As a young boy growing up in Hong Kong, Ben Perkins regularly wore white dress shirts for school functions, orchestra performances, and church activities. But when he wasn’t in a dress shirt, Perkins was wearing athletic clothing. Then one miserable, muggy day (while wearing a white dress shirt), Perkins thought, “What can’t I make a dress shirt out of athletic material?” This thought was the start of the company &Collar, which was officially formed in August of 2017.
&Collar boasts that its products aren’t just good for the customer, but also the environment. All of the shirts are made with a proprietary blend of fabrics and utilize upcycled plastics.
&Collar’s process takes plastic bottles and delivers them to a recyclables process plant. The bottles are turned into plastic pellets that are then processed into thread. The thread is delivered to a clothing manufacturer where it is woven into a &Collar shirt.
According to the company, each shirt is produced with the equivalent of 15 plastic bottles.
Additionally, all &Collars shirts are machine washable, moisture-wicking, wrinkle-resistant, and stain-resistant.
&Collar offers free returns and exchanges on all its products (as long as customers return the product within 30 days of the original shipping date). Customers can initiate a return or exchange by simply visiting &Collar’s Exchange and Returns Portal.
&Collar is working with many different retailers to sell its products. Currently, &Collar is working with the following retailers:
&Collar offers free shipping to consumers who spend $100 or more. Consumers who spend less than $100 will have to pay a standard shipping rate of $5.
&Collar is a relatively new company and therefore doesn’t quite have the biggest selection of items. So far, the company sells shirts, ties, and socks. There are only about 8 shirts, 10 sock styles, and 27 different ties to choose from. There is also a question of stock. Young companies often haven’t had a lot of time to stock up on certain products, and it can be frustrating for consumers when the product they’re looking for is sold out.
Currently, &Collar is only working with retailers in Utah and Idaho.
If you’re tired of wearing dress shirts that wrinkle, soak up moisture, and keep in the heat, then &Collar is probably the company for you. Although there isn’t a huge selection of products, the young company sells unstainable but sustainable dress shirts that are made out of athletic material. &Collar offers free shipping on orders over $100, and there are free returns and exchanges.
We're on a mission to empower consumers to make the best decisions and connect confidently with companies that deserve their business.
