Toggl Track, formerly known as Toggl, rebranded in September 2020. Toggl Track is a simple to use time-tracking tool that generates data and lets users know how long they spent on a job and whether it was profitable.

Toggl Track can be used anywhere since it is available via web applications, desktop apps (Windows, Mac, Linux, browser extensions (Chrome, Firefox), and mobile apps (Android and iOS).

The Good

  • 30-Day Free Trial
  • Free Plan
  • Plan Options
  • Simple to Use

30-Day Free Trial

All of Toggl Track's paid plans come with a free 30-day trial.

Free Plan

Toggl Track has a free plan that allows up to five users. This is great for small start-up businesses, freelancers, and entrepreneurs.

The Toggl Track platform easily integrates with tools such as Asana, Basecamp, Trello, Zendesk, Slack, Feedly, Zoho, and more. The Free plan doesn't include all the best reporting features, but you still get weekly reports with PDF and CSV exports.

Unlike many other time-tracking apps, Toggl's Free Plan doesn't limit your number of clients or projects. We've seen plenty of other companies restrict their users to only one or two projects, which can be frustrating if you need more.

The Free Plan also includes features such as the Pomodoro Timer, Idle Detection, and Tracking Reminders.

Plan Options

For businesses and companies with more than five users, Toggl offers other time-tracking plans.

The Starter Plan is best for small teams without a lot of overhead expenses. The plan costs $9 per user per month — that's if you select the annual plan; if you choose to pay monthly, it costs $10 per user per month.

You get all the features included with the Free Plan plus things like Billable Rates, Time Rounding, Saved Reports, Time Estimates, Tasks, Project Templates, iCal Integration, and more.

Toggl's Premium Plan is best for midsize to large companies that need to monitor projects and processes across multiple teams. This plan costs $18 per user per month with the annual plan; you'll bump it up to $20 per user per month by choosing to pay monthly.

With the Premium Plan, users can expect everything Toggl Tracks has to offer. This includes things like Scheduled Reports, Time Audits, Insights, Project Dashboard, Admin Dashboard, Add and Lock Time Entries, Single Sign-On, and more.

There is an option for Enterprises, but you'll have to contact the company for a quote. You get access to all the features, priority support, expert training, and assistance, as well as customizable solutions.

Simple to Use

Toggl Tracks is exceptionally proud of the fact that its platform is easy to use. The company knows that people are more likely to use Toggl Tracks if it quickly and seamlessly integrates with their other online tools.

Toggl Tracks was designed with user-friendliness in mind. It only takes a few minutes to install and set up the app (whether it's on your desktop, phone, or web extension). The app makes it simple to track time, run reports, and view your overall performance.

The Bad

  • Expensive Paid Plans
  • Non-Refundable Services

Expensive Paid Plans

When compared to other time-tracking apps, Toggl Tracks is a more expensive option.

The company's Starter Plan costs $9 per user per month. If your company has 10 employees and your billing period is one year, the total cost is $1,080. While it's not outrageously priced, you have to remember that this plan doesn't include all the bells and whistles.

If you want all of Toggl Track's features, you'll have to sign up for the Premium Plan. If we use the same scenario as we did for the Starter Plan, you can expect to pay $2,160 annually.

As far as time-tracking apps go, this might not be the best option if you're a part of a small company with a tight budget.

Non-Refundable Services

If you carefully read Toggl Track's Terms of Service, you'll find that the company does not issue refunds. If you cancel your subscription or end it early, you will not be entitled to any refund (including a partial refund). This is extremely important to know if you plan on purchasing a paid plan.

The Bottom Line

There are many positive things to say about Toggl Tracks; the company does a great job making their app straightforward and easy to use. The Free plan offers a decent number of features (many other companies severely limit their free plans). However, the paid plans are pretty expensive, and there are definitely cheaper options. We recommend trying out Toggl Track's Free plan, see if it works for you (and your team), and if you enjoy it, look into purchasing a paid plan.
