The Good

  • Great features
  • Free cancellation
With over ten million nights booked, Wimdu has successfully become Europe's biggest portal for city and holiday apartments. Travelers can discover the best deals for popular cities and destinations. Browse through top destinations to find over 70% off on vacation rentals. Search Feature - Wimdu has a search feature on the homepage of their site, which allows users to specify their preferences for TV, Internet/WiFi, pool, pet accommodations, balcony/terrace, and kitchen. Trust Score - Wimdu has an Excellent Trustpilot Score (9 out of 10 stars). Results Filter - After the traveler enters their desired location and dates on the homepage, they can further filter their search results by price, type of property, and amenities. Web Design - Wimdu's website has a very clean design and intuitive user interface, making it simple for travelers to view and browse rental properties. Free Cancellation - Certain rental properties offer free cancellation. Properties with free cancellation are clearly marked with "Free Cancellation" on the featured photo in the search results. The Wimdu Promise - Wimdu's property and service promise states that every host is verified by telephone, each accommodation is quality assured, and payments are secure via SSL encryption. 2-minute Reservation - Wimdu promises travelers that booking only takes 2 minutes to complete. The Bad

  • Insecure website
  • Customer service issues
  • Cancellation policy
While they are the leaders of European vacation rentals, there are some areas that Wimdu could improve on. These areas include: Insecure Website - There are multiple complaints from Wimdu members that their accounts were hacked. Customer Service - Those customers who had their accounts hacked also complained of poor customer service. Wimdu said they were not responsible for the hacked account but instead blamed a lack of security measures on the part of the customer. Wimdu also suggested the customer change their email and Wimdu account passwords to avoid getting hacked again. All communications were through email; Wimdu was not willing to talk to the customer over the phone. Website Scrolling - When scrolling down property listings, the property owner's information disappears behind the booking plugin. This web feature makes might cause users to miss the property owner's information altogether and users may think they are not able to contact the property owner at all. German Company - Wimdu is headquartered in Berlin, which may be an obstacle for American travelers as issues with communications and currency may arise. Cancellation Policy - Wimdu boasts a "Free Cancellation" policy, but guests only get a full refund if they cancel their reservation at least 2 days before check-in. If they cancel within 2 days of check-in, they are only refunded 5% of the total price minus the Wimdu service fee.

The Bottom Line

Wimdu is a good vacation rental service. However, there are many other vacation rental services with better policies and reputations. While there have been negative reviews about hacked accounts and poor customer service, there have also been many positive reviews about the company. The decision to go with Wimdu should to come down to whether the guests prefer Wimdu's listings. For those who choose to create an account with Wimdu, make sure to take the proper security measures as there have been multiple cases of hacked accounts.

Wimdu did not refund our money (£675) even though we contacted them within 12 hours of our arrival and offered to give them our reasons for wanting to move,as per their stated policy. They refused to contact us,so we moved, but when we arrived home 4 weeks later we found emails on our home PC saying that our money was not repayable. No reason was given other than Wimdu saying that they had paid the owner and so our money had gone. There has been no request for details of the poor quality of the property or why we had to move - it's obvious they could not care less From the reviews that I see all over the internet I am amazed that this company is still in business!

Our booking, made with the Berlin operation, was cancelled 3 weeks before our scheduled arrival and done without our knowledge or agreement. We arrived in Berlin without accommodation and with our plans for an eight day holiday demolished. The accommodation appeared to have been double booked. But we had confirmation of our booking in print. Our host appeared as dismayed as we were and advised us to stay the night at a hotel and offered to find alternative accomodation. We were in no state to refuse. The property we eventually took did not have the internet which was in fact essential to ongoing planning. Wimdu is blacklisted.

Well, I report my experiences: I am approached by a gentleman who wants to rent my house, checking dates and clear seeing them accept it. after a while I realize that there 'wasn't the synchronization of calendars (never happened until now) and are forced to cancel the reservation. seeking a number for customer support, but there isn't exist the one thing to do its fill in a form and wait (on other sites there are number 24/24, email sites and fax) after 2 days we can delete and send me an email in which I have to pay 82 euro to Windu(15%), ok I think not 'my fault, but that's okay. After a few days a girl contacted me and she wants to reserve the house, but she does not trust because she saw my property with my name and my profile as in my town(Venice Italy) and in New York and wanted to have information to avoid being cheated. I begin to read the review (in several languages), and surprise, almost all the hosts were hacked (as is that'possible? from Years ) and thousands of people cheated the site obviously know nothing about it, and washes his hands. i begin to think I have to pay 82 Euros and you're not able to sync calendars and hackers will wander undisturbed for years without that you do not do anything? Absolutely alarmed remove my property and I decide to cancel the account (in other sites there is' a special area to delete the account when you decide you no longer want to be part of it) on Windu not you have to fill out the same format. Windu I disgust you with all my heart!

What a terrible customer orientation!! I booked a room in Berlin via Wimdu and used my discount coupon. But later on that day when receiving the booking confirmation, I found out that my discount coupon amount was not deducted. I reacted the same day and asked for a correction and to use and deduct my discount coupon. Wimdu only responded after a month and only after I sent a reminder. Wimdu said I made a mistake and that they cant reverse because of procedures...I emailed back and mentioned that it is immaterial who made the mistake because I still have the unused discount voucher to use. Wimdu responded that I did not follow the procedures correctly so that they cant help me. I told them that I made the reservation with Wimdu because of the discount, Wimdu did not care. Their inflexibility is terrible and they still charge their fees to me on this booking.... The booking was made with my credit card. Wimdu could easily credit my credit card, so that is not a difficult procedure. But they claimed that they have to involve the host for this discount, and that cannot be done after the booking is made... What a BS. They dont need to contact the host because they can take the 'loss' themselves and keep the host out of our discussion... This company has a very bad level of customer orientation!!

Do not use WIMDU to book your accommodation. They have false/scam apartments on their website and are very quick to decline the responsibility when a problem happens. The Story: Last month my son booked an apartment in Amsterdam via WIMDU. At the end of the reservation process the website crashed and he was unsure if the reservation had gone thru. Since the only visible contact was an email together with the pictures of the house, my son sent an email to ask if the reservation had been well received. He got a reply from the so called host saying that reservation was OK and several emails were exchanged with questions and answers. When details were settled the host said that he would receive official confirmation from WIMDU with the payment details to finalize the reservation. He then got an email from Wimdu GmbH <invoice@wimdu-payments.com» with the booking confirmation and payment details. The email looked very professional with the logo of WIMDU, a picture and the address of the house, the contact details and the address of the host with bank account details, a Barclays Bank account from the UK. 10 before travelling my son sends an email to the so called host to agree on the check-in details and got no reply from then onwards. When he forwarded the booking confirmation to WIMDU customer service, they replied that the confirmation code and the Barclays Bank account we had transferred the money to was not theirs and that they had removed the house from the website due to "suspicious behavior having been detected from that Host's account". Way too late I have to say. When he asked for a solution and for them to find alternative accommodation, they refused to do so saying that they were not liable. How can they not be liable if they have accommodation on their website without checking if the houses are real? And they claim they have: “QUALITY CHECKED APARTMENTS We're committed to ensuring guests have a quality Wimdu experience. That's why we introduced our Wimdu Triple Check to verify properties are up to our strict standards. 365 CHECK After an initial on¬site check, we continue to spot¬check properties throughout the year, in order to make sure quality is maintained.” The correspondence since then with the customer service, has been a nightmare and my son lost the money paid for the apartment and with no solution of where to stay. When I have asked for the name of a manager or someone I could speak to, to solve the situation I was not given one. they gave me a business address in Germany (very unhelpful) and suggested I contacted the local authorities to report the issue. DO NOT USE WIMDU. It is not safe.

I am a Guest who recently have booked an apartment room from Wimdu.Since it was a first timer I was thinking that everything would be flexible as you book a hotel and people would be helpful and understanding to each other in case of emergency including the Host and the Wimdu representatives which proved me to be wrong unfortunately. After I read the cancellaton policy I was determined that I would be cancelling in 2 days' advance that is why I booked it 2 days earlier before than the start day of the stay. I booked it at around 14.00 pm and wanted to cancel it at around 16.00 pm,only 2 hours later. But the Wimbu representatives did not allow me to do so saying that it would be against the Host policies as it should have been 12.00 am if I had wanted to cancel it and had requested to take back the money. So,this meant that at the time I booked the flat I had no chance of cancelling at all and I was already trapped. I booked for about 5 days but If I had booked 30 days or 1 day it wouldn't have mattered as there is no flexibility and you cannot change the conditions they said. But what kinds of conditions are these? The Host sets such conditions to trap the customers/guests but how about the Wimbu company, how can they allow such strict conditions? They are in fact working for the benefit of the Host and not benefit of the Guest. This is against all of the equality rules. There is no flexibility on the Wimbu representatives either, they repeat the same things over and over again. It is as if they are not there to protect the rights of the Customer or the Guest but in favor of the Host. They copied and pasted all of the cancellation policies in front of me and among these there were the really absurd conditions which said ''(5% of the total cost of your booking, minus the cancellation fee of 66.15 GBP). So,if I wanted to cancel I would only be getting %5 of the total booking no matter how long I booked;1 day or 30 days,it does not matter. Then there is the subtraction of the cancellation fee.Since they would be returning back to me much lower than that amount ,they gracefully deleted the cancellation fee which was higher than the refundable amount. But,I am pretty sure that If the refundable amount were higher than the cancellation fee they would be charging it also. As you can see, there are a lot of strict and unfavorable conditions to the Guest. In my opinion, using this service is not beneficial for the Guest, you can easily find favorable conditions in the area when you opted for Hotel solutions and believe me in any kinds of emergency you can be relaxed and Hotel representatives would be solving all of your problems easily.I would never use this service because of its cheapness as well since you can always find reasonable prices close to the flat rental prices listed here. Not to mention about the cancellation flexibilities when you are in a Hotel, flexible check in and out times.

WIMDU is the worst nightmare there is. I am a host and listed my property in several website including WIMDU.. they took 2 months to place my property. One they place it I noticed that the Rental Amount was 50% of what I offered, so something was wrong. I decided to enter my control panel at wimdu and my password and email was changed. Someone elses email was placed instead of mine using my pictures and all my listing this means that if someone books at wimdu the traveller will be a victim of FRAUD. I tryied to call wimdu and nobody is home no phone number for customer service no nothing is like a ghost. STAY AWAY FROM WIMDU if you can STAY AWAY FROM WIMDU

I have dealt with wimdu as a host & i had the worst experience ever as one of the guest decided to leave after 2 nights of the booking and he took the keys with him and he send them random pictures not from my apartment claiming the bathroom is dirty and wimdu customer support decided to refund him and they didnt send me any money and till the moment i dont have the keys. I contacted the customer support twice they are extremely rude and not helping and make you feel you are ruining their day by your stupid problem. and till now i dont have the keys and i am thinking about making a police report. one of the customer support agents decided to hang up on me & the other agent decided to make fun of me which is something will never happen with Airbnb. Wimdu doesnt care at all about host right, they are guests oriented company and if i were guest i will just send random pictures of dirty bathroom and stay for free anywhere in the world.

Find an alternative to Wimdu. It is one of the most ridiculous companies I've ever made the mistake of using. I booked an apartment in Munich for 8 people only to have the host say that they 'upgraded' us to another apartment. After days of asking to see the new place, I finally get photos and the 'upgraded' place is terrible and only has one bed. Horrible host! Later when I told her that there is absolutely no chance that we were going to stay there and asked if the original apartment was still available, she said “you will not find anything better” and that we should cancel. But when I contacted wimdu about the situation and to get my 2100 dollars refunded, there is complete silence. No phone number and no one to talk to. And it's been weeks and I sent multiple emails. In the meantime, we booked a new apartment through airbnb. All of a sudden, Karla, the host asks if we are ready for our stay. WHAT? She told me to cancel! At the same time, someone from Wimdu finally contacted me and told me that Karla never said the apartment wasn't available, that she wanted to upgrade us and that the original one was available for us the entire time. It was like they were teaming up against me to make me feel like I lost my mind. I pointed out the multiple parts of our conversation where Karla said that we need to cancel the apartment. They twisted it so that it sounded like I made an ultimatum for an early check-in or would cancel. At this point, I was tired of Wimdu and the host and the back and forth emails and asked multiple times to cancel. It never happened. When you call Wimdu, you get an answering machine. There is no real person to talk to. There is no customer service. This whole website is a scam. Do not use it. I made the mistake of using it and threw $2100 dollars in the trash with no remorse on Wimdu's part. There are plenty of apartment rental companies out there that are good and trustworthy companies. Wimdu is NOT one of them. Moral of the story is to run far away from Wimdu and their hosts and their apartments so you don't end up losing significant amounts of money.

We were supposed to stay in a house in Birmingham for a weekend in May. When we arrived at the property it was surrounded by scaffolding and we were unable to park on the driveway as the workmen were ripping off the roof and throwing it on the drive. After 10 minutes of knocking the landlord came to the door with his trousers rolled up... A bit strange. He asked us to come back in 5 minutes. When we returned he had found his socks and shoes and started to show us around. There was no lounge or kitchen as these had not been finished. The carpet on the stairs had been ripped up and there were holes in the ceiling where the roof had failed and water had poured through. The landlord had been ankle deep in water, hence he had rolled his trousers up, using a mop and bucket to stem the tide. We walked out and found alternative accommodation at double the price. We called Wimdu and amazingly we got no response but left a voicemail. Eventually they got back to us and asked us to send through an account of events and some pictures. Below is a copy of their 'amazing' response: "We consider the pictures you sent and evaluated your complaint, and regarding the constructions are outside the house and not inside, we can not say the accommodation was not suitable. Also, the host confirmed you arrived earlier than the check-in time agreed, and the operators where still finishing the works. We consider a compensation of 50 EUR voucher discount that you can use when you want to book with us again. Please, accept this voucher as a goodwill from us. Your voucher code is: xxxxxxx (minimum amount of booking 100 EUR). Thank you very much for report your experience, which helps to build the website everyday." Yes we arrived 30 minutes early than stated - In 30 minutes they would have finished the kitchen, lounge, repaired the roof, removed all water/damp and then finally taken down the scaffolding. This company is a joke and we are taking legal action against them - be warned these guys are truly useless and should not be in business. They offer their customers absolutely nothing.

My experience with Wimdu I booked accommodation in February 2015 through Wimdu in Malta for the summer. The price, Eur 250, was blocked on my bank account. In early May 2015 my host cancelled my booking. I followed Wimdu's instructions and immediately contacted the Support Team– actually several times because apart from automatic replies I haven't heard from them. My first e-mail went about 10 days ago, my last 5 days ago. (The website says they have a 24/7 support service, and that they take cancellation by host very seriously.) My money has not been refunded, no help has been offered, no contact has been made, whatsoever. None of the telephone numbers /e-mail addresses found in various databases on internet work / are answered. What Wimdu does is OUTRAGEOUS! They are a bunch of THIEVES! I am contacting the European Consumer Center.

I have read some of the reviews here and it is a joke. This company is horrible for both the guest and the host. All they want is their fee up front and they disappear. There is no phone number to call and you must write an e-mail. After they have their fee in hand they will pay the Owner only after the guest has been inside the unit.It the reservation is for one year in advance as is on many high end rentals the guest pays 100% up front and the owner waits a year. This after Wimdu has their fee in hand and full use of the money. It would seem that protects the guest but it doesn't. If the owner has a cancelation policy the guest will lose much of what they paid. No one wins with this company except Wimdu. Stay away. There are much more reliable services such as homeaway.com which has a phone number to call 24/7.

Absolutely horrible way of handling payments. I made a booking request. Wimdu took the money from my account immediately when I made the request. The request was refused after few hours. It took 6 days until the money back to my account. Without having the money in my account I was not able to make another booking and I needed one during the following 2 days.

We rented an apartment in Miami this summer, payed in full, received all confirmation emails from Wimdu med all info but when we arrived in Miami THERE WAS NO APARTMENT. Wimdu does not take any responsibilities and they have no idea who is renting out these places, they do not check the hosts or the places. 5 more people/families have been fooled this summer. SO DO NOT USE WIMDU!!!!

Don't use wimdu! I reserved an apartment in Spain which was canceled less than 24 hours later. After that, I reserved another apartment to replace the canceled reservation. Reservation #2 was canceled 3 hours later. Both cancelations came with a message that it rarely happens. If 2 times in less than 24 hours is rare, then this crap company has big problems

It's a nightmare. Booked an accommodation with misleading images so I informed Wimdu but no actions taken and then my booking got cancelled 10 days after booking?!!? Promised a 100% refunded but I received less than I should because of services charge on their mistake?!? My advice to fellow travelers, never use Wimdu, because it doesn't protect its users. It only protect themselves and it's host. Still a nightmare

My visa account was hacked after using Wimdu. They won't even enter into dialogue with me. The person I spoke to at the bank frauds division advised that Wimdu were still trying to process a payment, even though they cancelled the booking themselves about three weeks ago, because the host didn't confirm the booking within 24 hours. Seriously bad 'customer service'. Avoid like the plague.

My wimdu account was apparently hacked and I was told that someone had changed my customer payment details to an account in spain. They rang me on the day after the change was made and said they would authorise payment to my paypal account. nothing has been paid and they owe me £1200 pounds. They phoned me on a german number. I have tried to ring them back and the number will no longer accept my phone calls but just goes to engaged tone.

I am very dissapointed with the review. I book the appartment on 21.07.15. They confirmed my booking, but an hour later the host informed me that the appartment is not available. He offered me another but with much lower standart, so I did't want it. I write to Wimdu to cancel the booking but I get no answer. Now almost three weeks passed, I write to them for several times and get no answer. The worst is that they chareged my card. Now I am realy mad and I feel cheated. I do not recomend Wimdu to anybody!
