The Good

The Applicant Manager (TAM) has many powerful features that streamline the applicant tracking process. Here are the core features of TAM:
  • Branded careers page for advertising your jobs.
  • Job board integrations, to post your positions easily while using TAM.
  • Applicant bulk screening.
  • Powerful advanced search features.
  • Email solutions through Gmail, Outlook, and Google Calendars.
  • Compliance management.
  • Powerful reporting features.
For us, the branded careers page was a very important tool. TAM gives you a branded page on their website to host your job listings, which can also be exported to your website with a customized API. We also liked the job board integrations feature. In addition to Career Builder, Glass Door, and other major job search pages, we also found that TAM reaches over 50 job boards. In addition, there are also posting features with Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. We also found powerful candidate screening features. With TAM's robust applicant screening features, your HR manager can screen applicants with:
  • Pass/Fail Questions.
  • Custom Pre-Screening Assessments for Each Position.
  • Make Workflows to Sort Through Multiple Candidates.
  • Merge Duplicate Candidates.
  • Compare/Sort Candidates Through Tables.
The customized workflows and pipelines are an important feature. We found that this tool automatically will bring the most qualified candidates to the top of your list. The communications integrations offered with TAM let you interact with potential candidates. You can create custom email templates to schedule appointments with applicants. You can also easily get applicant responses to keep track of your candidate once they are enrolled in your "pipeline." We found that the Gmail, Outlook, and other third-party platform integrations let you:
  • Schedule an interview with clients.
  • Share certain documents.
  • See applicant follow-up to see whether or not they have accepted a scheduled invite.
Some of the powerful compliance features of TAM include:
  • The ability to capture EEO, Disability and VETS data to meet OFCCP's specifications.
  • Better understand the background of your job applicants.
  • Generate OFCCP reports that display the hiring practices of your company.
We also found that TAM is very applicant friendly. Some of the applicant-friendly features we found include:
  • Applicants don't need to create accounts and log-ins.
  • Your applicants can apply directly from job boards.
  • The search features let applicants find positions that are the best fit for them.
On the user end, you don't need to worry about sorting through duplicate files. There is also no need to copy and paste résumés, as these are automatically generated. We also found that TAM has Google Translate built into the applicant portal, letting a job description and application instructions be easily translated into their own language. Another useful feature of TAM is the implication of your job posting process. If you have opened a position in the past, you can simply repost old job postings. When you use TAM, their 50+ job board integrations will automatically post your position. You still have to copy and paste postings for sites such as Craigslist, however. Finally, we found that TAM has several partnerships with other HR-industry to meet all your human resources needs:
  • People Clues, for application assessment.
  • Skill Survey, for reference checks.
  • Namely, for HRIS solutions.
  • GoodHire, for background checks.
  • Trax Payroll, for payroll management.
  • Right Signature for onboarding.

The Bad

We did have some concerns with TAM. The biggest concern we had was a lack of transparency. We weren't able to get a price quote directly. We also would like to know more about the implementation fee. We also had some concerns with the security and backup capabilities of The HR Manager, LLC. With many of the leading providers in the industry, we were able to review their data centers and backup capabilities directly on their website. However, we still have unanswered questions about TAM's security capabilities. We would also like to see some screenshots and demos of this product at work. With other companies in the industry, we were able to see a demonstration of the app, videos demonstrating how to manage the dashboard, and other important support resources. The website also does not have an FAQ section. Overall, the following are concerns we have with this company:
  • The overall lack of transparency, in terms of pricing.
  • Are the partnerships listed on their page included in one price quote, or do clients have to pay individually for each of these services?

The Bottom Line

Right now, we are hesitant to recommend TAM as an applicant tracking system for small businesses. While we liked the website's integration with job boards and social media, the lack of transparency was a major cause of concern for our review.
