Alamo says to bring the car back empty (if you select their prepay fueling option) since there is no refund for additional fuel in the tank at time of return.

Toll Prepay Option

Alamo customers do not have a prepay toll option through Alamo's website. If you want a toll pass for your vehicle, you have to ask at the rental counter when you are signing in to pick up your car. This can be problematic if you get to the rental counter and find out there are no more toll passes available. This additional step takes more time and makes checking in longer. Instant Return

During business hours, you have to return the car and keys in person to the front counter. Some car rental companies offer an instant return. This allows customers to leave the car with the keys in it without having to checkout at the counter. Alamo also offers after-hours returns, allowing renters to return their cars to the lot, drop off their keys, and be on their way without needing to enter the rental location.

We always get our car through Costco Travel. On a recent two week stay in Georgia, our rental car was from Alamo. The wait at the counter was minimal, the rental agent was fast and efficient. We had no problem in the garage getting our rental car,. The car was nice. a drove great. Checking the car in was fast and efficient. All went well, until we were leaving our hotel on the way to the airport the next morning for an early flight back to Seattle. We then realized that my wife had left her wallet under the seat of our rental, which we had checked into Alamo at the Atlanta airport the previous day. Luckily, she had her drivers license and a credit card attached to her cell phone and still had her phone with her. But…….insurance cards, ID cards, credit cards, you name it. Everything that would help someone steal her ID. We’ve had friends go through this type of loss and it took a ton of work and agony to try to recover from a lost wallet. We were both sick. The rental car wasn’t from some small town that rented just a few cars per day. This was Atlanta….and on a Friday night. There was a steady stream of rental cars being checked in one after another. It was amazing how Alamo was able handle the volume cars so quickly and efficiently. But we figured that that they would never find the wallet hidden under the front seat, as they quickly serviced the car for its next rental. As we were flying home, I got on Alamo’s Lost and Found internet site. I filled out all of the information that they had requested. I got a confirmation email that they had received my claim. Two days later I received another email from them, stating they had found the wallet and they were asking me how I wanted it shipped back to. We were and are ecstatic. Someone went to a great deal of effort to find the wallet. I doubt this was just one individual. It would take a well organized team effort to accomplish the task. Believe me, Alamo will be at the top of our list for all our future car rentals. Thank you so much for making our two weeks in Georgia have a happy ending. Ann & Larry P

I needed a one day car rental after missing flights. I had to return the car and get back to my hotel. I was traveling with my son with special needs and thought I would have to take a shuttle to the airport and then get the shuttle for the hotel. And it was freestyle cold. Rachelle in the St. Louis office was amazing, saw the situation and had an employee escort me to the hotel. We never got out of the car! Renting a car is renting a car. Going above and beyond and taking care of people is what Rahelle and her mother St. Louis team did.

Alamo Colorado Springs Airport customer service is the absolute best. They are friendly, kind, and forgiving. Especially when their customer (my family) cuts it too close returning the rental car with barely enough time to make our flight. 😳 We made our flight! We are very grateful for their kindness in an especially stressful situation. The pick-up and drop-off agents were both wonderful and so helpful. I've had great experiences with Alamo in the last year. Had a trip to Minnesota and picking up the car from the airport was painless. Had another trip to North Carolina and we signed up for a manager's special which guaranteed us a certain size vehicle, with the possibility of something bigger at no additional cost. We ended up getting a giant Ford F150 that was a blast to drive for the cost of renting a small sedan. I plan on using them in the future.

I recently rented a car from Alamo in Los Angeles. It was a great experience. We checked in at a self kiosk which was really nice as I didn’t have to listen to anyone trying to upgrade or have me add things on I didn’t want. We finished there and then were told on the screen to walk outside and to go in the parking lot and then to pick any car in our category. The car we rented was a 2020, had that new car smell. It was in perfect condition. The process was so easy and Alamo is my new favorite car rental company.

I also travel to a lot of volleyball tournaments around the country and I usually get my rental car through a trip advisor agency or comparison and more times than not Alamo pops up. I started using Alamo for price, but now I know that they also have great customer service and easy in and out service.

I rent from Alamo most of the time that I rent. Their prices are lower than many others and yet they pull from pretty much the same pool of cars. I don't like the high pressure to purchase the additional insurance but that's pretty standard across all of them, so I wouldn't deduce stars for that.
