The Good

  • Integrates with Other Apps
  • Variety of Fitness Trackers
  • Customizable Dashboard
  • Available at Multiple Retail Stores

Integrates with Other Apps

The Fitbit app integrates seamlessly with several other apps, including Lose It!, MyFitnessPal and MapMyRun. The app offers daily tracking and totals and calculates your individual average and how you progress over time.

There is also a Premium version of the app for the serious athlete, which features in-depth analyses of food, sleep, and activity that can be exported to be shared with coaches, trainers, or doctors. The Premium version will also recommend personalized fitness plans based on your results. And, of course, the app can be accessed from Apple, Android, and Windows mobile devices, as well as Macs and PCs.

Variety of Fitness Trackers

Fitbit offers a wide variety of fitness tracking options, providing trackers for a variety of lifestyles. Whether you want just to track your steps, sleep or more detailed workouts, Fitbit has a tracker for you. Ranging from $59.95 to $249.95, Fitbit provides quality products for a pretty reasonable price.

Listed below are Fitbit's tracking devices:

  • Fitbit Ace
  • Fitbit Charge 3
  • Fitbit Inspire
  • Fitbit Inspire HR
  • Fitbit Ace 2
  • Fitbit Ionic
  • Fitbit Flex
  • Fitbit Flex 2
  • Fitbit Versa 2
  • Fitbit Charge 4
  • Fitbit Inspire 2
  • Fitbit Versa 3
  • Fitbit Sense
  • Fitbit Alta
  • Fitbit Alta HR
  • Fitbit Force

Each Fitbit tracker is unique in appearance and offers different capabilities.

For example: Say you're looking for a simple device that tracks your steps, acts as a heart rate monitor, but isn't too big or eye-catching. You might want to look into the Fitbit Flex 2 (you could also consider the Fitbit Flex, but this may not be easy to find since it has been replaced by the Flex 2). This wearable device is one of Fitbit's slimmest wristbands and offers a variety of features, including the following:

  • Swim-proof — use it for swim tracking
  • Interchangeable accessories — removable tracker fits in bands, bangles, and pendants
  • SmartTrack — automatically recognizes exercise
  • Reminders to move
  • Call and text notifications
  • Auto sleep tracking
  • Silent alarm

The display isn't informative (you'll actually have to visit the app to view your daily activity), but the device is sleek and discreet. The battery will generally last up to five days but will vary depending on your usage, settings, and other factors.

On the other hand, if you want a wearable device that acts more like a small phone. You may want to look into the Fitbit Versa 2 and 3, or the Fitbit Sense.

The Sense is a smartwatch with advanced health-tracking capabilities. You can still track your heart rate and steps, but the device also comes with several tools for stress management, heart health, Sp02, skin temperature, and more. An on-wrist EDA Scan app detects electrodermal activity, which indicates your body's response to stress. The Sense also has an ECG app that assesses your heat for atrial fibrillation (AFib), a common heart rhythm irregularity. You can download hundreds of apps for fitness, sports, games, and more. The battery life generally lasts up to six days but will vary depending on your usage, settings, and other factors.

Overall it depends on what you want and your preferences. Luckily, Fitbit offers such a variety of products that you're bound to find something that fits your lifestyle.

Customizable Dashboard

A major advantage of Fitbit is its tracking software. The dashboard can be customized to quickly check the details you're most interested in.

Available at Multiple Retail Stores

The Bad

  • Proprietary Charging Cords
  • Need the Wireless Dongle
  • Large Recall

Proprietary Charging Cords

The downside of Fitbit products is the requirement to use proprietary charging cords; if you misplace yours, you won't be able to charge your Flex or One until you've bought a new cord (the Zip's 3V coin battery lasts six months).

Need the Wireless Dongle

Additionally, if you're syncing with your computer, you'll need to use Fitbit's wireless dongle. The dongle will plug into any USB port, but it's tiny and very easy to misplace. Replacement charging cords or wireless dongles are only $19.95 each; however, the costs could add up if you tend to lose things.

Large Recall

Fitbit issued a massive recall of its Force tracker in February 2014. After some Force users complained of skin irritation — specifically, allergic contact dermatitis to the nickel content in the core piece — Fitbit issued a voluntary recall on all Forces and offered consumers full refunds. Although the skin allergy affected only about 1.7 percent of Force owners, those that developed it experienced redness, rashes, and blistering where their skin had been exposed to the tracker. No skin complications have been reported with Fitbit's other devices, and the Fitbit Force is no longer sold by Fitbit.

gavel

The Bottom Line

Fitbit trackers are popular for a reason: they're comfortable, efficient, easy to use and come with the support of an outstanding app. Fitbit trackers are also compatible with almost any phone, tablet, or computer. This is a huge benefit in comparison to many of the tracker companies on the market, whose devices are limited in terms of compatibility — if you opt for the Sony SWR10 or the Samsung Gear Fit, for example, you may find yourself needing a new brand of tracker each time you upgrade to another cell phone.

Another thing we like about Fitbit is the variety of trackers available. There is a massive selection of wearable devices that offer a variety of features. Whether you plan on using your Fitbit for working out, tracking your health, or simply as a smaller phone, there is a device for you.

I bought an Ionic in August and by December the hardware broke down - the screen froze on the battery icon, it wouldn't sync, or even do anything. Fitbit replaced it. The second watch they sent has already started breaking - the battery won't hold a charge and it doesn't sync completely. Fitbit refuses to do anything but keep replacing a terrible product. I fully regret buying this product. You can only get things fixed during a work day so if your product breaks you will have to spend a couple of hours online with Fitbit each time you have a problem. As a side note -the women's health tracker was clearly made by a single man (maybe Incel?) who may not even know what a period is - or a female for that matter. The heart rate monitor is often off by +30bpm, and the lap counter generally misses 10-20 laps out of a 2500-3000m swim. They will tell you that they stand behind their product, but only if you are willing to pay even more in time and frustration dealing with customer service.

I've used the Fitbit One, and now the Charge HR. I also have a Microsoft Band which I use full time. My wife has the Charge HR also. The #1 concern about the Charge line is the screen material. It scratches with from literally anything, and repeatedly. I use a wet apply protector and that helps. Fitbit CS will do nothing about this issue. While it has sleep detection, it's pretty much just tracking when the time you lay down rather than the quality. Generally the software is nice. This would be an OK device, except when one experiences the power of The Band, this seems to be an also ran. Also, Customer Service does a very good job of angering clients as evidenced on the Fitbit Forums.

I have liked Fitbit products for years, but my rating has dropped significantly over the past couple months. Fitbit is sending me my FOURTH replacement Flex as we speak, because the first three all have had faulty batteries that do not hold a charge. I have to say, the customer service has been great in trying to send me a product that works correctly, but it is absolutely ludicrous that they keep sending broken products to me. Apparently it's something the engineers are working to fix according to one email I received from customer service but if that's the case, all of the products should have been removed from sale. A known issue with the batteries should be addressed before taking peoples' money. I am pretty annoyed right now and hope they get it right this time.

It doesn't swim so if you live a life rich at the beach, you end up taking it off a lot. Also have to remember to take it off to shower - every time. This gets hard, and you can wind up not putting it back on after your activity for some time - so not all steps are counted. Also, some features are not able to be used unless you have a smartphone - the website does not do all. For example, you cannot challenge friends via the website. So some of the features you might have bought the fitbit for, do not work. Ends up being kinda cool if you have some extra money, but if you swim/beach a lot, and/or don't have a smart phone - this product is not worth it..

I absolutely love the functionality, however am extremely disappointed in the quality of the band. I have had my Fit Bit for less than 6 months and the rubberized part of the face is peeling off. Making it uncomfortable and not appealing to wear. I tried to exchange at the retailer i purchased from and without a receipt was turned away. Reached out to Fitbit with NO answer....I have 3 in my family and have recommended to countless friends who have also purchased. This is literally breaking my heat as I love and advocate this equipment...but can not any longer due to the lack of response.....

I like the trackers, but they have some serious issues with the wrist bands. I have the flex for over a year. Every few months the strap broke in the same location. I recently got a Charge HR. Less then 2 months and parts fell off. FitBit was amazing at getting me a replacement and FAST! I just do not think that a fitness tracker should fall apart so fast or easily. Functionally it is great. Customer service is great. They just need to make them to last.

Bought 2 FB Charges in Febuary Had the FItbit Charge and the strap started coming apart from the main body of the Charge and allowed moisture to get inside (Around JUNE). I have since switched to another brand. My wifes did the same thing (Around August) and allowed moisture in it but she returned it and upgraded to the FB chargeHR and seems fine for now.

I bought a Flex about a month ago and had trouble getting the app to work. Finally got that worked out and last week it quit responding to anything. I emailed the company and was told to charge the battery. Had already done that but did it again. Still nothing. No lights ~ no anything. Emailed them again and days have passed with no response. Not very happy at this point. Have had other trackers that were much better and didn't cost as much.

I received a fit bit flex for Christmas last year. (that would be 9 months ago). I had to get a new band for it, which was not a problem, fit bit sent one right out free of charge! (thank you). The problem came when in about May it stopped holding a charge. It would charge well, I could wear it for a day and then it would completely die on me! Can't charge it, I did follow all the steps to clean and make sure the charger was working properly. I am not able to return it or exchange it at the store they bought it at. What to do?? Very disappointed!

I think the fitbit band design could be better. The clasp that holds it to your arm unsnaps for me all the time I lost one fitbit at work and the customer service replaced it. The new bands seem to also be breaking at the same spot. I guess from taking the actual bit out and charging it the rubber breaks. I like the way the actual fitbit works does give me motivation to exercise. Just wish i bought one of the better bands for your arm. I looked into buying new bands but they didn't make a better quality band for this fitbit I would need to invest another $149.

I have a fitbit flex. had it about 4 months when it stopped synching with computer smart phone everything. I did all the trouble shooting listed and could not get it to work. I emailed the company several times about the issue, but they kept referring me to the website and the trouble shooting. They said it wasn't fully charged, but it was! they finally said they would send me a new one, but I don't know if I will like it if it does the same thing. We'll see.

The fitbit did what it said it would, but I felt like I had to charge it all the time. The strap broke after 2 months & I bought another one. The whole thing died on me after 3 months. I thought it was a fluke, but my husband got one & the same thing happened. I know I am hard on stuff, especially watches & jewelry, but for the price, that isn't very durable.

Bought the Fitbit Force, found it counted steps while I was riding in my truck. My arm was stationary and we were on a smooth surface and my truck doesn't have alignment or shock issues so there wasn't excessive bouncing but it was still ticking off steps. What's the point? Then I got the rash. I took it back and upgraded to a Samsung Gear. I'm now on my 2nd with them. I'll stick with them or a Garmin perhaps but I doubt I'll join the Fitbit family again.

It's good for tracking steps and monitoring your sleep. However the band unless black because dirty easily and the screen scratches so easy. I had mine for infer 2 weeks and it was covered in scratches. Customer service was no help offered me 25% off a new purchase...

I love the idea of a step counter, but have been disappointed in the inaccuracy of my fitbit. I often walk on a treadmill and when I do, the fitbit does not keep any where near an accurate count of my steps. I have tried different methods of moving my arm but the steps still don't register on a treadmill.

Like it except that is makes a terrible rash on my arm. I can't wear it as much as I would like to. They really need to give us another type of band. I wouldn't recommend it just because of this. I can't take it back after wearing and using it. Just stuck with it.

I found the charger and a dongles to be a bit of a pain to keep track of. I prefer the UP by Jawbone. It is more comfortable, had more features, and it is more motivating. I also find it to be a little more accurate in my steps than the FitBit. FitBit is not a bad product I just happen to like the UP better

the fitbit flex worked really good for steps when walking. Problem is my favorite chair is a glider-rocker and it also recorded it when rocking. I could take the fitbit off if I thought of it when I sit down but it is such a hassle to latch doing that several times a day.

I thought I was getting the HR Fit Bit and I did not get it. Very disappointed as that was my main reason for buying one being as I have to keep track of my heart rate. Thus the low rating because the regular fitbit is not doing me any good, not like the HR would have. I have the Fitbit charge.

I was so excited about the getting the Charge HR, but it is not what I thought it was going to be. I thought about taking it back a couple of times. 1. I got a very bad rash on my arms. 2. The charge only last for three day max. I had a zip, but lost it running and I loved it!!!

I have been a little disappointed that I need to input data when I use my eliptical. I actually have to put it in my pocket to get a decent reading, and then it does not track my heart rate because it is not on my wrist. But it does encourage me to stay more fit._ fitbit HR

Lost 25 lbs with the FitBit Flex, then moved to the Force. Returned it when they recalled and ended up with a Basis and never returned. Fitbit was good, but over calculated my steps and couldn't delineate between running and walking, which I like. Not sure how they are now, but I'm not sure I will ever go back...

I have the Fitbit Charge HR, I like everything about it, except the calories, when I workout. I have used another calorie counter and the fitbit and the fitbit is usually 100-200 calories off. I have contacted the company and they haven't got back to me...

I think the band on the fit bit I have is poorly designed it falls off all the time. I have 2 younger kids and picking them up, putting them in a car seat or any thing really I tend to have my band unsnap. Wish a better band was available.

This may be my last fitbit. This is my third one. The straps keep breaking on me. This one has lasted the longest, but is now cracked underneath. Not sure I will be replacing it, unless the company replaces it. Otherwise, I like the alarms on it. Wish, I had the other versions where I can see my heart rate. That is more important to me now.

I have gone through two FitBit Flexes in the last year or so. Both died on me. First, they wouldn't hold a charge and then they just went dead. I love this product, but I can't afford to shell out $100 every eight months for a replacement.
