Employee Self Service
Paylocity allows employees to handle their own time tracking and attendance with the Employee Self Service feature. Users can clock in and out, view their pay stubs, submit time-off requests, and more.
The Employee Self Service is a fantastic feature that allows employees to handle their own needs. If an employee wants to clock out early, they can easily log on to the Paylocity website or mobile app and do it themselves — allowing the HR department to focus on more pressing tasks.
Customized Tools
Through Paylocity's Workforce Management feature, users can take advantage of the company's various time and attendance tools, which include the following:
- Biometric Reader — uses biometric technology to capture employee ID through fingerprints or facial recognition
- Thermal Scan — touch-free thermal temperature scan to assess employee health
- Badge Reader — scans company card credentials to confirm employee ID using RFID or barcode functionality
- Photo Capture — prevents buddy-punching with optional photo capture for employees when they clock in
- Geofencing Tracking — sets location parameters for employees, which only allows them to punch in from predetermined geographical locations
- Attestation Prompts — customizes prompts including procedural reminders or health and wellness checks
Mobile-Friendly Platform
Paylocity's mobile app is one of the best we've reviewed. The app is exceptionally intuitive and easy to use as it lets your employees clock in and out, check schedules, fixed missed punches, and more. The app is free to download and available for Android and iOS platforms.
Integrations
Paylocity currently has over 300 integration partners across 20 different product categories — meaning you should be able to connect Paylocity with other third-party systems seamlessly.

Unclear Reporting Capabilities
Compared to the other time tracking companies we've reviewed, Paylocity doesn't provide much information on its reporting capabilities. The company states that the "Time and Labor dashboard and reports allow users to get the most of their employee data and increase overall productivity."
Unfortunately, this is too vague. Most time tracking software includes a feature that allows managers (or other administrators) to dive deeper into each employee's nitty-gritty details and their project progress. This information can then help determine where employees are spending their time and energy and how things can be improved.
We know that users can view reports, such as a monthly summary of time worked or time off, but more detail than that is not provided.
Pricing Information
Paylocity does not disclose its pricing on its website. If you want to find out more, you'll have to request a demo from the sales department.
The Bottom Line
When it comes to HR and Payroll responsibilities, Paylocity is an excellent resource for business owners. The fact that the software is easy to use and can be used just about anywhere (via the mobile app) is beneficial. The number of integrations Paylocity offers is also a big help to businesses.
However, when it comes to detailed time tracking, Paylocity may not be the best choice. Unfortunately, we don't know how detailed Paylocity's reports are. The company states that there is a dashboard where administrators can view employee data, but we don't know precisely what that means. Other time tracking companies will allow users to click on a department, team, or individual and see exactly where they spent their time. Other companies will even include features such as mouse tracking, heat maps, and screenshots to ensure their employees are staying on task.
Paylocity is a great tool if you simply want to empower employees to manage their own time and attendance, allowing your HR department to spend time on more pressing tasks.
