The Good

  • Task focus
  • User suggestions
  • Pricing structure
  • Alerts
  • Email collaboration
  • Features
Wrike is built around the focus on individual tasks rather than overall projects. Team collaboration and sharing is performed exclusively at this task level. This makes tasks get done faster and more efficiently. Therefore, users who have a small number of tasks with a long timeline duration will find this software more user-friendly than users who need to break up multiple tasks with a shorter completion date. Wrike software gives users the option to suggest new ideas. Each user is given a number of votes they can use to vote on priorities that are most important to them. This allows for greater team morale and helps businesses develop a laser-focus in achieving company goals and objectives. Wrike software also has an affordable and scalable pricing structure. The company provides a free plan for teams up to 5 users with unlimited projects & collaborators. The next step up is the professional plan that allow up to 5 users for $49 monthly. There is also an option available at $99 monthly with an annual prepayment to run a team of 15 members or less with unlimited projects and collaborators. An enterprise plan is available. Interested persons need to contact the company directly for pricing information. When feedback or input is entered concerning a particular task, any user associated with that task is alerted with a small pop-up message in the top corner of their desktop. Users never miss an update and project managers have reported that is feature is immensely helpful in running a well-organized virtual team. Email collaboration in the Wrike software is excellent. Users can comment on and discuss tasks and folders right inside the integration. You can talk to other users directly by simply putting the @ symbol in front of their name just as you would on Twitter. Other task management features inside the software include a dynamic timeline, drag and drop prioritization of tskm and an easily viewable overview of project schedules. An activity stream gives you up-to-date real-time information on how your team is doing. Overall, the Wrike project management and collaboration software appears to be a trusted and reliable solution for businesses of all sizes and types worldwide.

The Bad

  • Time
  • Ease of use
  • Limitations
  • Gantt charts
While the software is built to be flexible in general use, it takes new users considerable time in structuring projects properly and fully understanding the hidden features. To get the best use of the software, it is recommended that you read the support pages on the company website and watch the 20+ video tutorials the company offers. The project management company also provides daily webinars to help its customers familiarize themselves with the feature-rich software and its benefits. Functionality is excellent for users assigned to tasks. However, functionality falls below average in quality for project managers. The overview on tasks is not clear on a higher level into seeing everything that is going on at one time. The more you scale projects and tasks, the worse usability and functionality gets. Previous users report the task system to be a bit clunky in use, especially when it comes to switching views. There are a number of different views inside the software including:
  • primary list view
  • timeline view
  • workload view
Navigating between the different views can be slow and choppy at best. There are also limitations in regards to working with task lists. In order to begin work on a particular task, a user must click on the task and perform an action on the task in a separate view. Gantt charts are slow and awkward and are not really useful overall. User cannot add dependencies to tasks through the Gantt charts. The only way to be able to add dependencies is through the timeline view. Users need to grab a black dot at the end of a particular task and connect it to the task the user wants to attach the dependency with. You cannot set dependencies in any other view.

The Bottom Line

Wrike appears to be a reliable and trustworthy social project management and collaboration cloud-based software service provider. It does take new users a considerable amount of time initially to learn how to use the software properly and can be a bit clunky in regards to certain tasks. However, the company provides plenty of support tools such as daily webinars and video tutorials to help speed the learning curve process. The software is best suited for businesses with smaller projects with long project completion times. The company has over 9 years in the industry and has received plenty of positive reviews. The software can be used by any-sized businesses in any industry type. It is currently used by major brands on an international basis in over 120 countries and has an affordable and scalable pricing model for startups to Fortune 500 organizations.

I love the ability to create as many projects/subfolders and tasks as necessary. The dynamic Gantt-chart which allows you to set dependencies between projects and adjust on the fly allows for very flexible timekeeping. Wrike's support is excellent, 24-7. We use numerous reports which can easily be customised in order to do accurate billing. By creating a custom dashboard with daily priorities employees stay motivated and efficient. The ability to do accurate timekeeping has allowed us to see in what ways we are under-budgeting hours and not invoicing enough for particular tasks. I can highly recommend this program.

We are using Wrike to quickly turn notes into activities and build on the current methods to do a continuous improvement of the processes that were in place before the PMO mindset settled in. Wrike has allowed us to collaborate with ease and to be able to communicate expectations quickly not only internally but also to external contributors. The multidimensional aspect of the folders comes in very handy when your projects are long and transversal on scope and resources. It is very convenient and being allowed to interact directly from the Gannt is a big win.
