If you have Delta Dental as insurance, then you can pay little to nothing for services. The good thing is that co-pay prices tend to decline the longer you have insurance. They also have good customer service if needed.

Still waiting on hold for customer service - 1 hour 18 minutes. Really? Shame!! And unacceptable! I will be changing dental insurance for my company. It sure would be nice to have an estimate of wait time at beginning of call and updates as time passed. If they have NO ONE to answer calls, they should allow a message to be left.

Guardian seems to be at the top as far as coverage goes. I was disappointed it didnt cover any Ortho service BUT upon looking thru other companies they still have the best coverage so its whatever (most do not cover ortho).

Horrible company. When I went to their website to search for a provider, they gave two choices to select: PPO and some other option. NEITHER was on my card. So, I figured i'd call to understand if my insurance is PPO or the other option. FORGET IT! Their voice prompts ask a million things in order to get to an actual agent. VERY. FRUSTRATING. I told them: PUT THE TYPE OF INSURANCE ON MY CARD! They tried explaining that PPO is the default. FFS. Do they think typing "PPO" on cards is too much ink to pay for!!!?? I wish my employer would drop them.
The Final Word
If you're looking for implant coverage, many of Guardian's plans cover implants. Guardian offers plans with in- and out-of-network coverage and a managed care plan with only in-network coverage.
Delta Dental also offers plans with only in-network and both in- and out-of-network coverage. It stands out from Guardian by offering a fee-for-service plan and a dental discount plan. It also offers retiree plans. If you're interested in a non-typical dental plan or a retiree plan, you'll want to choose Delta Dental.
It's difficult to say whether Delta Dental or Guardian have better group dental plans because Delta Dental offers very little general information about its offerings online. Instead, you'll need to look at its state-specific site or contact the insurer directly.
In contrast, it's easier to get a sense of Guardian's options online. It offers group Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans with in- and out-of-network coverage. It also offers a managed care or Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO) plan in some states. DHMO plans only cover in-network care and can require referrals from your primary care dentist for specialized treatment.
When it comes to individual and family plans, both companies are worth investigating further. It's harder to tell with group dental plans. However, Delta Dental has earned Bests Company's recommendation because it has a higher proportion of positive customer reviews than Guardian.
