VidAngel launched to help families enjoy shows through eliminating questionable content. The technology allows customers to choose what they want to see or hear when watching streamed television. VidAngel's slogan is, "Watch however the bleep you want". The company was involved in a legal battle in 2016, but became reactive to change their focus on providing filtering services for streaming television instead of movies.

Reputation

VidAngel doesn't have the best public image due to their lengthy legal battle. VidAngel shut down and ceased operations in Dec. 2016 and was reactivated in June 2017 with a new focus on streaming television. This shut down led to a lower reputation quality in the public eye. Since the reactivation, VidAngel has been working to revamp their customer loyalty base and build user trust.

Limited Streaming Library

VidAngel offers a tiny library of content included with your subscription. However, if you'd like to filter a movie or show not already on VidAngel, you must connect another streaming service such as Netflix, HBO, or Amazon Prime.

The Bottom Line

For those who want to enjoy content without all of the swearing and other questionable material, VidAngel is an excellent service to utilize. VidAngel provides an easy way for families or children to filter out harsh language, violence, sexual themes, etc. And customers are able to watch VidAngel through a wide variety of streaming devices at an affordable price.

VIDANGEL IS AWESOME. For the past year, I would say that this is our family's best purchase. They have a pretty good selection of content that is constantly improving. You can also search for a movie and if they don't have it then you can request that they purchase it. If enough people do that, then they do and this has happened twice in the past month for us. It's worth a dollar or 2 just to not have to hear Blasphemy twice in a movie which sadly can happen even more in a Disney show let alone every thing else. Bottom line, we love it IN REGARDS TO BRAD'S COMMENTS BELOW. I may be wrong, however I believe he may not have understood exactly how it works. In order to Watch a movie on VidAngel, you MUST own it. Pay $20 and then sell back for $19 which costs you $1. Our family just finished watching 2 movies at the same time and you can not own 2 movies at once for $20. This means that while my wife and I paid for 1 movie and started watching it we had $ZERO in our account and when the kids wanted to watch a different movie we had to buy that one as well. At the end of that night we would have $38 left which is $19 X 2 and if we only watched 1 movie at a time we would not be charged for the next 18 movies. Now I know that that might not have been the exact situation for Brad, however some people will want to understand that if you want to watch 2 movies at the same time, then you need to own both at the same time.

VidAngel is a great service for discriminating viewers. Rather than allow anything Hollywood sticks in their productions into my home, I can easily filter out the profanity I wouldn't allow from my own family. Even TV shows on services like Netflix on purchased DVDs contain F-bombs that were not included when originally aired. Now I can watch these shows without the added garbage that producers mistakenly think we all want. I don't give it a 10 because the playback features are lacking. For example, it doesn't remember where you left off if you stop watching and want to resume later. Also, the search function often gives you strange results. You have to enter an entire word or two from the title before it shows up in the results list. Search only includes Movies and not TV shows, which isn't a big deal right now because there are only about 20 TV titles available. I'm looking forward to improvements but, willing to deal with what's lacking because of all that I get that other streaming services don't offer (like price and filtering). Keep up the good work VidAngel. You are a welcome breath of cleaned up aire :)

Finally a service where I can be in control. My wife and I love the ability for us to pick and choose what we would like to see. Now the time of watching awkward love scenes with your parents or in-laws is over! My only issue with Vid Angel is a few instances where load times were slow. There was one time where the video stopped working for 5 minutes. After it started working again I received an email from Vid Angel letting me know about the problem. They apologized and refunded me for the movie because of the wait time That kind of service makes the difference. Since then the load times have been much faster.

Love the concept. This is a classic David vs Goliath story where they are trying to shake up the movie industry in a way never done before. The setup on the website was about as good as can be expected from video streaming service. The problem I found with the VidAngel service is any time I was looking for a movie I really wanted to watch, it was rarely available. I am confident VidAngel was/is trying their best on such an uphill battle. I kept the service for a while just because I wanted to see them succeed. I decided to cancel since there was not enough content available to keep my interest. I had no trouble with the billing when I canceled. I am still rooting for their success.

I think VidAngel is a really reputable company. I enjoy their clean family friendly based streaming content. The only thing I don't care for is their prices. Perhaps it's because they are a smaller company and they need to charge slightly more for their services? Either way, I love the content available,

VidAngel has been a life saver! I love how I can watch all the shows I want but make them appropriate for me. One problem I did have was that the movies I would watch, would keep freezing up and taking a while to load. But other than that I really enjoy VidAngel!

The concept of vidangel is so awesome. For the most part they do a real good job censoring things. But in my experience they still have trouble censoring one word instead of the whole sentence. Perhaps adding close captioning can help.

Initial and on-going billing was/is extremely easy and secure. I love the service and the ability to set and alter filters. Customer service has been great and email responses have arrived in less than 30 minutes from my query.

I like vidangel very much. I wish they had more movies to choose from. I can watch movies in PG-13 without the profanity and the love scenes. I am the most skeptical person when it comes to spending my money. But I love this channel. I have recommended it to all my friends and hope they get on board.

This is a very cool streaming service that allows you to filter content like language, sexual material, gore, etc. out of films, to make otherwise unavailable movies family friendly. My family has used VidAngel several times to watch rated R movies at a level closer to PG-13. It does occasionally create weird breaks in the movie where the content you filtered out would otherwise be, but it's a good service for what it offers.

Vidangel is a wonderful company. During the time of the companies inception I loved being able to filter movies and not have to listen to the vulgar and see inappropriate scenes. I really appreciated this. After dealing with the law suit from Disney I feel like they have not been quite the same. I love what this company stands for, but I don't feel like I have been able to get the same service as before. I would love to see a little bit better advertising of what is currently available.

With young kids, VidAngel is a great application to use for movies with profanity & scenes you'd like cut out. My kids want to watch all kinds of movies, so VidAngel comes in handy to those PG-13 they'd like to watch.

VidAngel was a great idea. I loved being able to filter explicit things out of movies. It’s a bummer that they’re being sued. Their new service is good, but not great. I hope that everything can work out for them.

I really like Vidangel and I am glad that they have stayed around despite the law suits. However, my husband and I have had some issues with their new apps and trying to get our filters to stay set. Hope they will fix that!

To be able to watch a movie without content that can corrupt the mind and cause the children to question, is AWESOME!! This is a GREAT alternative to RedBox and OnDemand that cost anywhere from $3.99 to $6 per movie.

VidAngel is great. I wish the industry would accept it more and let them do their thing. There are so many movies and shows that we want to watch but don't because of the content and VidAngel will let us. I love finding shows that we didn't think we would watch but now can.

It keeps up with the most recent videos and is very on top of it to find anything in the movie to edit out for your children underage. It is a great way to watch movies without all the inappropriate parts that just aren't entertaining.

I have been able to use VidAngel at a relatives house. I am impressed with how good their filtering is on movies that has some parts that are too intense for me. It does a really good job of keeping the movie in a cohesive storyline despite little clips being removed here and there.

I don't have Vid Angel anymore but I had it about a year ago and it was pretty nice to be able to watch some shows without certain scenes in it. Its nice that they connect with your streaming services now so you have a large variety to choose from.

I love watching videos on VidAngel because I can have the content that is questionable taken out and I don't have to see or hear it. The only downside to is is that it stops unexpectedly sometimes and it will often ask me the same survey questions after watching episodes.

Watch edited videos for a dollar and bleep out almost anything you want that you find offensive/not appropriate. The downside is that if you don't "return" the movie within 24 hours, you get charged 20 bucks for it. Not so great for a forgetful person like me.

Their services offer the ability to remove porn and vulgarity from movies. It is very unfortunate that the big movie companies feel threatened and had to sue VidAngel to stop providing a VERY NEEDED offering. We enjoyed it while we had it.

Great option if you are looking for filtered and edited movies and shows. I would recommend this service to anyone looking for exactly that. You can feel comfortable knowing your kids are on VidAngel and not worry about what they are seeing like other streaming services.

I have had very few problems with vidangel. Sometimes certain filters can cut out full sentences instead of words which can be frustrating and it can cause you to feel like you are missing out on a part of the storyline, but for the most part the pricing and content is great.

I appreciate this website quite a bit. There have been a few movies, like Breakfast Club, that I was able to watch because of the filters. It is really good at keeping morals up while still allowing us a greater understanding of pop culture. I'm so grateful for websites that protect against profanity.

We love the old version of VidAngel prior to the lawsuit. We were able to watch moves as a family and set our own filters. We haven’t used it much since changing to the new platform because most of our streaming platforms that the work with VidAngel don’t have shows we watch that need filtering.

Our family used a free VidAngel trial. This was a great product. We watched clean movies with the entire family. With our free trial, we got to experience many fun adventures through the big screen. The price is not too bad, but we did not continue this service.

VidAngel has been fantastic! A lot of movies I want to see will have a scene I don't want to watch, or bad language in it. This is why VidAngel is so handy! It allows me to watch movies that I can edit to my standards, or to what I like to hear or see. I have been able to watch so many movies I probably never would have, with out VidAngel!

Was awesome when they were able to edit and show main stream media. But after the legal battles they are probably not doing so hot. Would definitely look that up before spending anything on their stuff. Lots of good religious or high moral films and clips.

VidAngel allows individuals to skip distasteful content in media they might otherwise not enjoy watching. I appreciate that with VidAngel I can avoid immoral scenes in movies or shows that I would not generally view. The process is easy and I am glad that the service exists. Thank you VidAngel

I loved the way VidAngel used to work! I haven't tried it since it had been shut down for a while, but I still love the concept. Too many movies and shows are so vulgar and crude and violent these days - VidAngel is so great for making things watchable again!

I love the concept of filtering movies. Unfortunately because of law suits it has become more limited to use as you now mostly have to connect with apps and it doesn't always work well. I really love the comedy shows on it, always clean and PG! Great for date nights and family nights.
