The Good

  • Classes and entertainment
  • Great amenities
  • Worldwide cruises to 15 locations

Classes and Entertainment

For those interested in educational pursuits, there are plenty of enrichment classes to choose from. You can learn a foreign language, become a wine connoisseur, or create your own jewelry. Young kids will love the DreamWorks Experience, where they can mingle with well-known characters from Shrek and Madagascar. You can also watch your favorite films poolside.

Great Amenities

Cruise rates cover all meals served in the main dining room. Guests may select from one of two set dining times or reserve a table in advance. Guests will find numerous food choices, from doughnuts to pizza to Asian cuisine. There are standard amenities found on all Royal Caribbean ships, but there are also some unique features that vary based on what cruise is booked. These typical amenities include:
  • DreamWorks Experience
  • Adventure Ocean Youth Program
  • Shore Excursions
  • Playtime for Parents
  • North Star capsule
  • Seaplex
  • Rock Climbing
  • Zip line
  • Wave Simulator
  • Fitness Center
  • Ice Skating
  • Mini Golf
  • and More

Dining Options

Specialty restaurants feature more upscale choices such as steak and Italian cuisine. Additional fees may apply and you will need to schedule a reservation in advance if you want to eat in one of the specialty restaurants. Some cruises also feature Mystery Theater Dinners. Beverages are not included in the price of meals. Beverage packages are available for purchase.

Destinations

Where the Royal Caribbean cruise ships travel to is also another key selling point of their vacation package. While destinations may vary year to year depending on weather restrictions and other regulations, there are common destinations Royal Caribbean typically cruises to. These cruises last anywhere from three to nineteen days and are offered year round. Destinations on these excursions include:
  • Caribbean
  • Bahamas
  • Alaska
  • Asia
  • Australia and New Zealand
  • Bermuda
  • Canada and New England
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Europe
  • Hawaii
  • Pacific Northwest
  • Panama Canal
  • South America
  • South Pacific
  • and the Transatlantic
You will also need to adhere to three separate dress codes while onboard the ship. Polo shirts, slacks, and sundresses are appropriate choices for casual wear. On casual evenings, a jacket and tie is required for men and dresses or pantsuits are acceptable for women to wear. On formal evenings, tuxedos and evening gowns are required attire.

Security

Royal Caribbean International has closed-circuit television cameras located in hundreds of strategic, public locations throughout the ship but not in private staterooms, public restrooms, or private spa areas. These systems are upgraded as new and beneficial technologies are developed. Recordings from these cameras are routinely utilized by our security teams and made available to investigative authorities as requested.

The Bad

  • Protection program
  • Extra fees and charges

Protection Program

Despite that there are no major service fees. Royal Caribbean does charge extra for luggage valet, full service laundry, and internet service. The Vacation Protection package offered by Royal Caribbean is also not as comprehensive as other cruise lines. The protection package includes:
  • CruiseCare Cancellation Penalty Waiver Program
  • CruiseCare Travel Insurance Program
  • Trip delays provides coverage up to $500 per person
  • Accident and Sickness Medical expenses provides coverage up to $10,000 per person
  • Emergency Medical Evacuations and Repatriations provides coverage up to $25,000 per person
  • Lost, stolen or damaged baggage provides coverage up to $1,500
  • Bag delays provides coverage up to $500
  • CruiseCare Worldwide Emergency Assistance Program*

Extra Fees and Charges

Some alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages may also incur extra charges on your cruise bill. Beverage packages are available to purchase in your options. Ships can feel crowded and cramped, especially around holiday vacations. Not all amenities are covered. Also, transfers are available for pre-purchase from the arrival airport to the pier on day of sailing and from the pier to the departure airport on debarkation day only.

The Bottom Line

Royal Caribbean International Cruises have entertainment and amenity options that guests of all ages will enjoy. The destination cruises are affordable for families and those on a budget or seeking a deal on their next vacation package. Older adults will also enjoy their travels on these cruises as well. Activities that are both relaxing and energetic provide fun and excitement for both children and adults. The only downside to cruises offered by Royal Caribbean International is the extra charges for offshore activities and some of the onboard amenities. Overall, Royal Caribbean is a recommended cruise line for customers enjoyment.

My first and only experience on Royal Caribbean left me wanting to return immediately. Royal Carribean bumped it's way up to my favorite cruise line. We like the smaller ships and chose to take a New England/Canada cruise leaving out of Boston. Boarding was very quick and efficient. Our rooms were not ready so we had to take our carry on luggage with us to the buffet... where we were all directed to go to wait. The food was wonderful, there were a lot of choices ..and lots of options to eat healthy. It was well laid out, so there wasn't a lot of congestion. The emergency drill was one of the least painful, and informative ones that I had ever experienced! Understandably they are necessary, but usually long, drawn out and tedious... to the point your mind wanders during the during the experience. Our room was nice, tho a bit smaller than we were used to.. Our room steward was wonderful, friendly and helpful, often going beyond the call of duty. Much to my dismay.... we were only able to get a early dinner seating... I wanted the flexibility to eat when I wanted. Much to my surprise ... this ended up being a wonderful experience. We sat with the same people every night, at a large table. We bonded with one of the couples, spending a fair amount of time with them during the rest of the cruise. Our waiters were dynamic. We could not have asked for better ones. They remembered our preferences each night... and while being very attentive... they each had a great sense of humor, which added to the fun. The food was great. Portions were good. We had breakfast and lunch in the buffet each day, it was varied, and never got old or boring.. which is a rarity on many lines. Nite life and activities were more geared to the 80's 90's- lots of trivia and games. Not much in the way of enrichment or crafts... Alas I had experienced better evening shows on other lines.. these shows were worthy of 2 stars out of 5. We had to be tendered in and out of Bar Harbor, again this was one of the better organized tendering experiences I had. I was sad... that RC was so rigid about us bringing food back on the ship tho. In all fairness we were warned ahead of time, so it was not a surprise. We traveled to 4 ports, all good choices. Let's see.... I didn't mention the demographics... There was a good balance of all ages.. from toddlers to seniors. There were 80 kids on the ship, however you rarely saw them... one of our dinner table companions was a teen, who raved about the teen programs available to her as well as the teen assigned staff. Last, but not least was the debarking.. Again this was one of the most organized least painful that I have ever encountered. We were assigned a group and a place to stay while we awaited out time to leave the ship. We were sent to a lounge where there was fresh coffee, tea and juices as well as fruit and pastries available to us while waiting. It was an overall wonderful experience.Once we were called... we were off the ship in minutes. An overall great experience, that I am eager to repeat.

My family and I took a cruise on RC in 2008, Explorer of the Seas. I'll break my review into sections: Food: Good to very good. The average meal in the main dining room was very good but a limited choice. The "extra" dining was very good as well and worth the extra price. The buffets were just good. Sometimes things looked a little old and wilted. Service: Excellent. The staff was so friendly and responsive. The crew seemed happy to be working there. Other cruise lines I've been on, this has not been the case. The Ship: Explorer of the Seas is now one of their medium sized ships but it is still huge (1100 feet long)... The ship was in good shape, it ran very quietly. No discernible engine noise probably due to the fact that it uses the azipod engines. The ice rink and skating at sea was a lot of fun. There are many things to do on the ship and I enjoyed the fact that we had four days at sea. I loved just being on the ship. The Ports: All the ports were great except for the port in the Dominican Republic. My wife and I like to walk around, fortunately we left our daughter on the ship. Very scary... burnt out cars, people trying to sucker you into buying crazy jewelry, you needed to be accompanied by a "security" person. I think they have dropped this destination off their list. Overall: Our cruise was very good and leaving from NJ was even better. Saved us several thousand dollars not having to fly to Florida.

We have cruised 5 times with RCL. We Did Freedom of the Seas the first two times and they were both Fabulous! The third was Independence of the seas and also fabulous. Then we did Allure and although the ship was Gorgeous, it was a bit big for our liking and we felt the service was compromised due to the number of passengers, but was still very enjoyable. The last one was this past summer on the Adventure of the Seas and it was a great experience as well. We did feel that the drinks offered were watered down due to being poured to far ahead of time, and the ship was a bit crowded for us. We will be taking a another in a month on The Vision of the Seas and looking forward to trying a smaller ship to see how it compares to the others. So Far Freedom is by far our favorite and the service on the Freedom was Superb! We also felt that the pre paid tipping promotes a lacking in service from the staff. We will tip as we go in the future

We have done 6 RCCL cruises, 1 Celebrity and 1 Princess cruise....by far the Celebrity was the best..it is the next ship upgrade of RCCL with Azamara being the high end of RCCL ships....we are trying the Oasis of the Seas on Feb 20--27/2016...this is the largest ship and we are hoping it is worth the extra $$$'s they charge...we have done Bermuda, the Mediterrannean and all of the Caribbean..the last 2 times on RCCL we found the staff not as friendly and the food not as good as our previous trips, so that is when we tried Princess and then Last year Celebrity..like I said we hope this being a new ship things will be better... ie: service , food

I had such a fun time with the unlimited photo package. Every night there'd be several photo opportunities and I got to know who could take the best pictures of me. The package also included the pictures they took of us boarding the ship and the ones at all the ports. Really fun! The service by other staff was pretty good, as well. From putting your napkin in your lap, to person attention from the cruise director. The crew couldn't change the fact that the sea was stormy and a lot of us got sick the last night. The only downside to my trip, was all the little extras. We had to pay extra for soda, Internet, shuttles in port, etc. But then there was always a free food opportunity on-board 24-7.

We've had three cruises with RCCL. The 1st one was an absolute nightmare. We had our then 10 month old son with us and there was no where to change him in the common areas, I was also basically a hostage on the ship because I couldn't attend shows with him, I couldn't go in the pools, etc. No one was willing to watch him during the cruise and there was no real play area for him. There was also no babysitters onboard for children under 1 year and the ones that were onboard were $20 a hour (compared to the $8 an hour they advertised on their website). I can't explain enough how miserable I was on that cruise. The next two I took WITHOUT my children and there were minimal complaints for those trips. I get it I wasn't booking with Disney Cruise Line but it was in no way child friendly. Since I do have small kids, the potential of taking a cruise on a RCCL ship as a "family" is slim to none and get aways with my husband solo is not something we can do easily or affordably.

Sailed on Independence of the sea on 8/30/15 for 7 days. our wedding anniversary cruise. we were given a champagne bottle in our room on the day of our anniversary. Dining room staff--Rajeev and sixitoo from Philippine's was our server who sang and played guitar for us for our anniversary which made it special for us. we sailed several other cruise lines , our 12th cruise . we had a wonderful time at Independence of the sea. Except in St Martin we had bugs in our balcony and in our room, but the housekeeping had spray and changed of our linens by the time came back to our room after dinner. even though some bugs still left in he balcony and we were too afraid to use our balcony most of the cruise, felt waste our money on the balcony and couldn't even use it. Beside the bugs our overall experience was good on aboard he ship. will like to try again Royal Caribbean cruise for out next cruise.

My husband and I, our children, spouses and grandchildren with a total group of 14, took a Royal Carribean Cruise on the Freedom of The Seas in Aug. 2015. Although an amazing first time cruise for most of our family members, we were not aware of additional fees for tips. This was our only complaint,( the automatic 18% gratuity). It was very expensive with a big group as ours. They did not explain this to us when we booked the cruise. Very important to know. It will cost you additional hundreds of dollars extra in just TIPS. This is charged to your credit card on file. Although we purchased the package for each of us to order drinks anytime we wanted, they charge you tips at 18% gratuity for each beer, fruity tropical drinks and wine etc. that you order. Also, you are charged gratuity per person at the dinner table every night. But the service was EXCELLENT from housekeepers, restaurant managers, waiters, bartenders and deck patrol, etc. On a possitive note, We would highly recommend Royal Carribean. It was still truly an amazing CRUISE TO REMEMBER !!!

We have gone on 13 Royal Caribbean cruises, trans Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico and have loved every one of them. We have been with children and gandchildren, which was so much fun. We have usually been alone. R C always seats us a a table with other English speaking couples, from all around the world. We always load up our Kindles with new books to enjoy by the pool, The shows are pretty good, there are usually a couple of good movies which we haven't seen, bar trivia is fun, and there are interesting talks. In other words, lots of things to do. Next May, we are sailing from The Arab Emirates to Singapore, Can't wait.

Cruised 10 times on Royal., once with Carnival. Carnival was our first. We had fun on that cruise it was our 25th anniversary. We are now coming up on our 50th. We along with a group of our immediate family and friends plan to book a cruise for that milestone. I would only book it on Royal. I know a lot of other people who have been on Royal and have sailed on the others, i.e. Princess, Norwegian, HAL, etc. and they all came back to RCCI. Haven't heard much good about Cunard lately, service is not what it used to be and quality is not up to snuff either. I believe they are over rated for the prices they charge, so they're out of the equation for us. We find Royal to be consistent and reasonably priced. Not happy with the new dining venues on their newest ships like the Quantum, so I'll stick with ships that have the traditional dining, early and late seating, same tables and waiters etc. If they go to the new venues on all their ships then I'll go elsewhere. That is a game changer for us. Don't like having to call for reservations and end up sitting with strangers all the time. Once you meet people at a table you either hit it off or you don't. If you don't you can ask to be seated at another table the next night. Never had to do that though. Always met nice people the first night and made friends that we usually still keep in touch with. Love sea days. So does the wife. Royal caters to all ages too, not just the old folks like Cunard and not just to the young folks like Carnival. It's just the right mix of young and old.

We / I have cruised with RCCL 9 times an adding other cruise lines 17 cruises ! which may seem like a lot . however it's not ~ lol ~ We have met people with over a few 100 cruises more . RCCL is a business an they are good at what they do . We have had some great experiences as well as some not so great ones that we will never forget . We are Loyal to Royal now , , as are other's that Love to Cruise . { We are Diamond status as of now which comes with perks } the more loyal ,the more points you build up ! For some they got a bad seed , which then grew into more bad things ! However the same can be said . I met a Young Lady Roxanna who makes the Best Mojitos We / I have ever had ! The most recent past cruise on the Jewel of the Sea ~ The Concierge Diego is a crew member we will never forget . Well mannered / very helpful with little detail's that just made the cruise that much more memorable Also we have made some Great Friends along the way .. As well as some Great Staff along the way . So with that being said , If your a first time cruiser an you fall in love with it , you'll want to retire on a cruise ship ! If not so good a experience , you will be hard pressed to book another . Have A Nice Day ~ J.L.

We went on our first cruise aboard the Allure of the Sea and it was a trip of a life time. From the time we boarded until we left noting but excellent service and the ship was AMAZING. When we returned home we started saving again and yes we went on another Royal Caribbean cruise this time on the Navigator of the Sea and it was wonderful and the ports were so much fun. The staff and crew went out of there way to make sure all our needs were met. So again we are in a saving mode and will be planing another Royal Caribbean cruise we are hooked. Thank you for Outstanding service. Denise Nadeau Texas

We were on Oasis of the Sea in 2012 and had a very huge balcony suite. It was in the middle of the ship. The staff was excellent including our butler and wait staff in the dinning room. The food at the buffet was outstanding. We ate there most of the time. The chocolate buffet was unusual but outstanding especially if you like chocolate. The entertainment was very good especially the comedians and the water show. The Italian restaurant was terrible. The cruise director was full of life and made the cruise especially fun. The ship had 5400 people on board but it was not overly crowed. Ship was very clean. Getting off and on ship was very good. Pictures were reasonable. Did not like being bombarded the first day about drink packages. The concierge lounge was exceptionally nice to have. Due to high wind and waves we had to skip one port but staff kept us busy with lots of activities. Way to go!!!

My wife and I have cruised with Royal Caribbean 5 times and are scheduled to go this September on the Navigator. We have sailed with Carnival and Princess, but Royal is the clear winner. I think the things that set them apart is the entertainment, and innovations such as the rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, etc. We have enjoyed all our cruises but Royal Caribbean for the price is the best thing going. The cruise was on the Oasis, need I say more. Don't make that your first cruise because it will be all downhill from there. We love cruising and feel like it is the best value for vacationers. I would give you a 10, but then you would't have to improve.

This was my first cruise and I loved it! We were on the Liberty of the Seas. We had our 7 month old daughter with us and the staff were always so sweet with her and accommodating to her needs. The food was really good (especially the omelet bar every breakfast) but what made it even more enjoyable was the servers. They also have an awesome full sports court on top that my husband and I loved participating in all of the sports both free play and competitions.

I Loved the overall experience , Ship was clean, Food was superior than other lines I have gone on, the staff was great. It is a better quality product than other cruise lines, but still not sure it was worth the extra cost. The other issue I had was the excess ability of free drink, it was harder than other cruises to acquire. Overall it was a step above.

We have cruised with Royal for over 10 years. We LOVE cruising with Royal Caribbean. We have been on most of the ships except for the Quantum because my family is not a fan of the itinerary. I have almost no complaints except for the food in the dining room however the service that we have always received from the staff in the dining room has always been exceptional. Over the years their menu has declined and that is disappointing, as for the rest of the cruise experience the Royal is second to none.

We are two weeks away from our ninth Royal Caribbean cruise and we truly love cruising with Royal. After a memorable cruise on one of Royals larger ships, the Freedom of the Seas to San Juan and St. Maarten, we set out on the smallest ship in their fleet, the Majesty of the Seas to the Bahamas and Key West, I have to say it was one of the best cruises to date. Looking forward to this next cruise on the Adventure from San Juan to the US Virgin Isle stops, and Martinique.

We are seasoned cruisers, having sailed on most of the major lines. But, we came to Royal for many different reasons. Most being the benefits we receive as well as the way we are treated by all of the Royal employees. Granted each ship is different, some may need an overhaul, there may be someone that rubs you the wrong way. isn't that all part of life. We will be cruising on Royal for 35 days next year and we will love every minute of it.

Have booked our 29th cruise ( not all on rccl),but most have been. We have noticed that the food quality, and choice have gone WAY down, ( they are pushing "specialty, pay extra dining ). the shows lack entertainment value. we prefer Ceelebrety Cruise lines, but they have nothing out of Baltimore anymore, and nothing we like out of Bayone( we do not fly anymore ), and live in Pennsylvania. BUT all in all, Royal Caribbean is a great experience, just not like it used to be, BUT then WHAT IS?

Independence of the Seas in July was my very first trip. I am spoiled for life now! Everything was very nice, the ship was so clean, staff couldn't have been better. Lot's of activities on board, and excursions were nice. The only thing I did not like was my drink package. I got the "Coke" package, and it just wasn't what I needed. That was my fault, but I did not get my money's worth on that. I would have enjoyed a less expensive "water" package, and that would have been great. I hope to make another trip sometime in the future!

I have only sailed with RC. But I always query other passengers that have sailed other cruise lines. They all say RC food is the best and compares favorable with every other line. I have never had a bad cruise. the staff has always been helpful, friendly and attentive. There is always something to do - or places to do nothing if that is your pleasure. I have sailed on several different ships, including the Oasis which I thought might be overwhelming. It was AWESOME! Can't wait to sail her again.

I only started cruising in 2011 & now are a cruise junkie. I have been on 6 cruises & only cruised on Royal Caribbean. I love RCL. I can drive to multiple ports to board, the food is great, the service wonderful, the excursions fun, etc. Is RCL perfect? No, all the cruise lines have issues that come up. Cruising & choosing who you cruise on is a personal choice. I will continue to cruise on RCL through the coming years.

Its been a couple of years since we took our first cruise with Royal Caribbean and both my wife and I loved it. We had a very nice cabin and it was located in a very central location. I took my first cruise 6 years ago, to Alaska. It was so much fun. The crew was always bent over backwards to do whatever they could for me. They truly treated me like royalty. There were so many things to do on the ship. I chose to do only those that didn't cost extra and I never did get to them all. The food was great, the excursions fun, and Karoke, on our last night, I will never forget.

My wife and I have been on many Royal Caribbean cruises and have enjoyed all of them. The only thing that we don't like is the Internet charges for slow speeds. The ships have all been very nice and we prefer the smaller ships in the 1800 to 2200 range. The big ships are beautiful but they are very crowded on sea days. We have always met great people on our Royal cruises. Food has been good to very good, service has been very good to excellent. Entertainment has varied but most has been good.

We've cruised +10 times with RC...and have been very pleased. The newer ships are awesome but some of my favorite memories have been on the smaller ships. Any issues we've ever had were addressed immediately (unlike issues we've had on another cruise line. We recently taken advantage of specials we took advantage of just to see how changes might have been made and it only made us love RC even more. We love RC!!!

It was a excellent and wonderful cruise. We had a family reunion on the cruise. It was great to see the family and to meet new members. Your crew members made us all feel so important and so special. When it comes time to cruise again we will use Royal Caribbean Liners. The other one we were on just dont match up to this liner. It was well worth the great price we were quoted. The service and food were excellent.. The shows were astonishing and amazing all at the same time. So much to do in little time. One week isnt enough to do everything.

I really enjoy Royal Caribbean cruises. However, in the wintertime I wish the ships would offer 7-8 day cruises to the e-w-s Caribbean from the port of NJ. Many do not either like to fly or can't afford the extra expenses to fly on top of the cruises. I miss the smaller ships as you get to see the same people more often and develop friendships faster. The staff , amenities, shows, service and overall cruise cannot be beat by other cruise lines. With Royal, they make you feel like royalty!!

We just completed our fourth cruise with Royal Caribbean. There is always room for a little improvement but we had a great time and received very good service. We heave booked our next cruise for next September. For the money, RCL provides a very good value. We especially like the quality and variety of on board entertainment. If I want to sit in the front row at one of the production shows, I can and don't have to pay a cent extra to do so. We will continue to cruise with Royal Caribbean.

I LOVE, LOVE Royal Caribbean! After 5 cruises on several different ships, it hurts my heart that they double their prices at Christmas, forcing me to travel different, but good, alternative cruise line. In my heart, Royal Caribbean is the absolute best!

Have been on two cruises:: a 3 night and just completed a 7 night. Stateroom attendant was efficient and professional. Never had a problem. Food was excellent in dining room and staff attended to every request with a smile. Scheduled for another cruise in August "16.

Royal Caribbean was the first ever cruise l took...and it hooked me. The ship Enchantment of the Seas was to me floating elegance. Food was out of the world. I would like more options for itineraries and would like to see pricing be a little more affordable.

sailed for 1st time with Liberty of Seas in Oct 15 to Bermuda. an absolutely awesome experience. ship was clean and beautiful. cant say anything bad about crew or amenities aboard the ship. shows were spectacular. returning in 2017 on the Anthem. A+ for RC.

I have been on 3 cruises with Royal Caribbean. I have had a great time on on 2 of them and a ok to good time on the last and 3rd trip. If you want a good relaxing cruise were they treat you like royalty, then get a outside suite with a balcony and have a great time. If you want a party bout then this cruise like is not for you.

We've traveled with them for 4 cruises and have enjoyed all of the ships. The crew is amazing - so friendly and helpful. Food is ok! Only ship we weren't crazy about was the Quantum - reminded me of a mall - not a "pretty" ship at all and hated changing dining room each night.

We had a great time on our recent cruise. I've only been on RCI for my two cruises and if those trips were any indication there's no way I'm going on another cruise line. As a matter of fact I'm breaking ranks and we're going next year instead of waiting for another year....

Had a very enjoyable cruise on Independence of the Seas! We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. We did the Margarita ville catamaran cruise and snorkel in Jamaica. This is a MUST for anyone who goes to Jamaica. We were just a little disappointed about the entertainment but overall we have a really great time on our 7 day adventure.

Ours was a party cruise, only lasted three days. We stopped in Nassau and the private island. Had lunch on the island, got sick (not the only one) and spent the rest of the time on the bed and with my head in the toilet. The ship was lovely.

I have been on one curise, and it was good as far as the ship was concerned, it was in November and we were caught in the last tropical storm of the season. But the hardest part was my husband was not with me. It would have been better with him there too.

I have sailed with Royal Caribbean 3 times & each time, my family & I enjoyed ourselves. The rooms were very well maintained, the waiting staff was phenomomal & the food was awesome. There is so much to do between islands onboard & I don't think I want to sail with anyone else ever!

My problem is the amount of gratuity assessed each passenger. The difference are not large enough. An interior cabin is $13 and the largest suite is only $16. Not hardly fair. Who do you think gets most of the attention????

will be on Majesty in 13 Days. Have 13 Cruises with RC. 2 out of 3 Vision were superb, Allure is the greatest Cruise Ship in the world. Brilliance is a beautiful Vessel. Service has gone downhill latley though. Mariner was our first experience. I have sailed almost every Class.
