JetBlue Airways is one of the leading American low-cost airlines. It is headquartered in Queens, New York, with another corporate office in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

Founded in August 1998, JetBlue is a relative newcomer in the airline industry. Several original employees had previously been with Southwest. JetBlue has a lot in common with Southwest, being a cost-affordable carrier.

Although a low-cost carrier, it strives to provide quality amenities, including in-flight entertainment, TVs in each seat, and satellite radio.

Over 90 destinations are available in the Americas, with lots of domestic US options, as well as destinations in The Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda, Barbados, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, and Puerto Rico.

The Good

  • Discounted Fares
  • Wi-Fi and In-flight Entertainment
  • Baggage Protection

Discounted Fares

JetBlue does a really good job of providing discounted fares for customers. JetBlue does more for its customers than some larger carriers.

We really liked that JetBlue was one of the companies in the industry that didn't have a refundable/non-refundable fare option, meaning that if JetBlue cancels a customer flight, the customer doesn't lose their fare. We found that this was an issue with other carriers, such as Virgin America. If your flight gets canceled, JetBlue will let you change your flight without the flight change fee.

Another thing that we really liked about JetBlue is its policy honoring lower fares. If a customer requests the lower fare 14 days after they purchased their ticket, prior to the date of departure, they can receive the lower fare. However, effective June 30 of 2015, there is a fee based on the fare option selected on tickets exchanged 15 days or more after the date originally booked. These fees are:

  • Blue: $70
  • Blue Plus: $60
  • Blue Flex: $0

Wi-Fi and In-flight Entertainment

We also liked that every JetBlue flight has free basic Wi-Fi, as well as a television at every seat. JetBlue's Wi-Fi is more reasonable than the service offered by Gogo, which charges for basic Internet service. JetBlue has a FlyFi program that lets customers get basic Internet for free, but after that, the Internet costs $9/hour for their premium service.

Baggage Protection

JetBlue has a good baggage protective policy. With smaller carriers, such as Virgin America, we found that the baggage limit liability was not quoted in an exact dollar amount. Some carriers even suggested that their customers should purchase travel insurance rather than guarantee protection for a bag.

thumb_down

The Bad

  • Customer Complaints

Customer Complaints

Customer feedback focuses on individual customer service experiences as well as the updated baggage policy, which charges $25 for the first bag, which used to be free.

Some customers reported issues with flights being changed on short notice and some cancellations and delays associated with plane mechanical issues. Some customers reported delays when calling the JetBlue customer service line.

gavel

The Bottom Line

We recommend JetBlue. We found that their in-flight Wi-Fi is better than some other carriers, such as Delta. We also liked that the insurance coverage and baggage liability was similar to some of the higher-end airlines in the industry. Additionally, the company's flight cancellation policy is very fair for a budget airline.

I was a passenger on the flight #B6358 on August 22nd. The flight was to depart at 9pm. We finally boarded at about 10:30pm and it taxied at midnight. About 15 minutes later, the captain informed us that we needed to return to the gate because the plane was too heavy to fly to New York and would have to stop in SLC in order to re-fuel, and that would impact the flight crew’s working hours. They also mentioned maintenance issues through-out the night. We disembarked the plane at about 12:30AM and were told the flight was canceled. We were directed to go to the check-in area to speak with Jet Blue personnel there. We then had to stand in a long line for 2 hours, with no information provided and all passengers were very upset and were very vocal about it. After 2 hours, we were informed of a flight was scheduled for us for the next evening, August 23rd, flight 8058. There were not other direct flights available to NY the next day (from BUR or LAX). Then waited another hour and a half for a hotel voucher and LYFT service to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel at about 4:30AM, I was informed that I needed to checkout by 12noon that day. The flight was not to depart until 6:45pm and so had to wait in the Lobby of the hotel for the entire day. On August 23rd, the 6:45PM flight was then delayed until 8PM We boarded the plane, around 7:30pm and soon after, the pilot informed us that there were maintenance issues that should have been addressed the night before. The plane finally took off at about 8:30PM and arrived in NY at about 4:15AM. As a result, I had to miss one and a half work totaling about $300, which also impacted my reputation with my employer. This was the most horrible experience I have ever had with an airline. It was not caused by weather and any other “non-controllable” circumstance, and quite frankly, unacceptable. I have been informed by other friends and family that they have also had unacceptable challenges with Jet Blue recently. I will not be traveling with Jet Blue in the future (outside of using the voucher I received), and will be communicating my experience with others. Jet Blue has provided me with a $200 voucher, which I find extremely insufficient based upon what I experienced and lost.

I took a flight with a 7:10am departure where we were delayed on the plane until 11:30am due to weather related issues. Before we finally took off, the gate attendant made a special trip onto the plane to tell us we would all get a $75 credit for a future flight, sweet! It's been a week since that flight and I never received anything from Jetblue. I called customer service and the woman on the phone tells me I won't be credited because it was a weather issue. I expressed my unhappiness with being lied to and asked for her to please make good on the promise I was given and apply the credit. She put me back on hold in the middle of my sentence..rude only to come back and offer me a $50 flight credit. I took it but will not be using and will never fly Jetblue again. What a dumb way to lose a first time customer.

Flight was scheduled for 6:31 out of Charlotte NC had to drive 2 1/2 hours to get there as we are driving down the delays kept coming in over our phones finally boarded at 8:07 only to be told there was an issue with a valve in the bathrooms. Tech came on was trying to fix it pilot comes over the speaker and tells us there is a problem with the valve and normally they could just sign off on this but they had previously had and additional issue so this issue could not be sign off. After sitting on plane for an hour and a half they told us we could get off and stretch our legs. Got back on the plane and they said we were ready to leave, then they were looking for passengers that had gotten off so we could leave. Next thing you know the flight attendant saids the light is back on. Tech comes back on the plane once again and he fails again. Around 10:30 the pilot comes on and tells us the flight is cancelled and he is very sorry. We get off the plane only to wait in line to try and rebook for the next day. This took us at least another hour to get up to the agent Catherine and she told us they were bring another plane in tomorrow for all of us that got cancelled yet corporate new nothing of this as my husband was talking with them. Because We dared to question her why corporate had no knowledge of this she got real nasty with us. Also corporate was of no help either we were flying home for a death in the family and they did not care at all. Worst customer service I have had ever. Then we go down to get our luggage and my husbands isn’t there he goes and looks in the lost and found room and sees it behind the locked door. He had prechecked his because they were looking for volunteers as the flight was full. Now he has to go back upstairs to the jet blue counter and get someone to come down stairs and open the door to get his luggage. The women at the counter saids your luggage isn’t in there I know because I didn’t put it there. My husband told her I saw it thru the locked door. Finally got our luggage along with a voucher for a hotel for the night . Got to the hotel about 1:30, still don’t know if there is a flight tomorrow or not. Worst customer service will never fly with them again if I could give them a 0 I would

Today I called to inquire about a flight I had booked earlier this month. I went online to check in and it said the flight was cancelled. No notice, no idea why, and 3 angry relatives who have never flown with JetBlue. The first representative was making it seem like I had cancelled the flight, by accident, she kept saying “we’re human and sometimes we make mistakes” but I know that I did not cancel this flight. She pulls up my original reservation and tells me that if I want to rebook my 4 tickets (originally $103 each) I would now be paying $197 each (before taxes and fees). Of course I am outraged by this because I had no notice of this cancellation and the flight I had booked leaves in less than 24hrs. So I was transferred to a supervisor who was blatantly rude. I could not get two words out without being spoken over and then was told that I needed to pay the new price in cash at the service desk and I could not rebook for the previous amount. I had been told that I was responsible for cancelling the flight, then the charge never went through, then it was refunded because they couldn’t verify the card. I was sent on an informational roller coaster with individuals who didn’t seem like they had an answer themselves. After hearing it was an issue with the card I asked what I can do to verify, to which the supervisor said there was nothing we can do but book in person with cash for the new amount. I asked if there was someone else I could speak to because she was rude and she said she was the “highest level that can speak to someone over the phone”. Then added that if I had any issues or wanted a different answer, she can give me an address so I can write a letter that has to be hand written. I simply responded that there was nothing else she could do for me. I was not going to hear any longer that there was no solution. I know there are things that can be done to keep a loyal customer and no steps were taken. We have already paid for a rental car, hotel, and tickets to DisneyWorld for a 5 night stay which cannot be refunded all because of an issue that the representatives did not care to take the time to try to accommodate me in the slightest. In the end, there was no solution or accommodation made. I have checked with the bank and there was no issues on their end or even a flag from JetBlue. They claimed they had refunded the full amount which was false. There was no refund made which led to more complications. Overall, VERY dissatisfied and will likely not use JetBlue again after 4 years of only flying with JetBlue. Another airline is clearly worth my money since JetBlue cares so little for their “valued customers”.

My bag was lost on a flight on 8/29/17, as of today no one has provided me with any compensation, all they have done this far is pass blame to others. Supposedly Juan X-1163006 is in charge of resolving this, but he has never called me, not once. One guy named Cliff even said he was going to send a check out to cover some of our un-necessary expenses but as of today, 15 days and no check. All I want is a resolution so I can spend my time doing more positive things, waiting this long is not fair to me or my family. My view on Jetblue have changed drastically not because bag was lost but because of the lack of customer service.

When we made the reservation over the phone we were told that we only had to pay for only one luggage. When we arrived at the airport we were told we had to pay for them. Luckily our daughter was able to pay for them. Then, our seats were supposed to be on the first row, and on the return trip we were seated on the second row. Our daughter explained to the travel agent that my husband and I have health issues and we needed extra leg room. Coming back home was extremely uncomfortable!! If we need to travel again, we will not use JetBlue!! Our trip was from July 19-August 2, 2015. We traveled from Tampa, to New York City, then to Rochester, New York. Sincerely, Juan and Lydia Lebron.

We flew last month from Ft. Lauderdale to Newark. Upon check in my sister and I were assigned the last two seats on the back of the plane even though out confirmation said 8th row. Apparently I failed to read the fine print where it stated that I needed to call JetBlue to confirm our seats since I booked the flight with a 3rd party,(never heard of before), didn't have to do this with United. There was no overhead compartment available for our carryons, it was occupied with snacks baskets. The flight was delayed as we had to switch gates (?) & the beverages made it to the wrong one. Movies were offered free but headphones were $5. There was also a $25 charge for each piece of luggage. At arrival at Nwk the back door was opened without warning, "the garbage needed to be taken out", seriously! It was 48 degrees, when we left Ft. Laud. it was 85. My sister ended up with a bad asthma attack that night and having to do her therapy twice daily for a week to get better. One of the flying attendants was very choosy when telling people to sit down during turbulence, which was during most of flight. Overall Staff lacked professionalism. If the company no longer offers no fee luggage, have small planes, are constantly delayed & have no regard for the public wellbeing why would I want to fly with them? Just thinking out loud...

It was bad!!! First it was delayed when I was returning. Then we finally take off and an hour or so into our flight captain come on and says that we have to turn back, but we were going to have to fly around for a while to burn fuel. When finally take off it's early in the am. Before arriving in LAX they announce over the intercom " sorry for the convenience and for it we would be getting a free round trip. I land in Los Angeles and about a half hour later I get a email saying that we would be getting a credit voucher emailed to me. Then about a hour after that I get an email saying I get a $124.00 credit. Was not very happy about that. That is why I haven't flown JetBlue again.

We were flying from PHX to JFK and we arrived in JFK and waited for our bags, one came out with a big plastic bag wrapped around it. We went into the baggage services office and showed and asked them why our bag was wrapped in plastic and when we opened it the suitcase smelled like beer. Our bad was soaked. The supervisor came over and offered us a brand new bag, and we filed a claim. At this time I asked the rep to read to me what he put in the notes. When we arrived back home we called the number that they give us and by our surprise they closed out our claimed and started telling us that they think we had vodka in our bag ( we did not have any liquids in our bag at all, and we don't drink) We told the rep over the phone that I had the rep who filed the claim to read what he put in the notes and there was nothing in there about the vodka in our bag. This has been a very bad experience with Jet Blue. No one at JetBlue wants to help us. I have even left several message with the corporate offices and no response yet.

My 16 yr old by himself flew to Portland Or. from JFK he was seated next to a lady with a cat. My son has allergies to cat hair and when asked if he was ok because of his watery eyes and sniffles, he was told by the flight attendent to take allergy pills when he gets home because the flight was filled. After calling Jet Blue they gave him a 50$ credit and would make sure he would not be seated by a pet on the flight home . well on the way home they sat him 12 rows away from a cat carrying passenger and his allergies kick in again. we wrote to them saying what the story was and still two weeks later still haven't heard back from them. we wont be flying Jet Blue any time soon. No way to deal with a minor child they could have seprated them by more then 12 rows.

Used to be my favorite airline. They now charge for bags. Customer service is lip service - no solutions. Many cancellations claimed due to weather actually mechanical. You will not get miles for partnering with Hawaiian airlines. It is a scam. After you have flown, they will tell you the fare was a U fare and not eligible. Booked through JetBlue. At the time of ticketing, they said we would get miles. Changed policy regarding crediting the difference if the airfare goes lower. It used to be until the time of departure. It is now within 14 days of purchase. Not reliable. If you are taking a cruise and want to get to your destination, even if flying a day early, do not book Jet Blue. Other than that, if you get on the plane because it actually takes off on the date and time booked, if your fare does not go lower after ticketing, if you fly with a carry on, if you do not expect your miles from a partner airline, the staff on the plane is great, planes are nice and they have great pilots. Snacks are good too.

Jet Blue isnt bad if you dont care about being on time, or dont count on needing wheelchair assist to be there for you when you need it to be, or when you sit on a tarmac for so long your plane has to go back to the gate again to waste more time refueling, or when you have been on the plane so long but not even taken off for hours after you should have already landed at your destination that you are starving and they dont serve real food and when you have the chance to get something to eat they dont let you..or landing at your final destination 5 hours after you were supposed to isn't an issue for you. Or when you call about it you get 3 different stories from 3 different people that answer the phone and one of them tries to claim it was a weather related issue when there wasnt a cloud in the blue sky between maine and florida. Shame on you JetBlue.

I swear by Jetblue as my only way of flying but yesterday I was very shocked on the performance of the attendants how helped me. The airport I was in N.Y. had extremely never before seen lines to check bags. I was in the line for 2hrs (4:30-6:30am) my flight was for 6:42 to Tampa. I am disabled and made it with to the door at 6:30am the attendant at the door looked at my ticket and said you are at the right place to sit down another attendant came to close the door for the plane to leave so i ran to him and said what happened you looked at my ticket. He stated he doesn't work at this counter I had to yell at him to go and catch the plane he comes back and says my name and i said yes so he let me go to the plane. Once I get to the plane the flight attendant there say I called you it's too late it up to the pilot if he wants to take you she was very rud since i already standing in the plane in front of the pilot and the attendant debating. after all that the plane wasn't full someone was in my paid seat and she says i can only sit in the seat i paid for. Never again

I used to fly jetBlue very often, and recommend it to my friends. But then one day, I checked my guitar, which was in a strong hardshell case, and it did not arrive at my destination with me. When jetBlue finally found it, they sent an extremely rude driver to deliver it, insisting that I wait until after midnight for the delivery, even though I said this was too late, and asked them to come the next day. So I waited until after midnight, and when I received it, I opened the case in front of the delivery person, and saw that my guitar was smashed, as if someone in anger had put their fist to it. The case was not damaged, so it was clear someone at jetBlue took it out of the case and damaged it, and put it back in the case. I photographed the damage on the spot, and tried to photograph the driver, who literally sped off in the middle of the night. It was a truly scarey experience. I took my damaged guitar to a professional music shop in New York who wrote me an estimate for repair, and when I presented this documentation to jetBlue, along with before and after photographs, I received the most unfriendly runaround I have ever experienced. After numerous calls and emails and false promises, I finally gave up, and bought a new guitar. Since that experience, I have stopped flying jetBlue. It's too bad, because if you look at my history, I used to fly jetBlue quite often, on a regular basis.

I BOUGHT JetBlue airline tickets at a charity auction. The two tickets were good for one year anywhere that JetBlue flew on space available. The rules did not state the trip or reservation had to be made in advance by so many days. I used one ticket. When I tried to use the other ticket 30 days before the ticket expired. I couldn't get a flight to anywhere I wanted to fly. The agent told me as long as the reservation is made by the expiration date I was good. When I gave the ticket to my cousin (which I could under the terms) and she tried to use it the agent claimed the reservation AND trip had to be taken before the year was up and there was not enough time. Not only do the terms depend on the JB agent, but I paid for those tickets.

Fly attendants extremely rude, they rolled their eyes so much it was very upsetting. One fly attendant kicked a napkin all the way back to the plane instead of picking it up saying the garbage does not belong on the floor. Not polite when asking for orders, for example one flight attendant said, this is all we have so what do you want. Umm ok, to make matters worse we were stuck in a flight for almost 5 hours with a screaming crying child.

Horrible. After a 3 hour delay I boarded the plane and asked attendant Devin what drinks would be compted. She proceeded to raise her voice telling me I was rude since I walked in. ??? Even the woman next to me didn’t understand her attitude to me that was not deserved. The plane landed and I was approached by police. She called the cops on me for nothing, and they did nothing since the woman next to me heard the whole thing and was next to me the whole time. July 1, 2019 Boston to Salt Lake City. DEVIN. I had a flight booked with JetBlue. On the morning of leaving I got an automated message that there was maintenance being done on the plane and that the flight was cancelled. I had Disneyland and Sea World tickets for specific days already booked, a car rental, hotel, etc. JetBlue refused to try and help me find another flight or compensate me for the hundreds of dollars I had to spend because of booking another flight with a different carrier at the last minute. Terrible, terrible customer service!

Paid for Mint for 6:45am Flite from BOS to LAX (6 hrs). Seat was broken - did not recline. No “bed” which is why I spent the money ($550) for the ticket vs 187 for coach seat that would have recline more than my 1st class seat. JetBlue refused to refund me the difference &363. Instead they only offered me a travel credit for a future flight o nJetBlue. That is worthless as I will never fly JetBlue again. They lost a customer for life. I cancelled a reservation that cost more than $363. Poor customer service.

Flew JetBlue to FLL this weekend. Both flight there and back were delated. JetBlue lacks in communication. They failed to update their monitors to reflect all the delays and no emails or text messages were sent to me. We were almost an hour late already and the monitors still said "on time". Last night's flight we sat on the plane with the door closed but did it move for over an hour without ANY updates from the crew or captain. Very disappointed in the lack of communication and customer service.

This morning I assited my wife at the Jet Blue kiosk at Detroit Metro Airport for a flight to Boston. The kisok showed that the first bag was free. Further along in the check in the kiosk directed us to the counter agent. The agent at the counter said that the first bag was $25. I mentioned that the kisok indicated it was free. She demanded $25. Very bad Jet Blue to rip people off like that.

I flew from Boston to Dallas on 9/23/15 and the TV buttons were all smashed. I flew from Dallas to Boston on 9/28 15 and there again the TV didn't work. One of the reasons we fly Jet Blue is because they have TV's. It helps to pass the time. I asked a male staff to help me lift my small bag to the overhead bin and he said "next time check it in." I wasn't happy about that. Next time I will check other airlines for my trips.

JetBlue is a great airlines, but because they now charge $25 a bag for their cheapest flight, I have chosen not to fly JetBlue if Southwest has a similar flight because they still have free bags. I don't fly long distances, just mostly the SLC-LGB legs, and costs have gone up anyway on flights and if I have to pay for bags, I have found that it's more convenient to fly Southwest to LAX and get free bags. The airports are only 30 minutes apart. JetBlue was known for so many years for free bags and this was a huge disappointment and a deal changer for our family.

You have to be kidding me this airline sucks, they don't give the miles they promise, they make promises they can't keep, they strand passengers at airports and also cancel flights blaming the airport when they have mechanical breakdowns just so they don't have to give refunds. I had a nightmare experience and posted it on your FB page with the video . Also called and no help at all . I have been MOSIAC for years and fly 2 times a month from FLA to NYC . Very saddened at what I saw and experienced . I lost a lot of respect for the company I have boasted about for the past 10 years

First, i took a flight from Orlando to LAX & my luggage was left behind in Orlando. Then, i received my luggage this morning and my iHome speaker was missing. JetBlue sucks. Wouldn't recommend.

I can't believe that JetBlue charges a change fee plus additional fare if you miss your flight due to any circumstances. That has got to be the most ridiculous airline practice ever!!! They will not get anymore of my money.

We were delayed over 2 hours with no compensation or any type of food or beverage offered. I tweeted to Jet Blue and was told "oh well, the delay wasn't longer than 3 hours".

The days of Jet blue being awesome are long gone. I flew them when they were adding a jet every week. They were great then. They are just an airline now, nothing awesome

I do not like jet blue. I think that they are careless and don’t pay attention to their customers. I have had horrible experiences.

They are not the company they used to be. Not happy with the service anymore. They're just like any other airline. Nothing special here anymore.

Past few flights have been deplorable, delays , canceled flights and hardly any empathy. Just turning into an average airline company

JetBlue isn’t the best. When I flew with them for a connecting flight, they delayed my first flight and almost made me lose my 2nd flight

Not real impressed by my experience when compared to Delta. Reasonable airfare.
