US Airways is considered a major airline and belongs to the American Airlines Group. According to their fact sheet, they have nearly 193 destinations, over 300 destinations when all the American Airlines Group's destinations are included together.

They have over 343 mainline jet aircraft and 278 regional jets and turbo-prop aircraft for shuttling customers between major airports. In February 2013, American Airlines and US Airways began their merger plans. This merger created the largest airline in the world. The companies offer reciprocal frequent flyer miles. The management is based out of Arizona, but the merged company will be totally anchored in Fort Worth, Texas once the merger is finalized.

The Good

  • Amenities
  • Rewards program
  • On-time percentage
US Airways has some good comfortable jets for their passengers. Their Airbus planes have on-demand TV with access for each seat. There is Wi-Fi on all major flights through GoGo. For the economy class passenger, the seat pitch ranges from 30-33 inches (the standard average in the industry was about 31 inches for seat pitch). Seat width is about 17-18 inches, making the seats comfortable for customers. The Dividend Miles program is pretty straightforward and easy to understand. Once a client accumulates a certain number of miles, they are going to be able to get a flight with a small upgrade fee. With 5,000 miles and a fee of $25, you can take a trip for 500 miles or less. This is a pretty good and transparent rewards system for clients.  US Airways rewards work with American Airlines. The food was a bit on the pricier side, but there are some generally great dishes available. We called in and were told about the Chicken Quinoa Salad, which is $8.99. Not only do they provide great meals from their menu, they also special meals.  To get special meals with dietary needs, you can call a toll-free number 24 hours before your flight to get a special meal. According to Flightstats.com, US Airways is on-time roughly 82% of the time.

The Bad

  • Travel insurance
  • Food
  • Baggage
Another concern is their price that we were quoted through Allianz for travel insurance. We had a rate that was higher than some of the other airlines in the industry, even though we quoted the same dates and ticket price. Another airline was cheaper than US Airways in terms of travel service, even though they both use the same provider, Allianz. The food can be a bit on the expensive side. Some other airlines, for its customers, includes complimentary meals on flights that are longer than six hours. We had questions about this on our phone-in and told that it was the standard in the industry. Also, we couldn't get information on the baggage liability with US Airways. US Airways doesn't offer any information on adding to the $3400 maximum per ticketed passenger, whereas Delta and other carriers let you pay a small fee to increase their liability.

The Bottom Line

Overall, we  recommend flying with US Airways. From the customer complaints and reviews, it seems as if they have gone down a service level since they merged with American Airlines. We also feel like other "smaller" major carriers take a little bit more care with their customer care. In the end, it's best to go with an airline with a good reputation. The merger with American Airlines provides US Airways with a ton of resources to better serve their customers.

US Airways (American Airlines) has now wasted 2 days of our vacation! They have bad customer service and their staff SUCKS. Their solution for our situation is to go out and buy one outfit a day per person and only purchase the necessary essentials. This does not guarantee that we will get reimbursed for anything we have had to purchase. Even though they have admitted that they are at fault for losing our luggage, we are the ones suffering and our vacation has been ruined! We will have to submit an itemized claim for that and that can take anywhere from six months to a year. What has happened to accountability for YOUR mistake? Yes! Your mistake not mine. I did what I was supposed to in getting my bags to you on time before the flight. What has happened to customer service and the way you should treat your customers? I am not the one who was stupid enough to lose someone's luggage! We were told by US Airways to stop calling about our luggage. They will contact us once they locate our luggage. I was told by the agent that we are not the only one that has had their luggage lost on that flight. Good to know! I feel so much better now!! Thank you to the idiots of US AIRWAYS!

My daughter ID documents were not given back by the ground staff at MIA AIRPORT …made a police report soon after.WROTE MANY LETTERS,FAXES,CALLS AND EMAILS which i have them to prove all this. They prolonged this for months and months. While my poor daughter had problem to enter the US based on this stolen ID..Plus cost hundred of dollars to replace and still being process, as the US HOMELAND takes months, money and more documents to give bonafide American residents' ease to enter!! My daughter is still waiting plus I have sent all the cost, documents to substantiate all this to AA.COM..THIS HAS LEFT US VERY BITTER TOWARD THE AIRLINE for dragging their feet and didn't give us an ounce of compensation for the lost caused by their staff in MIA AIRPORT.

I flew USAirways from CRW to PHX in May. The flight was supposed to go through CLT with a 39-minute layover. After the inbound flight arrived more than 45 minutes late to CRW, there was no way we would make the connection. The gate agent wanted to send us to CLT and then try to get the next flight to PHX or stay overnight in CLT. Instead, we asked to spend the night in CRW and leave early the next day through DCA. Since the delay of the inbound aircraft was due to a maintenance issue (the plane needed new tires!), the airline put us up in a hotel for the night. We made it home the next day without incident. Moral of the story, check your tires before taking the plane out for the day!!!!

This is the worst of the worst. i traveled with my family on July 15 to Cancun with connection jfk-charlotte-Cancun.. First we had to wait hours in JFK, then in Charlotte,NC we had a flight at 1.25. We boarded to stayed in the plane for more than 1 and haft hr. I was dying in the plane until i decided to get out when the pilot announced that they didn't know when the plane will starts moving and if anyone wanted to get out for a moment they cant do this. I WENT OUT for like 10 minutes, other people too. A lady tried to get inside and one of the crew slams the door in the lady nose. Very unprofessional to treat a costumer. The lady recorded. Then after half a hr waiting a guy came and said the flight is cancelled due to mechanic problem. Come on!!! who they will don't know that the plane had problem before?. Then they offered to book another flight and they were giving the options with 3 connections for the next day when they knew they had a flight at 6.05. I saw a group of girls very upset bc they only offered 2 seats and they were a group of 4. they pointed they don't have more space. For my surprised when the plane closed the door we counted more than 20 available seats. I have pictures, just in case. I missed my first daughter wedding. My suitcase arrived the next day ruining my daughter wedding . I couldn't believe that this could happen to me. I dont think I want to travel. I got frustrated with my experience with Us Airways. The worst of the worst. They will never can give me back what i lost , my little baby wedding. Very sad.

I purchased two first class tickets $7000, dollars to Maui, Hawaii, This was my third trip to Maui, but the first time on US Airways to Hawaii, it was totally horrible starting with flight. There was only to flights daily from the east coast, and if you do not make your connection in Arizona, you are cooked. Our flight was delayed because of mechanical issues; I explained that we had reservation at the Four Seasons in Maui. After persuading the US Airways representative check other airlines to make our connection, they were lazy about looking for options finally they came up with coach flight to LA, San Francisco, and Texas all had a layover for 24 hours and we could only fly coach. Forty-five minutes later, we were on a US airway flight to Phoenix, but we would still miss our connecting flight to Maui and have to spend the night in Arizona. Next day we boarded an aircraft that was out of the late 1970'S- we were place in bulk- head seating which were not our original assigned seats, which I had paid for on the original ticket. The first class seats were crap and miserable. We finally arrived in Maui, but had to settle our missed reservation date. Therefore, we settled in to enjoying Maui. Our return was flight was more of the same, the exact old crappy aircraft for 8 hours from Mau to Arizona, the seat in front of me was broken, so when passenger in front of me put his seat in a decline it actually nearly collapsed in my lap and this is in first class. For the remainder of the flight I was miserable there was not seats available another full flight. In addition, the attendants did not care so at 38 thousand feet there nothing to do. In the morning, they offer a mini box of cereal with a plastic bowl and spoon. When I arrived home, I complained to US Airway corporate office, they offer me a $100 voucher for a $7000 dollars first class tickets. I informed US Airways that they would even attempt to compensate me with $100 voucher for a horrible trip on their airline. Therefore, I contacted the president of US Airway and outlined my concerns regarding his airline and requested a full refund or two new first class tickets back to Maui, I received an email offering $200 dollars per ticket and apology. I told the president that $400 voucher would not get me on any first flight to Maui on any airlines. I refuse to accept their apology or vouchers; I stopped flying US Airway 2 and half years ago and converted my points America Airlines. I now fly international airlines whenever possible and limit my domestic flying to Delta Airlines and American Airlines. Service and quality are a must for my money.

Terrible. The last two times I flew with them: First was a trip to Jacksonville, NC. There is only one gate in Jacksonville and US is pretty much the only game in town. They took off 17 minutes early and stranded me 1500 miles from home! the agent got me on United to Charlotte but I was forced to sleep on the airport floor. I was put on a flight back to Kansas City through Chicago and arrived home about 20 hours after I should have. Second trip was a non-stop from KC to Phoenix. They put me on an old 737-300 that was about to retire, so they hadn't replaced the interior in what seemed forever. The seat cushion was completely worn out. My backside was actually on the underlying metal and I had back ache by the time I arrived in PHX 2.5 hours later. I'm not a large person, either, 5'10" and 175 pounds. I will NEVER fly on US Airways again.

The crew on my international flight was very good, the ground personnel in Philadelphia is another story, they were terrible, unfriendly and not helpful. My connecting flight from Philadelphia to Nashville on 23 June 2015 was cancelled, I was very tired coming off the plane from the long flight out of Germany and the Lady at the counter was rude when I ask her to please get me a direct flight to Nashville, she booked me to Dallas and than on to Nashville. It would been the next day in the evening when I got home to Nashville. I was very tired. She made no effort to even look to get me on a earlier flight directly to Nashville. No explanation why my flight was cancelled. Handed me a hotel voucher and told me to get going. Later I found out my flight was cancelled because of to many planes in the air, what ??? What excuse is that?? Needless to say my husband booked me a red eye thru Southwest, so I was able to get home by 06:30 AM in the morning. Yeah, Southwest, they are great. I had to pay again for another ticket , thanks to you US Air, never fly you again, you are not dependable especially when customers come from a international flight , we want to get home, we been awake forever and don't want to stand in line after line to re-book and worry how to get back home. My suitcase of course was on the flight to Dallas and didn't make it to Nashville until late the next day. We had to drive from Clarksville back Nashville, on Thursday the 25th, to get the suitcase, because US Air said I didn't fly with US Air to Dallas so we will not deliver it. You cancelled my initial connecting flight ,It was not me that did this, you changed my connecting flight, I was not going to fly all over the US to get home, US Air should at least delivered my luggage. If I can avoid flying you again I will and I will let all my relatives and friend know how bad your ground personnel is in Philadelphia, I assume they are like that in every airport you are located. I was not impressed at all with your customer service and the non existing help they gave me.

The most horrible experience in life with an airline. Not once but twice. Extremely rude staff, ticketing, TSA, and boarding. I would love to know, why would or could someone close the boarding doors in somebody face with three children, a wife, husband and grandmother traveling?! Then have us on a seven hour layover do to staffing errors?! Not only misplace our luggage with our children's birth certificate inside the luggage, plus the luggage was a carrying on as well...

Our US Airways/American flights from SLO to Phoenix to Charlotte to Cleveland were stressful and I felt entirely disrespected. We had to RUN through terminals to barely make our flights. They knew it from the start and checked our carry on bags for free so we could sprint to our connecting flights. The feeling of being in stuck in row 30 of the cabin and knowing we had 5 minutes to departure 10 gates away was just awful. They sold our seats and then had to dump those customers. The gentleman who arranged our flights said we had plenty of time.

Had 5am flight GNV-BOS for cruise. Showed up at airport at 330am to find flight cancelled. 'Didn't you get message on your phone at 1:30am?' Uh, no . To USAir's credit they did send me by car to JAX to get a Delta flight- just about about 4 hours late.

They stunk when they were America West; after they merged and became U.S. Airways, they continued to stink. Absolutely THE worst customer service I've ever encountered - under both names. Thank God other airlines fly to the same cities as U.S. Airways; they will never again see one cent more of my money.

Why all of a sudden charge for a seat? Whats going on here? There is no good customer service at all its like you are in a local metro service during rush hour service.
