The Good

  • Amenities
  • Discounts and rewards
Originally, the Super 8 founders started by purchasing individually owned hotels that were already in business. When the Super 8 founders decided to start building their own hotels, they decided to create a quality experience for guests without inflating prices. While there may be some amenities missing, overall Super 8 locations include almost everything a guest will need during their travels. Just because Super 8 is a "discount" hotel does not mean that their guests do not have amenities to take advantage of. Despite being labeled as 2-2.5 star hotel, Super 8 is known for offering a number of standard amenities to make their guests as comfortable as possible. These services include:
  • Continental breakfast - available for all guests as part of the room rate
  • Wireless Internet Access - free wifi and an upgraded options are available
  • Hair dryers, coffee makers, and other room basics - if a guest forgets something they need, they can also call the front desk to see if it is available
  • Lobby area - guests can relax and unwind in the main lobby area
Depending on which Super 8 location a guest books, there are also some locations that offer additional amenities. Guests will need to check with the specific hotel they booked their room with to see if the following are available at that property:
  • Pool - more often than not, Super 8 properties include a pool or jacuzzi
  • Meeting rooms - for those traveling on business, some locations have conference/meeting rooms available to schedule
  • Restaurants - typically, only the larger Super 8 properties include restaurants
Additional discounts and rewards are available for Super 8 guests as well. Guests can take part in the Wyndham rewards program by enrolling and then earning points for each stay. On top of that, military personnel can save an extra 15% when they book their stay at a Super 8. If guests sign up for the Wyndham Rewards Visa card, they can also earn two free nights at any Wyndham hotel.

The Bad

  • Service limitations
  • Billing issues
  • Pet fees
Super 8 prides itself on their ability to offer standard services for a lower price than most hotel chains. That being said, guests need to understand that while they are saving money, there are some services that are forfeited as part of that discount. While Super 8 does offer the most common amenities to their guests, there are services not available to those who stay at one of their locations. These services include:
  • No dry cleaning: there is not a dry cleaning service in most Super 8 hotels
  • No fitness center: for those who are constantly on the road and need an exercise outlet, Super 8 does not typically have fitness rooms
  • Billing issues: some guests have experienced additional charges for various services
While Super 8 does allow guests to bring their small, medium, and even large-size animal, there is a price to be paid. Those who decide to bring their pet will be required to pay a $10/night fee per animal they decide to keep in the room. This charge is to offset any additional damage or cleaning required due to the presence of the animal in the room.

The Bottom Line

Those who book a reservation at a Super 8 location can expect the following from their stay:
  1. Standard amenities: continental breakfast, wifi, room accommodations, and lobby area available
  2. Extra amenities (at participating Super 8 locations): some locations have pools, conference rooms, and even restaurants
  3. Discounts/Rewards: save a little extra and earn travel points through the Wyndham system
  4. No dry cleaning or fitness center available for guests

Stayed at the Super 8 in Moab, Utah in August. It was very cheap and located conveniently. The room was clean and a good size but the carpet felt like it should have been thrown away a long time ago. The breakfast was average at best. Next time I would spend more money to stay some place nicer. But if you are on a tight budget I guess it will do for a night or two at most.

I have never had a great experience at a super 8 before. I would only recommend them if you're working on a low budget and just need a place to stay. If you're looking for nice quality it isnt a place for it.

The super 8 has truly unbeatable prices for a reason. The rooms were unkept and the sheets were dirty. The room was cramped and crowded and the pool was cold.

Not a big fan of Super 8! We stayed here in Texas and the rooms were very dated and the rooms were not clean. We won't stay there again!

Bed, bathroom, not much else. Great place to stay if you need a cheap place to sleep.

These hotels are old and the furniture is from the 1950's. The bed is hard and uncomfortable.
