The Good

  • Large chain
  • Standard amenities
  • Wyndham rewards
  • Deals and discounts
Travelodge is one of the largest chains of budget hotels in the world. They employ thousands of people worldwide and continue to expand in terms of building new hotels in various locations both in the U.S. and internationally. Despite being labeled as a "budget" or "discount" hotel, Travelodge does work to provide their guests with what they need throughout their stay to make them comfortable. While each Travelodge is independently managed, there are standard amenities available at most locations. These services include:
  • Comfortable beds: each bed is also fitted with clean and comfortable sheets
  • Free TV and room phones: each room comes with a number of standard channels and room phones
  • In-room coffee pots: also available in the lobby
  • Swimming pools: for travelers with kids, a swimming pool is just what is needed to keep even the youngest guests entertained
As part of the Wyndham branch of brands, Travelodge guests are also able to take advantage of Wyndham rewards. That means for each qualified stay at a Travelodge location, guests can earn points that can redeemed at a later time for free night stays or gift cards. Guests can also browse Travelodge's deals and discounts to ensure low nightly rates. This feature allows guests to book limited time offers for less and save on standard travel accommodations. Additional offers are available for members enrolled in the Wyndham Rewards loyalty program.

The Bad

  • Not geared towards business travelers
  • Pet restrictions
  • Limitations
Travelodge is designed and geared towards supporting adventurous individuals and families. That being said, Travelodge is not as well equipped to satisfy the needs of those traveling for work or guests looking for a luxurious accommodation. Guests who wish to travel with their pets are allowed to do so, but there are some restrictions associated with their pet friendly policy. Policy restrictions include the following:
  • $20/day fee for each pet
  • Limit of two pets per room
  • Pets must be well-trained and behaved throughout the duration of the stay
With thousands of locations available across the globe, amenities are not always available. Guests who have stayed at a Travelodge location will need to double check with each location they book in order to make sure the service is still available at that property.

The Bottom Line

Travelodge guests can earn rewards and save money on travel when booking a room at one of their properties. Those guests who decide to reserve a room at one of the Travelodge properties can expect the following from their stay:
  • Discounted price: travelers can save money on travel accommodations by booking at a Travelodge
  • Standard amenities: includes comfortable beds, free TV, room phones, coffee pots, and even swimming pools
  • Worldwide locations: there are thousands of Travelodge locations available worldwide
  • Low-star rating: Travelodge properties are typically 2-star hotels

For a more budget style place, Travelodge has wonderful rooms and great amenities. I stayed in one when I was on a Church Youth trip visiting Missouri. The rooms were very quaint and clean. The bathroom amenities were also very nice!

Travelodge are generally older facilities and often in need of repair. The rooms often need updating (paint, furnishings, etc.) and the amenities are modest. The Travelodge units I am familiar with are often not located in convenient locations. If price is a driving factor, Travelodge is a good option but if quality is at all important, I have found other options more worth the money.

Stayed at the Travelodge in Oceanside, CA with my wife last year. It was pretty rough. We found like 7 live cockroaches in our room, which made it difficult to sleep at night. The room was really cheap though, so I guess that you get what you pay for.

I've stayed at two different Travelodges and they were both pretty dirty and dingy. It's a cheap hotel so you can't really expect much, but I wouldn't recommend spending more than a day here.

The Travelodge I stayed in was not impressive and the only reason I stayed there was there was no room at the other hotels because of some convention or something. The staff were less than polite and the room was old.

janice pan ,

This was a good room for us to rest during our drive. Breakfast was ok, pretty small and the room was small and a little old but still fine.

Adequate place to stay when you need a bed to sleep in and rest for the night. Nothing really fancy about this place.
