupon has great deals but sometimes it is just as expensive as buying the product or service without Groupon. Frequently the products sell out quickly so if you want to take advantage of all the deals you have to act fast.
