The Bad

  • Pricing
  • Scrutiny
Best Western's long list of prestigious awards and brand popularity makes it harder to see the reality of the actual hotel experience, i.e. if they deliver on their promises. Guests should be aware that there is also a difference in quality between the economy Best Western and the higher tiered brands like the Best Western Plus and Best Western Premier. With each tier upgrade, amenities are delivered closer to what the brand promises,  with pricing increasing substantially for guests only in the midscale demographic. Amenities promised have faced some friendly scrutiny from customers, such as:
  • Noisy locations in some major cities
  • facilities are not as good as the price
  • You get what you pay for, no more.
  • Small rooms
  • Communal balconies in some locations (limited privacy)
Also to be noted is that promoted amenities are typical at most United States hotels but not guaranteed. Additionally, amenities will vary at International locations.

The Bottom Line

Best Western holds a plethora of accolades in the hotel industry for everything from best website to best customer engagement. They have several brand tiers with increasing levels of quality, amenities and pricing. Guests get the level of quality they pay for. As a global brand with a solid reputation, guests can feel secure in what to expect, although it can vary on location and individual franchise owner standards. The hotel chain's universal appeal comes from its great staff, its convenient locations across North America and several other continents, and its commitment to providing personalized and caring guest experiences.  As the world's most popular midscale hotel brand, Best Western's affiliation with so many partners allows customers to benefit from various discounts like AAA membership.

A group of us stayed at Virginia Beach Bestwestern plus 2809 Atlantic avenue, Had 6 rooms on 5th floor from August 2nd to 5th. We had issues with front desk management about accommodating large groups of people and were presented with rude attitudes by the manager. don't want to name names so that he gets into trouble - The inconsistency of answers and accommodating when facilities were available. The bathroom in several rooms had no shower curtain, the showerhead malfunctioned at times. The towel rod came out. When this was all mentioned to the Manager he said that he did not care and that next year the hotel was going to be renovated. We have been staying at the locations for years and were really taken back this year. breakfast had decent options. but does not accomodate any vegetarian hot food options. you may want to look into it. However, on a positive note, the rest of the staff was good and overall it was still a decent experience. If you have any questions I can be reached on 703-599-9366

I have stayed at the Best Western Plus Country Wine Inn in Santa Rosa California since 2014, between 1 to 3 times a year. Although the hotel remodeled the lobby area, they have left a great many of the rooms in disrepair. I travel with my dog, so I book a standard King, usually first floor, with small patio and walking area into the common area near/around the pool. The room size is great. The small patio, with sliding door exit, is great, but the screen door does not close completely or lock, so no security if want to leave the door open and get air through screen door. The beds are always comfortable with good sheets. Everything else is bringing down the hotel. Microwave: Has to be 10 years old and barely worked with the plate inside broken so nothing moved. Refrigerator, either not cold enough or freezes everything. WiFi is just ok; could be a lot better. Bathroom molding cracked, signs of rotting. Bathroom sink, barely drained. Need soundproofing in ceiling to limit noise from 2nd floor. Carpeting old and torn. Stains on curtains. The rods were broken, I had to manually push the curtains to close them. I left a request for wake up service; the call never came. My last stay made me realize I need to look for another hotel in the area, which there are many that allow dogs.

This year I’ve stayed at over 3 Best Western hotels in different parts of the country. All were different. All lacked caring about the guest and the reason their hotel was chosen out of the many available. Due to the pandemic there was a lack of everything. From one Best Western hotel only having week old muffins with warm will for breakfast to a bag breakfast work .50. Like wow, your valued guess don’t deserve what you advertised online. There was just a lack of even getting towels. Smh. 2021 no more Best Western hotels for me.

You get for what you pay for with Best Western. Cheaper hotel pricing, so inside your hotel room isn't as nice. I had a wall air-conditioning unit that makes a ton of noise, which can be somewhat bothersome to try and sleep. Small bathroom space, counter tops and your pillows are pretty uncomfortable. If these things don't matter to you and you're trying to stay at a hotel for as little as possible, then a Best Western is the place for you.

I have only stayed in one Best Western hotel that I remember and it wasn't the most phenomenal experience. The room was relatively clean, but had obvious signs of wear and tear that made it feel a little uncomfortable and dingy. The pool was the same way. I did appreciate that they had plenty of parking and we were able to easily find a spot next to our room. The customer service was great, no complaints there and the breakfast was average. Overall, it was kind of an average experience. If I were traveling cheap, I would stay there again, but if I wanted something nice, I would probably go somewhere else.

My friends and I stayed at Best Western back in Spring. Covid definitely made our experience different on our stay in AZ (low breakfast quality in grab and go bags value under $2). Also we were only provided with 22ml (.75 US fl oz) shampoo and conditioner for 4 of us to share for 3 days 2 nights. We had to ask the front desk for more, yet we still had to save on how much we used. I wish they could be more considerate. The TV in the room was like from the 80's. It's small and boxed size. You won't be able to see the screen clearly on bed. It was annoying so we basically just turned it on to listen to it. The screen had glitches and the color resolution clearly was not so high (not asking for a 4K, but this can't do). I hope they change it. I liked the standing shower and shower pressure, but the layout could improve (you can see the shower just by standing on the bed closest to the bathroom wall through its vent/window), it's weird. No one was impressed with our stay and the service. It was a OKAY hotel. 3 is the best I can give.

Room 122 has a ant problem so we got moved to room 114 that has black mold on the bathroom ceiling. The front desk lady is so sweet and over worked . She has no help and doesn’t get to get breaks which is so unfair to her . Breakfast eggs were all salt and need more for all the people your feeding in the hotel. Pool was great & prices were good.

I knew they are not top of the line for hotels but I would expect at least bug free room. I told the lady at the front desk that there were bugs in the room and she didn't apologize or do anything for me. I guess you get what you pay for. Rooms facing outside is inviting to bugs. I will never go there again

I just stayed at a Best Western in Phoenix and it was an ok experience. The hotel itself seemed a bit old but the rooms were still clean. I was only there one night, but the thing i did like is they had a free shuttle to the airport which made things really convenient.

We have stayed at Best Western hotels a few times. It is not our first choice when looking for a hotel. The rooms were clean but in one we stayed in i distinctly remember it had a musty smell. They didn't have a free breakfast. I did not feel like the customer service was very good. They were grumpy and they didn't go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.

Best western has some decent hotels. The issue mostly stems from their older hotels having been badly taken care of. Those hotels often smell like cigarettes and caused my parents to have very bad coughs.

I've stayed in several Best Western's. It is a lower end hotel chain but I've found them to be clean and courteous. You just have to know what your are getting into. It is not on the level of Marriot, etc.

Good deals, especially through Expedia, but they get good channels. The couches always seem super stuffy, and the front desk lady at my last stay was quite rude. Wouldn't even show me where the elevators are, and my brother is handicapped!!

These hotels are not expensive, but they often lack amenities other hotels have (e.g. pools and breakfast). If you are looking for a place to stay when you are on the road, I would recommend it. However, I cannot imagine spending more than a night or two at a Best Western hotel.

Best Western is one of the better mid range to low range price options when it comes to hotels. Their are a fair amount of luxuries provided by the hotel so you could see that you get your moneys worth. Do you need noted however the room service and customer service is not always the best.

I admit that Best Westerns aren't nice, but they are my go to when road tripping through smaller towns where other hotels aren't. They normally are a priced below some of the other recognized names, and most of the time you get a clean room and decent breakfast.

Best Western is your average hotel, rates are relatively reasonable and the cleans appear somewhat clean and put together. Most usually have some secondary amenities such as a pool or hot tub, the quality can really depend on where you are.

For a hotel that's on the cheaper side of hotels est Western is pretty good. I've stayed here a couple times at multiple locations and every time my room has been very clean. The pool areas are usually pretty pathetic looking but I never use hotel pools anyway.
