The biggest draw to Motel 6 is the price. Each location strives to provide discounted rates as an alternative option to travelers. With standard services, guests can expect to save some extra money when booking a Motel 6 room. While Motel 6 is not an economy or luxury hotel, there are still standard amenities that they provide to guests without steep nightly rates. These amenities are included in the nightly rate and are available at most Motel 6 locations. These amenities include:

Renovated rooms: currently underway at several Motel 6 locations are the renovations of rooms to provide a more fresh and modern look
Pet friendly policies: sevice animals and well-behaved pets are allowed to stay in the rooms, but there is a limit of 2 pets per room
Discounts for AARP and Military members: AARP members and military personnel as well as their families can receive a 10% discount at all of the Motel 6 properties
Children stay free of charge: when accompanied by a parent, kids stay free with family-friendly amenities such as pools and on-site laundry rooms

Motel 6 also offers an extended stay option to their guests. These hotels, known as Studio 6, is a smaller hotel chain that is also owned by The Blackstone Group. Studio 6 locations offer more amenities than the standard Motel 6 location. These amenities include an expanded kitchenette area complete with: refrigerator, coffeemaker, toaster, microwave oven, electric stovetop, and full set of dishes and utensils in all rooms. Despite being a franchised operation, Motel 6 has a standard cancellation policy across all locations. Canceling a reservation can be done online or over the phone. Some personal information may be required to successfully cancel the reservation, but a full refund can be expected if the amount has already been funded.

The Bad

Reservation modification
Room options

Guests looking to modify, but not cancel, their reservation are unable to do so online. Travelers will need to call the location they had previously made the reservation with in an attempt to change or alter their reservation in any way. Since Motel 6 is a standard hotel, and sometimes viewed as "low-end," there are some limitations regarding the floor plan of rooms. When making a reservation, guests will only have three options regarding room type:

1 King, Queen, or double bed: this only has a maximum capacity limit of 2
2 Queen or double beds: maximum capacity is 4
Infants can be added to the total number of persons without counting towards the capacity limit

Bed types are the only room classifications Motel 6 currently offers. There are no suites available to reserve, unless the guest decides to stay at an extended-stay location. For those wanting to utilize the extended stay option by reserving a room with a Studio 6 hotel need to be aware that there are not nearly as many Studio 6 properties as there are Motel 6 properties. Studio 6 hotels can only be found in 15 U.S. states (and some in Canada).

The Bottom Line

With so many independently owned and operated motels, it is impressive that Motel 6 manages to provide similar services and experiences to guests that stay at Motel 6 properties. Those who book a room at a Motel 6 location can expect the following from their stay:

Discounted rates: compared to other hotel chains, Motel 6 is budget-friendly
Standard amenities: basic rooms, pools, and lobby areas available for guests
Addition savings: for select members, save an additional 10%
Extended stay option: available in some states
Limited room selections: not many options regarding floor plans

When traveling with economy in mind, Motel 6 has always been very helpful. They have given us very clean rooms, super low prices and generally a reservation isn't always a requirement. They always have vacancies as we sometimes don't know what city we can drive to. So they are tremendously helpful being located everywhere and for less!

Motel 6 is just an easy access motel with plenty of vacancy and for pretty affordable pricing. They are everywhere, making a spur of the moment road trip easy as they are in many cities across the USA. They have become a favorite because they make overnight lodging a breeze.

About three years ago, my friends and I put together enough money to throw a party for one of my friends for their birthday. The price was very affordable and the staff was very understanding.

This isn't the nicest hotel out there, but they are probably one of the cheapest. If you are looking for somewhere just to sleep for the night and are not needing any of the nice things that other hotels have to offer then this is the place for you.

We stayed at a Motel 6 in Idaho last weekend. The room was clean and the beds were actually quite comfortable. But...there was no soap in the shower! The dispenser was emply, which I thought must have been an oversight. However, no one else in our fairly large party had soap in their showers either. I realize its a budget motel, but no soap...really?? The handle on our sink also broke; it had been glued several times.

While in the military, my husband and I were stationed 14 hours apart. We spent many weekends with the Motel 6 as our "home" when visiting one another. The price was great for our small budget and the rooms were clean, providing us with what we needed to spend time together.

Motel 6 is on the cheaper end of hotels, and as such the quality is a little less. But of the times I've stayed with them, I've had no issues and felt generally safe. Keep those bar soaps comin'.

These are usually some of the cheapest hotels I can find. Sometimes you just need a place to stay and don't want to spend a bunch of money. That said, the ones I have stayed have been pretty basic. The bed wasn't very comfortable and was really tiny. That said, it seemed clean and was really cheap.

If you're looking for a nice hotel this isn't really the place. However, if you're looking for a cheap hotel, this place is pretty reliable. I've stayed here a handful of times and it's great for a party but not so much if you plan on staying for more than a day.

I wouldn’t recommend a Motel 6 for anyone who’s staying somewhere for an extended amount of time. The times that i have stayed there. The rooms are halfway clean, and the customer service is lackluster.

Rooms were clean and fairly quiet. WiFi could be improved considerably. The breakfast was more of concept than a real breakfast.

Motel 6 is a hotel that you get what you pay for. Rooms are not the greatest but provide a room to stay and sleep in for a very low affordable price. Customer service is great too!

The quality of the room is never the best. However, the price always fits our budget. We definitely use Motel 6 when we are trying to save money on a big vacation.

Motel 6 is clean and the staff is super nice, but there are other hotels I prefer over this one. BUT, if you're trying to save a little cash, this works for a place to lay your head and that's it.

I have found the rooms at Motel 6 to be marginal in quality. Few 'extras" are offered and sometimes the walls can be a bit "thin and neighbors can be easily heard ! I have also found that some of the units are older and in need of repair. The big plus about Motel 6 is that they are very reasonable priced.

You get exactly what you pay for with Motel 6. I stayed at a new one which was just fine but very very basic. Don’t expect a 5 star experience, its a cheap (most of the time) place to sleep.

Great if you just need a place to sleep. Otherwise, spend the extra money and upgrade to something nicer. Every time I have stayed at a Motel 6 the walls are so thin you can hear everything going on around you.

I am a frequent user of a motel six when I travel to hike. Great rooms that have been clean and quiet. Awesome

I know these are low cost options, but the hotels are terrible. Our room was dirty with fingernails clippings on the ground, and our socks were dirty after walking on the carpet.

Motel 6 are not as well kept as they use to be. The motel is more run down, but it is a cheaper option which makes it more convenient to stay at.

Motel 6 is very cheap and affordable. It provides with all of my basic needs for a night. It could use some upgrades, and it also isn't the cleanest.
