The Good

  • Graduate debt free
  • Drug and alcohol free
  • Open enrollment

Graduate Debt Free

A unique feature of Victory Trade School is that it does not allow students to apply for federal or private loans as it is based on a social-enterprise model. This model allows students to graduate without any debt through private institutional scholarships. Not a lot of information is provided regarding how the scholarships work, but an appointment with the school's Director of Financial Aid, will explain in more detail. Entering the workforce with a new certification and without any debt is a big benefit to enrolling at Victory Trade School.

Drug and Alcohol Free

Victory Trade School is a great option for those who have successfully completed a drug treatment program and are looking to transition back into the workforce. All HSE students, those who are seeking high school diploma equivalency, must be drug and alcohol free for at least 30 days prior to acceptance. Culinary Arts students must be drug and alcohol free for at least one year and have completed a long-term recovery program or discipleship program.

Open Enrollment

Victory Trade School accepts student applications throughout the year without admissions deadlines. In fact, prospective students can start their education in almost any month of the year. Open enrollment only works if space is available. Victory Trade School lists if it is currently accepting applications on its website along with if male or female spots are available, as this is due to housing availability.

The Bad

  • Required to live on campus
  • Faith-based school
  • Only two programs

Required to Live on Campus

Although room and board are included in the overall cost of tuition, some students may not be too keen on living on campus. This is a downside if you were hoping to save money by living with family or selecting your own living situation. There are three housing residences, Victory House, Victory Square, and Victory Trade School dormitories, which are divided by gender. Student ID cards are required in order to enter. Some other strict living rules include, no food in the dorm rooms and to keep dorm rooms presentable for school tours. A one-month resident candidacy program is required prior to starting either program.

Faith-Based School

Being a faith-based institution is not necessarily a bad thing, rather, prospective students need to be aware that this is a large component of the school. In fact, part of the program qualifications include that students are active in the Christian faith and live consistently with the values of a private Christian school. If this doesn't describe you or you're not comfortable with a faith-based institution, you should consider other options.

Only Two Programs

Only two programs are offered at Victory Trade School, culinary arts and high school equivalency. Admissions requirements vary slightly for each with an application and phone interview required for both programs. If you are seeking a trade school with more certificate program options, then it is worthwhile to look elsewhere.

The Bottom Line

If you are seeking a faith-based, drug and alcohol free trade school, then Victory Trade School is worth looking into. The requirements are stringent as far as being drug and alcohol free and in living on campus at least one month prior to starting a program. Culinary arts and high school equivalency are the only programs offered at VTS. However, Victory Trade School allows students to graduate without debt and even with six certificates for the culinary arts program. On-campus externships and job placement services are also available.
