Author: Jenna Vasquez
VyprVPN is a VPN service that protects the data of more than two million around the world. The user-friendly apps are available on all devices, including iOS and Android. Users are able to simultaneously connect up to five devices at a time ensuring secure and private connections at home or on the go.
VyprVPN is owned and operated by Golden Frog. Golden Frog’s mission is to design technologies aimed at helping individuals legally access the internet free of government and corporation interference and restrictions. The company has developed proprietary software, called Chameleon, which allows users to combat VPN blocking which is becoming more common, especially in countries which are known for censoring their internet.
The Good
- Data Use Transparency
- Multiple Encryption Protocols
- Expansive Service Area
- Extra Features
- 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
Data Use Transparency
VyprVPN is transparent in its policies and gives explicit examples online about its collection, storage and destruction of customer data. VyprVPN keeps some data for 30 days, which includes:
- User's source IP address
- VyprVPN IP address used for sessions
- Total traffic (which is unlimited and unthrottled)
- Start/stop times of VPN sessions
Golden Frog keeps session data for several reasons, including troubleshooting, billing issue resolution, maintaining compliance with the TOS and handling crimes which have been committed while users were online with a VPN session. User traffic and communications are not collected, nor is a deep inspection of traffic (unless requested by the user for firewall information).
Multiple Encryption Protocols
VyperVPN’s VPN technology safeguards privacy and security with its multiple encryption protocols including:
- Wireguard — Wireguard, the future of VPN protocols, is built with extremely slim code structure and offers the highest level of speed, privacy, and security.
- OpenVPN — OpenVPN is the industry standard for desktops including Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is both secure and reliable.
- IPSec — IPSec is built into most desktop, phone, and tablets. VyperVPN supports both L2TP and IKEv2 on select platforms. It is a good choice for users with devices that do not support OpenVPN.
- Chameleon — Chameleon is ideal for users being blocked in a censorship country, such as China. The technology overcomes censorship by scrambling metadata to prevent deep packet investigation (DPI), VPN blocking, and throttling.
Expansive Service Area
VyprVPN upgraded its servers to give a fast and reliable VPN connection for browsing, streaming, and downloading. The company owns every server that it uses in over 70 countries around the world and provides over 200,000 IP addresses for individuals to mask their location enabling them to stream without limitations, bypass censorship and restrictive networks, and increase online privacy and security.
Extra Features
VyprVPN provides an additional layer of security for any device connected to VyprVPN through the NAT Firewall. This firewall blocks a full spectrum of hacker and bot attacks, which are more likely to occur when using a wireless router to connect to the internet.
VyprVPN also offers a proprietary software product, Chameleon, which bypasses VPN blocking. As more people are using VPNs to connect to the internet and have access to sites which are blocked in certain countries, technology has increased to arrest VPN traffic and block it as well. With Chameleon, user traffic can pass through VPN software blocking products.
30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
If a customer is not 100 percent satisfied with VyperVPN’s services, they can contact customer service within 30 days to request an account cancellation and receive a full refund. This guarantee is not applicable for accounts purchased through iTunes or Google Play.
The Bad
- No Free Version
No Free Version
Other VPN companies may offer a free version of its VPN for consumers. However, free VPN services may have disadvantages such as: ads, logging and selling data, third-party servers and speed issues.
The Bottom Line
VyprVPN offers its customers innovative features through simple plans with increasing savings the longer the subscription. The company, while keeping some data, is forthright with the use of this information and regularly destroys customer data which it has held for internal purposes. What sets VyprVPN apart from other VPN services is its proprietary Chameleon software to combat VPN blocking in countries in addition to multiple other encryption types.
