These can be selected for an additional fee after you choose a home warranty plan.

Choice of Technician

Many home warranty companies require that you use their company contractors when you request service. AFC Home Club allows customers to choose their own qualified service technician. If you don't want to select your own technician, America's 1st Choice Home Club will provide one of its technicians that has been through a thorough screening process to ensure you receive the best service possible.

Work Guarantee

AFC Home Club guarantees all parts and labor their technicians perform are covered for the life of your home warranty contract, unlike some other home warranty providers that only offer 30- to 60-day guarantees.

24/7 Availability

AFC Home Club is available 24/7, so you don't have to worry about the company not being available when you need assistance. Many providers are unavailable on weekends and holidays, which makes it difficult if you have a system or appliance emergency and need immediate assistance. You don't have to worry about that with this home warranty service provider.

Online Claims

America's 1st Choice Home Club has an online claims process on its website, so you can submit service requests online without having to call a customer service representative. This makes the claim process quick and easy for AFC Home Club customers.

No Home Inspection

Customers do not have to complete a home inspection before purchasing an AFC Home Club home warranty. Any system or appliance issue that occurs after the 30-day review period is eligible for a claim with AFC Home Club. However, like most home warranty companies, AFC Home Club home warranties do not cover known or unknown pre-existing conditions.

America's 1st Choice Home Club Reviews

The majority of America's 1st Choice Home Club reviews are positive, demonstrating a satisfied customer base. Customers highlight the home warranty company as professional and informative, responsive, and affordable. Customers also noted a quick repair time and reasonable service fee.

Cons

  • Limited Pricing Information Online
  • Three-Year Contract

Limited Pricing Information Online

Although AFC Home Club has an extensive website with detailed information regarding its package options, it does not list specific prices online. To receive the exact cost for each home warranty plan, you need to request a quote online or over the phone. AFC also does not list its average service fee online.

Three-Year Contract

Most home warranty companies require one-year contracts or have month-to-month plan options. AFC Home Club, on the other hand, requires a three-year contract, a hefty requirement compared to other providers, especially if you're a customer looking to try out the company's services without committing for a long period of time.

gavel

The Bottom Line

America's 1st Choice Home Club offers a variety of home warranty plans with basic to extensive warranty coverage and additional add-on options. The company allows you to select your own professional service technician, or you can opt to use AFC's screened technicians. You can select which option is best for you, but keep in mind if you go with AFC's technicians, the parts and service are covered with a guarantee that lasts for the length of your home warranty contract.

AFC Home Club offers online claims, so you can request service online at any time, and the company is available 24/7 for assistance. No home inspection is required, and the company has mostly positive reviews that reflect the company as trusted and satisfactory. However, to receive specific cost information about the annual fee and service fee, you need to request a quote online or over the phone, which may be inconvenient for customers looking to quickly compare AFC prices against other home warranty providers.

Lastly, AFC Home Club requires a three-year contract for all of its home warranty packages. With such lengthy terms when compared to other home warranty providers with one-year contracts and month-to-month options, we suggest looking into other top-rated home warranty companies with less strict requirements.

Initially I liked that they let me use my own repair people. Beyond that, if your appliances are not new, stay away from them. They do not cover all components of the appliances, so things that are more likely to be a problem are likely not covered. Then they prorate so that if your appliance is not new, they pay next to nothing. They offered me $289 to replace my heater. Even though the repair technician said it did not need to be replaced, just because of the age, that is what they were initially going to pay for. They finally agreed to pay $289 toward the cost of an $800 repair. So the proration they use for age will end up giving you a very minimal payment. After that experience I cancelled. They charge an up front fee toward a 3 year plan. So when I cancelled after less than 11 months, I had paid them $833. When you cancel, they use another proration algorithm to determine what of that up front fee you get back. But they subtract any claim payments and charge $75. That works out nicely so that they don't give you anything back if you have the misfortune to make a claim. You can do better than these folks if your appliances are not new. And watch out for the components that they do not cover at all.

I filed a claim because my water heater is leaking. I received an email stating that I could get reimbursed if I find a technician myself. I found a person who could come out today (12/15/2021). In the meantime, America's First Choice sent an email that they have found a technician. This technician could not come out until Saturday 12/18/2021. I contacted America's First Choice and told them I have a person coming out today. They informed me since they have found a technician I would not be reimbursed even though my water is turned off and I can't wait until Saturday. I hope people can see this and not take out a warranty with America's First Choice.

Sent Mr. Powers a message he is not a member of the AFC Home Club, we are awaiting a response about this review that is not meant for AFC.

Mr. Powers,

You have not had coverage with AFC Home Club since 2020. You did not renew with us, we are the only company that always lets you choose your own tech. I am sorry the company you are with is not allowing that but you need to remove this false review and place it for the right people, thank you.

1) The salesman did not adequately answer my questions or explain the coverage. 2) I assumed I would need to have an inspection but the salesman told me I did not need one and that they assume that when I bought the house that I would have made sure everything works. I told the salesman that the house and the AC unit were old but he did not inform me that if it is over 10 years old, they will not cover it; which they didn’t cover it. Nor did he tell me about their pro-rating system. 3) Documentation and website information gives conflicting information about inspections. In the FAQ section of the website it says that an inspection is not required for coverage and that items are covered after 30 days. The system was operational when I purchased the house and the AFC coverage and it was months before the system quit working. But in the Limitations section of the AFC Home-Club terms it says that you will be "required to provide prior proof of a satisfactory maintenance check-up within the last 12 months to receive coverage." This contradicts the spirit of their no inspection needed claim. 4) The coverage I purchased is worthless to me because of the age of my house and it's systems but they refused to give me a refund.

I had three claims that were not accepted due to fine print. My A/C went out and the repairs were not covered because I had not had a tune up in the previous year. My oven went out and they only offered to pay $100 due to the age of the oven. My pool pump went out and they would not cover the cost because I had only had the warranty for just over a month. I was not told about any of these conditions when I signed up for the service. Additionally, they auto renewed my membership after receiving an email that stated my contract had expired and to call if I wanted to set up a new one. I would not recommend this company.

Mrs. Logan,
We are sorry to hear that you were not pleased with your membership services. Please be aware we do send all guidelines and publish them online. It is very important to get your HVAC tuned up as it is a requirement of the manufacturer and overall good for the air quality and safety of your home. It does not stop a breakdown but it does allow for us to catch a failure before it becomes a major issue many times. Thank you.

Terrible just terrible. It so far has taken over a month to get payment back on buying new dishwasher to replace old. Said they sent check yesterday, we will see. On my ice maker the technician told me he didn’t understand why AFC was not paying more for repairs. Ice maker was not working and they did give max on that but another problem caused the ice maker problem and the would not pay for it. Told me that they would only pay for ice maker and not what caused the problem that had nothing to do with ice maker. Told customer service person that I guess that I will have to look for another warranty company and she told me that sounds great. I have worked with customers for a long time and knew that it does not do any good to yell or get upset. Was very cordial to them but this is terrible. Will be looking for another company when contract is over.

Mr. York,
Thank you for your feedback. I have researched your account in depth. Per your records, all 3 service requests have been paid in full or up to maximum limits. All membership guidelines are provided upfront as well on our website. Home warranties are very similar across the industry. In regards to customer service, this complaint has been sent to corporate as we pride ourselves on that service and this is extremely unusual to hear something of this nature. Possibly a misunderstanding? We value your business and a customer service representative will be reaching out once all calls are reviewed. Thank you.

I have twice now been denied a claim. The first time was in violation of the policy given to me when I first paid. AFC, although it is not written, decided my HVAC repair did was not worth it. First they said the unit was too old. When neither of us were able to find where that is written, they changed their mind and said the component wasn't covered. When I showed them that it was, they asked if I wanted to file an appeal? There was no way to convince them that their policy and my situation merited action. This company is horrible! Every time I speak to an "agent" I am put on hold for long periods of time while they confer and answer my question. If I ask another, it takes another 10 minutes for an answer.

All guidelines given at the time of sale are true guidelines, also the guidelines on our site are true guidelines not a sample. There is never a case where the unit is too old, this is what coverage is for. I reviewed your account and see your request. If the unit is failing and a temporary repair is placed on the uni,t prior to being with AFC Home Club, to get the units last use this is not considered a good working unit or preventative maintenance. If you have any problems getting answers to your questions we have managers available from 9 am to 8 pm EST if it is after those hours and you have specific questions about mechanical items or questions a technician may need to explain to you will want to send an email or call during normal business hours to speak with technical support. Thank you for your time and hopefully this clears up any questions you may have.

I purchased this home warranty for one main reason. My husband was a handyman and handled everything during our marriage. He was diagnosed terminal and wanted me to be protected. Working with AFC was a challenge. They never wanted to cover anything. I needed help with my washing machine lid. The hinges broke, they said it was cosmetic and would not cover it. Since when are the hinges cosmetic. If the lid doesn’t close the computer panel will not turn on. My dishwasher was a Samsung and they had difficulty getting a technician to service a Samsung and the distance they needed to travel. I could go on and on but I’ll finish by saying that when I finally decided to cancel my 3 year contract they subtracted any amount paid for repairs off the the unused premium.

We apologize that you were not fully satisfied with your coverage. With coverage, nothing besides a Property Manager can be blanket coverage. We are here for the big-ticket items that would make a lasting impact on your budget. Hinges tend to be between $10-$25.00 which is less than a standard service fee. You will find these sort of items as non-covered. We appreciate your time with us.-AFC Home Club

I originally reported my claim as a broken garage door opener chain. The company’s technician upon further examination found that the failure was due to "a fatigue fracture in the opener…The chain was actually intact, contrary to first appearance." The opener itself is covered under Choice’s warranty. I asked for full reimbursement of what I paid their technician to complete the repairs (as they refused to pay anything when he was at my house and after a full explanation), minus the service call fee of $60. Choice subsequently, and after my complaining to them, offered to only pay the cost of the garage door opener, and denied the labor, I asked why, and the adjuster said, “Because we denied the claim for being a broken chain.” I pointed out that the chain was not broken, to no avail. I got supporting documents from their technician, sent them to them, received one phone call that went to my voice mail, returned the call twice with no response. I have filed insurance department complaints in two states, NJ where Choice is domiciled, and my state.

I am in the market to purchase a home warranty. I filled out the information online and of course my phone rings instantly. The rate online is higher then some of the others and I wanted clarification on septic pumping. Its an add on for $5.00 per month and the septic tank gets pumped once every three years. So 3 years is $180 plus the $85 service fee would cost $265 to pump out the tank, I can call them direct and have it pumped for $200.00. The lady was rude and asked if I was here to argue because she is there trying to sell a home warranty. All of these places seem shady.

Can not give you a good rating due to the poor customer service we have received. We set up original contacts as needed as a convenience to our busy work schedules and some how can not be retrieved. To deny the mistake on your end and not take responsibility is not satisfactory. On top of it all helping to find a technician/Service to work with. The experience has been more than frustrating and us question your creditability.

STOP! Please Read Before you Buy AFC I purchased AFC on July 31, 2019 and I was told it will have a 30-day waiting period, my credit card was charged immediately. The sales agent told me that I could file claims after August 31, 2019. 52 days later, I filed a claim online, got a call from AFC the same day and declined the coverage because I was still under 30-day waiting period. AFC approved repairs at my home. They spoke to the contractor that I arranged a couple times. They gave him authorization to do the work. They told me all I had to do was submit a paid receipt to be reimbursed. I had the work done, I sent in the receipt. Weeks later I do not have my money. I am wasting a great deal of time on phone calls, emails, etc. And I do not have my money.

Please be aware we allow you to choose your own technician but per verbal and recorded calls and or published guidelines they must be licensed. AFC cannot be held liable for repairs or mistakes made by an unlicensed plumber. The service manager is reaching out to you today to go over these items. Fraudulent license numbers were given which caused AFC to open an investigation and deem your tech to be inefficient. No Home Warranty can reimburse services done by an unliscened person.

Worst Home insurance, I was promised services for my pool and in the end the pool robot wasn’t covered as promised when I initially got the insurance. Many supervisors have contacted me about it and no one is able to resolve.

All home warranties cover items in the pool that are built in. No item that can be removed i.e, pool cleaning robot are covered. We cover the mechanical pumps that keep the item working but if there is a failure within that item it had to be shipped back to the manufacturer. AFC refunded your pool coverage and I see this has been completed and the case satisfied.

I was not told at the time of purchase that appliances over 3 years old would not be replaced or repaired.

Horrible. Not renewing. Nothing covered and always pushed back. Vendors were unprofessional too.

There are no age limits on covered items, we will repair or replace with a unit of the same value the current unit in the home has.
