Family search is by far my favorite genealogies site. It is powered and ran by the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. Such a great, caring organization. It is by far superior to other genealogy sites out there I like how easy it is to use and it’s always fun to find family connections. One of the very best things about this service is it’s absolutely free!

Family Search has been a really cool experience for me! I have been able to really learn about my past, and where I have come from. I love hearing about all of the stories of my ancestors, and seeing the pictures of them. It is nice because they will email you when they find something new, or there is some thing that needs work done. It is a great opportunity to connect with your ancestors, and get to know them better.

I have used the website and I currently have the Family Search app. I love using this app to find out and learn about my ancestors. They constantly update the app to keep it from having bugs and creates new ways to explore my history. One of the neatest things I like to do is find Relatives Around Me. This shows how I am related to people I talk to on a regular basis which I think is so fascinating. I can add new information about my ancestors or even about myself. I love the app and will keep using it!

In my church I was a Family History Consultant and needed a way that I could find my relatives while being organized. People in my group recommended FamilySearch.com so I went home and signed up. I have loved using it to find all my ancestors! I can now do all of their work and have that great feeling that I found their name with the help of FamilySearch.com!

great way to research your ancestors. its a free service to the public. warning: it is addicting and fun. i have learned so much about my ancestors and found out that one of my really close friends growing up is actually my closely related relative. the website is so easy to navigate. there is a family search building in our town you can walk in and have one of the workers help you. they are so knowledgeable and helpful.

I love Family Search! I honestly don't know how to use it very well, but the app is great. I love getting the notifications that my ancestors have been updated - helps me remember them and learn things about them! I also love the recording feature where I can put notes, voice recordings, photos etc. for my own future records! Such a great site and app.

FamilySearch.org is great at giving help with your family history. They give suggestions about how to move forward when you're stuck and don't have enough documents with enough information to keep exploring.

I have my family tree on FamilySearch and love being able to put in pictures and memories plus their sending new ancestors they've found for me. I also am able to do my family temple work there.

Unlike most genealogy, once you upload your family tree gedcom, it won't display the gedcom and you will have to manually enter all the information. I was told there was software that is compatible, but I couldn't find it and the person I spoke to did not recommend a specific program. It is useful to help discover ancestors, but you have to exercise caution as I found this website will list multiple matches. For instance, my maternal grandfather, whom I have solid documentation on from Luxembourg to his death in Ohio, showed some matches, but most of the people had his information incorrect. I also found people listing children from mothers that were older than 50 years of age. The problem with free websites and even pay websites are folks that aren't using logic and source documents to verify their ancestors here. I'm not even sure that the thousands of source data contained in my gedcom uploaded to this site. Great to help start, but please use discretion when using this website. I would recommend building your tree in software and check to see if it will link to multiple genealogy sites to help with verification. I finally gave up when I realized that when I was comparing my family tree to others that it didn't populate the tree on Family Search I had started and that it was actually causing problems with other folks family trees. The site contents are not that easy to understand in comparison to others. I got my initial start on Ancestry years ago, but due to high cost, decided to only use it as needed in the future. I would recommend Ancestry and others over Family Search, but do recommend Family Search to help in identifying individuals, just exercise caution before adding people from this website to your database.

I have just recently started doing family history. I am still learning how to navigate the website but I like that I am able to see what family members are working on what line. I still have a lot to learn but I do love the ease that you can reserve family names so that the work can be done.

Family Search was a little intimidating for me at first but once I learned how to use it I love this site. I really like how I can search or add memories right from my phone when I have some down time. I also love the help they give you by sending you links to possible ancestors. Their site is very user friendly!

Probably the best site for research, but the worst for building an on-line tree. The good bit is the IGI (International Genealogical Index), a database based on microfilmed records from all over the world. The bad bit is its attempt to build a world tree. The site encourages you to create your family tree with them, but your tree is not yours! Anyone can modify it with accurate or completely inaccurate information, trees are even open to vandalism. Trying to keep your tree the way you want it is an impossible task. Another word of warning; anything you add to your tree cannot be removed and is visible to anyone visiting the site (apart from items attached to individuals entered as living). Beware too of information added by LDS members, a good deal of this is speculation with no basis in fact. So, a great site for reserch (with a little caution), but one to be avoided for family tree building!

I find the ability of others to add incorrect info to my tree areal issue with other site only the creator can change. My ggf never cam to this country but someone added a headstone and date of 1945 .Also I do not want to remember my ggp by their headstones but so one went in and added all their headstones pics. I have found the site useful just like to be able it to be MY tree Let me decide who can add to it.

Your site is well-organized. There needs to be way of telling which John Smith are talking about-perhaps birthyear after name? There were a couple time when instead of 20 yrs for generation were twice as many. Even in lg fams unlikely.. I know US too big for local history, but if same property went from county A to county B in 1840, needs to be way for reader to put that in as aside. Thank you!

I use Family Search, but I've never quite mastered the voluminous information on the site. And I like to do "quick" searches, so the Family Search agenda with its huge lists of people with the same names and disregarding my "dates" and "places" for my search person don't always help me find what I'm looking for. I prefer to use Google. Google narrows the search down to closer matches.

This was the very first genealogy search site I used. This was back in the early 90's. I really liked using it, but eventually moved to using ancestry.com more. I have always thought this site was easy to use. I found out several months ago that the international info features were no longer there unless a fee was paid. I also don't like that we cannot see info that might be helpful just because we are not LDS.

Very interesting site and I use after I have confirmed information either in personal or other public records as there are so many people keying information that some have duplicate LDS numbers. When I correct at least I know that MY basic information is correct for those checking for information. I have found many additional records to aid in my family search. I have just ordered my 1st microfilm and am excited to find additional information.

I love family search.org but I have run into a very unique problem with my data. A person I shared my data with made changes and uploaded all my work to the site as his. He did not verify his entries and changed some mine that were verified. I don't know how to get this problem corrected and I called Salt Lake Several times to no avail. The site is fabulous and I hope no one else's work has been corrupted as mine has.

So happy to have a place to look for my relatives and find out more about them! Just this week I used the pedigree chart to find out how I was related to a total stranger with my family's last name. I also love the Relatives Around Me tool. It's fun to go back and look at how your family lines intersect with your friends' lines.
