With certification from the U.S. Department of Transportation granting the title of a Scheduled Air Carrier, Allegiant has authority to fly scheduled and charter airline operations all across the United States. Charter services are also authorized in Canada and Mexico. The Good

  • Charter Options
  • Canceled and Delayed Flight Assistance

Charter Options

One of the most notable features of Allegiant Airlines is the option to charter a plane.

What does that mean, exactly?

When you charter an aircraft, you are basically having your flying experience tailored to your own personal wants and needs. Charter customers rent the entire plane and pay for that plane to be repositioned to their desired location. This service is available in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Customers can select the aircraft type, airports, departure times, and snacks. The snack menu contains over 15 items including Pringles, Blue Diamond Wasabi Almonds, Smoked Gouda Cheese Dip, a hummus snack pack, and more. The beverage menu is also plentiful and offers more than 10 sodas, juices, and teas and about 10 alcoholic beverages as well. Of course a service as elaborate as this one costs more than purchasing a standard ticket; charter rates are determined by scheduling and availability and include all taxes, baggage fees, airport services, snacks and beverages. Exact costs can be figured by contacting the airline's Charter Division.

Canceled and Delayed Flight Assistance

Allegiant Air is not responsible for refunding canceled or delayed flights; however, a positive, helpful policy it does have is that an Allegiant Air representative will assist travelers in finding discounted rates at nearby hotels if a cancellation does occur. If this unfortunate circumstance happens to take place in your travels, then you will at least have some piece of mind knowing that a well-informed Allegiant employee will be there to help minimize cost and inconvenience.

The Bad

  • Destinations
  • No Free Snacks
  • In-Flight Amenities
  • No Rewards Program
  • Expensive Insurance

Destinations

One downside to flying Allegiant Air is that only offers scheduled operations within the United States. Even though quite a few domestic US destinations are available, options are limited when considering destinations worldwide.

No Free Snacks

Looking forward to a soda and bag of peanuts? You're out of luck with this airline. Allegiant does provide complimentary snacks and beverages. They are strictly available for purchase. Additionally, Allegiant offers no meal service on any flight, including charter flights. Snack and beverage menus offer a great variety, but snacks just aren't the same as a full-fledged meal.

In-Flight Amenities

In-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi availability are two more crowd-pleasing features that Allegiant does not provide at this time.

No Rewards Program

Frequent travelers appreciate the ability to earn frequent flier rewards, a service Allegiant has yet to offer.

The best way to learn of current promotions is to follow Allegiant on Facebook and Twitter. Individuals can also subscribe to the company's email list to receive alerts on discounted fares and other special offers.

Expensive Insurance

While it's great that Allegiant offers any travel insurance, the cost to benefit ratio is a little off. A bit pricier than other airlines, Allegiant travelers may protect themselves from fees accrued due to changes and/or cancellations by purchasing TripFlex for $75 per passenger. This feature allows customers to make a one-time change to date, flight or destination for no change or cancellation fees, where other travel insurance policies allow for multiple changes at a lower cost.

The Bottom Line

It's true that Allegiant Air can get the job done and fly you from A to B; there is nothing horrible to report on the airline. Still, its services are just average and don't exactly have us on the edge of our seats. Other airlines offer more features and amenities, often at a lower cost to you.

Allegiant has worked with our company on several occasions for employee and customer travel. While they are relatively inexpensive, traveling with them is a mess. Booking is difficult and cumbersome, often limited, and the staff is unhelpful and usually just refers you to a website to try to solve any issues. It is impossible to have your questions asked. They have even sent us to the airport to ask someone in person about questions rather than help over the phone. Their services are very limited and they are not worth the hassle. I would use any other carrier, even if I had to pay a little more.

I have tried to book multiple times with Allegiant, but have never made it all the way to the final checkout. The original sales price seems so low, but the baggage fee is usually the same price as the ticket. Cant even sit with my wife without paying a fee. I feel like I am being ripped off with the artificially low sales price

I have only used Allegiant once, and it was for a reason. I was doing a simple flight from Provo to Oakland and my flight got delayed an hour and a half. Had to sit on the floor of a tiny terminal and there wasn't much communication as to when we were expected to leave or what the process would be from there. They also don't have many options for flights so you're really bound to a tight schedule.

Have only flown one time and not sure will fly again. Don't enjoy being nickel and dimed for every little item. The employees aren't very helpful and informative when changes need to be made.

Allegiant Air is a company that sports lower costs while still providing decent services. I have flown Allegiant on my way to Phoenix and though it was not the highest quality, it got me there. If you are looking to save money, I would recommend giving it a go.

You get what you pay for. Low prices but not your usual flying experience. Everything is an added cost and the flights are packed with little leg room. If you are going somewhere for just the day Allegiant would be great but any longer and the pricing doesn't make sense. I won't be flying with Allegiant again.

The flight experience is fine, the prices are horrible. I use to love allegiant because it was so close to home and it was cheap but now you have to pay for your seat, A CARRY ON (that is usually free on other airlines), and the ticket? ridiculous. I'd rather fly out of Salt Lake.

We have had multiple problems flying with Allegiant. It is so close and convenient for us to fly out of but with the many LONG delays (sometimes days) it hasn't been worth it.

I flew one time with his airline and decided one time was enough. I did not have a good experience I am flying with them For the cost I would recommend switching to a different airline.

Cheap fares, direct flights. Flight attendants push credit card and do not adhere to their policy of not serving intoxicated passengers

The prices appear to be a good buy but then you pay for seating and baggage. It adds up quick. Limited flight schedule too.

If you want a cheap flight somewhere this is your airline. If you want comfort and luxury, this is not your airline. The staff is respectful, but you get what you pay for!

Very limited service but good prices if you can meet their schedule and are willing to risk having to wait a day to return.

Low budget, low quality airline. They got me to my destination. I wasn't comfortable at all. But, I guess I can't complain since it was cheap.
